With the growing concern for people's privacy it becomes increasingly
more and more difficult to know if our parishioners are sick, in the hospital or even in Hospice care. If you know of someone or if you would
like for us to visit someone, please contact Deacon Mark Sholander at
(678) 466-1708 or [email protected].
If you would like to add someone to the Sick List in the Bulletin, contact the Par ish
office at (770) 487-7672. The name will be published in the bulletin for 6 weeks. You
may call at anytime and have the name removed. Ongoing illnesses and special intentions
may be placed in the Prayer Intention book located in the back of the church.
Healing Masses
Tuesday, December 13, 6:30pm
and Friday, December 16, 12pm.
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be available during this
Mass for every baptized Catholic over the age of reason. Prayer teams
will also be available immediately after Mass to pray with people for healing and other
needs.
Anointing of the sick primarily is for spiritual healing. Physical healing might occur, but
it is not the main purpose of the sacrament. Certainly the sacrament should not be expected to automatically cure the sick person. Such an expectation tends toward superstition (cf. CC2111). Baptized children below the age of reason cannot commit personal sin
and so do not need anointing of the sick if they are in danger of death. Rather, when in
danger of death, such children can be given confirmation, for spiritual strengthening and
more fully to initiate them into the Christian religion.

Thoughts From this Sunday’s Readings by Fr. John
Previous reflections can be found on his blog at
FrJohnMurphy.blogspot.com
The third Sunday of Advent is traditionally called Gaudete Sunday.
Gaudete is a Latin word that means “ rejoice.” Our entrance antiphon today calls us to “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say,
rejoice! The Lord is near.” And tomorrow is the feast of Our Lady
of Guadalupe, the Patroness of the Americas. Many people in
North, South and Central America who are devoted to the Virgin of
Guadalupe will celebrate this wonderful feast. In Mexico the Feast
of Our Lady of Guadalupe is a national holiday. Right now millions of people are surrounding the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City, some having traveled on foot for days to get
there, singing, dancing, praying and paying homage to their spiritual mother.
In today’s gospel, Matthew 11:2-11, Jesus assures John the Baptist
and his disciples that he is “the one” and that John’s role as the
messenger sent to prepare the way of the Lord has been fulfilled.
Just as John the Baptist was the messenger of repentance and hope
to the children of Israel, so too was Our Lady of Guadalupe a messenger of hope and redemption to the indigenous people of the
Americas. She played a remarkable role in the evangelization of
the New World.
The role of messenger did not end with John the Baptist or with
our Lady of Guadalupe. Over the centuries countless messengers
have gone out to proclaim the good news of the kingdom. As baptized Christians and citizens of the kingdom of heaven, each one of
us is called to prepare the way of the Lord in our own hearts and
minds and in the hearts and minds of everyone we encounter. This
is an important responsibility and one we should take very seriously. After all, Jesus told the disciples of John the Baptist, his own
disciples and he tells us that, “the least in the kingdom of heaven is
greater than” John the Baptist.
And so on this Third Sunday of Advent, Gaudete Sunday, we
rejoice and thank God for the gift of his Son, Jesus the Christ who
came into our world to save us. “Rejoice in the Lord always; again
I say, rejoice! The Lord is near.”
God of peace,
Whose word is
good news for the oppressed,
healing for the brokenhearted,
and freedom for all who are held bound;
gladden our hearts
and fashion the earth into a garden of righteousness and praise.
Sanctify us in spirit, soul and body,
so that we may generously prepare the way
for your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ,
who was, who is and who is to come,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever.
AMEN

aguacero es del todo insuficiente, pero la sucesión de lluvias logra el milagro de la cosecha. Saber valorar las gotas humildes y las lluvias breves;
mism.
¿Eres Tú o Esperamos a Otro?

A study from FORMED.ORG
Understanding the true meaning of marriage is one thing, living it out is another. Beloved: Living Marriage examines the day-to-day
challenges of being united as husband and wife, while maintaining individuality. With the hallmark beauty and insight of the Symbolon
series, Beloved shows how to put faith at the center of your marriage. Learning to effectively communicate, turn conflict into understanding, avoid the pitfalls that wreck relationships, and understand sex in the context of authentic love are among the topics presented for helping relationships to thrive. Six sessions from trusted experts work for both marriage preparation and marriage enrichment
opportunities. To register contact: Terri Thomas 678-466-1739 or [email protected].

The Third Sunday of Advent is also known
as Gaudete Sunday.
Gaudete is Latin for ‘rejoice.’
The color is pink, and our Entrance
Antiphon proclaims:
Rejoice in the Lord always;
again I say, rejoice!
It signifies a small break in the penitential
character of the Season and reminds us
that the coming of the Lord is near.
Childcare is available at all RCIA sessions
