Grand Knights Corner
Brother Knights,
Boy was the month of September busy. We started the month with our first 1st Degree Exemplification and
added three new brother knights to the ranks of Knights of Columbus. There was one brother knight added to
our neighboring parish up north, Good Shepherd, and two brother knights to our council #12942.
Please help me in welcoming these two new brothers, Derek McNeeley and Kevin Garrett. Both these gentlemen will make a welcome addition to our ranks here at St. Brendan's. I believe we have added four brother
knights to our council thus far this year. The two new knights mentioned and two brother knights who have
reinstated their membership.
Good work to our recruitment team headed by Doug Hoffman, Worthy Chancellor of our council #12942.
Then we moved quickly into the grand opening of "Cafe 107". We need to give a GREAT HAND of applause
to Quinten Skinner and Dick Flaig for all the great work and the many hours they have put into making this a
GRAND grand opening. And I want to take this opportunity to thank the 20 brother knights who came by Saturday to put up the tent and grills and worked a LONG day on Sunday from 6 am to 3 pm cooking an awesome breakfast and lunch. We grossed $1,492 which is the year that Columbus founded North America and
are the numbers that make up our council number, council #12942 (thank you Dick Flaig who found the ironic
humor in the numbers).
But wait if that wasn't enough; we caught our breath and again manned the big tent and served breakfast and
lunch at the Ministry Fair for our St. Brendan's Parish. Hats off again to handful of brother knights who so
selfishly gave of their time to feed the many parishioners that attended this year's Ministry Fair.
What was more amazing is that these two group of brothers were almost the same men. We have 20 to 40
dedicated Brother Knights that always make sure that our council shines at the many events and projects we
sponsor at St. Brendan's Catholic Church.
Oh, did I forget to tell you that we also had our monthly family social that last Friday of the month. This event
was attended by approximately 70 and a good time was had by all. Three doors prizes were given out that
night and one of our newest knights, Derek McNeeley, went home with a brand new quesadilla maker (do you
think he will wrap it up for a wedding gift for his new bride-to-be).
WOW, was that not a month full of excitement!
I do what to ask for one more action item and this one can extend for the many months left in our Columbian
Year 2014/2015. Help and join the ranks of the hard workers who made all the activities this month a success. It only takes an hour of your time in most cases to make a huge effect. One of our Brother Knight's
mother said to him growing up that "Many hands make little Work". Come join us at the various events that
are sponsored for your council. Each month we will be partnering with our parish to provide an opportunity
for fellowship and evangelization through "Cafe 107".

P.S. I almost forget - Please be asking your fellow Catholic friends if they would like to become a brother
knight! In November we will be hosting a recruitment weekend after all the Mass. This would be a great time
to give an hour and gain additional members for our council. Doug Hoffman can provide you with information.
Our next council meeting will be Monday, October 13th. Refreshments start at 6:30 pm with the business
meeting beginning promptly at 7:30 pm.

La Esquina del Gran Caballero
Hermanos Caballeros,
Este mes de Septiembre fué bastante ocupado. Empezamos el mes con un Primer Grado y añadimos nuevos hermanos Caballeros a la Orden de los Caballeros de Colón. Añadimos otro hermano de la parroquia de
Good Shepherd, y dos hermanos de nuestro Consejo #12942.
Por favor ayúdenme a recibir estos nuevos hermanos, Derek McNeeley y Kevin Garret. Ambos están bienvenidos a ser parte de nuestros oficiales aquí en San Brendan. Hasta ahora hemos añadido 4 nuevos hermanos a nuestro Consejo, los dos nuevos mencionados antes y dos que han sido reinstalados.
Nuestro equipo de reclutadores comandado por Doug Hoffman y nuestro Canciller han realizado un gran trabajo.
Después pasamos a la realización de “Café 107”. Tenemos que darle un GRAN APLAUSO a Quentin Skinner y a Dick Flaig por el gran trabajo que han hecho y las muchas horas dedicadas a esta GRAN apertura.
También quiero aprovechar la oportunidad para agradecer a los 20 hermanos Caballeros quienes vinieron el
Sábado a armar la carpa y los asadores, y después trabajaron un LARGO dia el Domingo desde las 6:00am
hasta las 3:00pm cocinando un gran desayuno y almuerzo. Recolectamos $1,492.00 que es el año cuando
Cristobal Colón descubrió América y son los números que forman el número de nuestro Consejo #12942
(gracias a Dick Flaig quién descubrió estas coincidencias).
Después, como si eso no fuera suficiente, después de descansar armamos nuestra carpa y servimos desayuno durante el Carnaval de Ministerios de San Brendan nuestra parroquia. Nos quitamos el sombrero
ante los muchos hermanos que desinteresadamente donaron su tiempo para alimentar y atender el Carnaval
de Ministerios este año.
Lo más extraordinario es que estos dos grupos de hombres fueron los mismos hermanos sirviendo. Tenemos de 20 a 40 hermanos Caballeros dedicados a servir y procurando que nuestro Consejo siempre brille en
los muchos eventos y proyectos que patrocinamos en la Iglesia de San Brendan.
Me olvidaba de mencionar nuestra reunión social mensual del último Viernes de cada mes. Aproximadamente 70 personas vinieron y todos pasamos un gran rato. Se rifaron 3 premios sorpresa y uno de ellos se lo
ganó nuestro nuevo miembro, Derek McNeeley, quién se fué a casa con una nueva máquina de hacer
quesadillas ( a lo mejor la empaca como regalo de bodas para su nueva prometida).
WOW, ese fué un mes con mucha actividad!
Tengo que pedirles ayuda por lo que resta del Año Colombino 2014/2015. Ayudemos y vinculémonos al
grupo de hermanos que trabajan bién duro para que nuestras actividades sean siempre exitosas. Tan solo
toma una hora de su tiempo en la mayoría de los casos para lograr un gran resultado. La madre de uno de
nuestros Hermanos Caballeros le dijo cuando estaba creciendo que “Muchas manos hacen poco trabajo”.
Vengan y únanse a nosotros en las muchas actividades que nuestro Consejo patrocina. Cada mes estaremos ayudando nuestra parroquia facilitando la oportunidad de compartir con amistades y evangelizar por
medio del “Café 107”.

