Please join us in devo on to Our Blessed Mother. Thank you, Cathy Ruffo Aguirre and Officers and Members of the Altar & Rosary Society TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Imagine the frustra on of bishops who work strenuously over their ad limina reports, direc ng study commi ees, assembling data, honing the texts, traveling to Rome “to the threshold,” only to have it all collapse into a fi eenminute group mee ng with the pope. More than a few have grumbled at the weight of this “treasure” from our tradi on, yet from the pope’s vantage point, they are essen al to his ministry. Pope John Paul II recalled his own experience as the Bishop of Kraków, visi ng with Pope Paul VI in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The memory of those individual visits caused him to strengthen the format, assuring each of the world’s 2,744 bishops a privileged fi een private minutes with the pope every five years. If you wonder what the pope does all day, the thought of dealing with five hundred bishops a year and reading their detailed reports on diocesan life should help fill up the calendar. Pope John Paul II used to say that he approached each individual mee ng with the personal goal of learning something new about the Church, and his lively interest made the visits immensely worthwhile. The content of the private mee ngs remains under a privilege of secrecy, or as Cardinal Theodore McCarrick once said, “You’re only supposed to quote the pope if he tells a joke.” —Rev. James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. To increase our par cipa on of Lay Ministers, we encourage you to join any of these ministries. For informa on, contact Barbara Bertani at (210) 493-6921 If you would like to donate a flower arrangement to decorate our church for each week for masses in honor of a loved one please call Rose Marie Pagonis at 210-344-4226 or 210-289-9887. The cost of these arrangements are $30 for two small vases of flowers. Their name and who requested them will be acknowledged in the Sunday bulle n. The check should be made payable to Flowers by Grace and given to Rose Marie. Thank you for your help in remembering your loved one and making our church look beau ful.