P.S. Casi me olvido. Por favor pregúntele a sus amigos Católicos si quieren convertirse en Hermanos Caballeros de Colón! Haremos una campaña para promover la membresía durante un fin de semana en el mes de
Noviembre después de todas las misas. Esta será una gran oportunidad para donar una hora y ganar nuevos
miembros para nuestro Consejo. Pregúntenle a Doug Hoffman por información.
Nuestra próxima reunión será el Lunes 13 de Octubre. Refrescos serán servidos a las 6:30pm y la reunion

Message from our State Deputy
The 2014/2015 Fraternal Year is starting and we are off to a very good start. I want to thank all
Councils for their hard work, and I cannot thank you enough for the total support you have given me
and State Council Office. This coming year will be greater than last because we must leave all our
jobs better than we found them and with your support success is there for the taking.
The 132 Supreme Convention was held in Orlando this month and the Georgia State Council was
well represented. Several members from the Archdiocese and the Diocese of Savannah attended
the Convention and we were all seated as a delegation during the Supreme States Dinner.
Georgia was honored, thanks to all of you, to receive The Supreme Knights Circle of Honor Award.
Georgia also attained 19 Star Council Awards, 3 Double Star Awards and 3 Triple Star Awards.
These are outstanding accomplishments by the Councils and their District Deputies!
We are in the business of doing the will of God in every way possible to support those who are in
need; we are mandated to provide service to all following the footsteps of Fr. McGivney who had a
vision; and that vision has grown to more than 1.8 Million Catholic Men. What an outstanding
achievement that began with only eleven men at St. Mary’s Church in New Haven. We will continue
the dream following the path that has been laid out for us.

Derek McNelley and Kevin Garrett celebrated their First Degree on September 8th, at Saint
Brendan's Council and then proceeded on to their Second Degree on September 24th, at Saint Benedicts. Please join me in congratulating them on starting their journey to in the Knights of Columbus.
Recruiting New Knights
I would like us to rekindle The 24 hour Knight Recruitment strategy.
As a man we face numerous commitments on our time. From our duty to family or obligation to work
there are constant calls on our time. How many times have your council’s recruiters heard the reply:
“I don’t have much time to give to the Knights, so why should I join?” It’s a common concern among
many prospects that they just don’t have the time to be a part of the Knights of Columbus.
Imagine if you were able to tell a man that if he could just give 24 hours a year to the Knights of Columbus he could make a positive difference in his community and church. Even with this minimal
commitment he can be an important part of a council and reap the benefits of what membership in
the Knights of Columbus has to offer him and his family. When talking to a prospect about joining
our Order, try breaking down the time commitment.
When you present the time commitment of joining the Knights of Columbus to a man is this way, it
doesn’t seem very intimidating at all. Once a man becomes a member and sees how rewarding being a part of the Knights of Columbus is, he’ll want to dedicate more of his time to the Order.
There are 8,760 hours in a year. By giving the Knights of Columbus 24 of those hours (less than 0.3
percent), a man can be a better Catholic, a better father, a better husband and a better person.
Think of the difference the Knights of Columbus can make in our communities if these men join us.
We only have to let each qualified prospect know that he has the time to join and make a difference
in his community and the Church in just 24 hours. I would like each one of you to provide me a prospect list of men in the parish who would be good candidates for membership. I would be happy to
encourage them to take part in one of the upcoming service or social offerings.
UPCOMING EXEMPLIFICATIONS
FIRST DEGREE EXEMPLIFICATION
The next First Degree will be held on October 15th, at Knights of Columbus Council 660, Buckhead. Our next First Degree within our district will be held in November at Saint Benedict’s Council (Date & Time to be determined) Please get all prospective
names to Douglas Hoffman as soon as possible. ([email protected]).
SECOND DEGREE EXEMPLIFICATION
The next Second Degree will be held on October 15th, at Knights of Columbus Council 660 Buckhead. Our next Second Degree within our district will be held on November 25th, at Saint Benedict’s Council. Please contact

THIRD DEGREE EXEMPLIFICATION
St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Kennesaw, GA October 11th 2014. Please contact Douglas Hoffman ([email protected]) if interested.

November 8th 2014 – Location to be announced at a later date. A tux is the dress code for the
Fourth Degree Exemplification. All registration paperwork and money must be submitted on

La competencia del Estado para los ganadores del torneo de futbol soccer será en Macon, GA. el 16 de
Noviembre en el Cavalier Field, más detalles serán enviados a los ganadores.
Derek McNelley y Kevin Garret recibieron el Primer Grado el 8 de Septiembre en el Consejo de San Brendan
y después recibieron el Segundo Grado el 24 de Septiembre en San Benedict. Felicitaciones al empezar su

Reclutando nuevos Caballeros
Quiero que recordemos la estrategia del Reclutamiento del Caballero de las 24 horas.
Como hombres siempre encaramos muchos compromisos. Entre nuestros compromisos de familia y nuestras obligaciones de trabajo recibimos llamadas constantemente. Cuantas ocasiones los reclutadores de
nuestro Consejo han escuchado: “No tengo mucho tiempo que ofrecerle a los Caballeros, para qué meterme?” Es una preocupación común entre los candidatos, que no tienen tiempo para ser miembros de los
Caballeros de Colón.
Imagínese si usted puede decirle a un hombre que si el le da, tan solo 24 horas al año a los Caballeros de
Colón, el podrá hacer una diferencia positiva en su comunidad y su Iglesia. Incluso con este pequeño compromiso el puede ser una parte importante del Consejo y beneficiarse de los beneficios que su membresía en
los Caballeros de Colón tiene para el y su familia. Cuando hablen con un candidato, traten de explicarle bién
como sería el compromiso de tiempo.
Cuando usted le presente a alguien el compromiso del tiempo para entrar a los Caballeros de Colón de esta
manera, no se sentirán tan asustados. Una vez que esa persona se convierte en miembro y ve los beneficios
siendo parte de los Caballeros de Colón, el querrá dedicarle más tiempo a la Orden.
Hay 8,760 horas en el año, dándole 24 de esas horas a los Cabaleros de Colón(menos del 0.3%), un hombre
puede ser un mejor Católico, un mejor padre, un mejor esposo y una mejor persona. Piense en la diferencia

INICIACIÓN DE PRIMER GRADO
La próxima iniciación de Primer Grado será el 15 de Octubre, en el Consejo #660 de los Caballeros de Colón
en Buckhead. La próxima iniciación de Primer Grado en nuestro Distrito será en Noviembre en el Consejo de
San Benedict(informaremos la fecha y la hora). Por favor de entregar los nombres de los candidatos a Douglas Hoffman tan pronto como sea posible. ([email protected])
INICIACIÓN DE SEGUNDO GRADO
La próxima iniciación de Segundo Grado será el 15 de Octubre, EN EL Consejo
#660 de los Caballeros de Colón en Buckhead. La próxima iniciación de Segundo
Grado en nuestro Distrito será el 25 de Noviembre en el Consejo de San Benedict.

A Little Humor
Golf Outings
The Knights and Friends golf outings are scheduled for either the last Monday or
Tuesday of the month.
Our monthly events for 2014 will begin in March and end after the October
“Championship”. All levels of ability/experience are welcome to participate.
Knights/Family/Friends are invited with pairings done to facilitate fellowship. Our
objective is to have fun and it is not a competitive event.
If you wish to join us on either a regular or occasional basis please email Curtis
Weeks ([email protected]) to be added to the email notification.
A variety of courses are played throughout the local area. An email notification
will be sent to the golf distribution list two weeks prior to the scheduled date. Please join us to witness some of
the most interesting golfers in Atlanta.
Excursiones de Golf
Los Caballeros y Amigos excursiones de golf están programadas para el último lunes o martes de
cada mes.
Nuestros eventos mensuales para el año 2014 comenzará en marzo y octubre final después de que

Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge
On Sunday September 21, 2014, St. Brendan Knights of Columbus Council
12942 held our annual soccer shootout on St. Brendan's parish grounds. A total
of nine boys and girls competed. This was the first year that winners of the 9-yr
old group were eligible to move on.
Congratulations to the Council Winners...

9 yr. old girls - Ashley Hernández
13 yr. old girls - Kate Hazelwood
Since no other council in District 16 held a soccer shootout this year, St. Brendan's Council will
be sending all five council winners to represent District 16 in the State competition.

Torneo de Football Soccer de los Caballeros de Colón
El pasado Domingo 21 de Septiembre, 2014, el Consejo de los Caballeros de
Colón #12942 de San Brendan, realizó el torneo de futbol soccer en los terrenos
de San Brendan. Nueve niños y niñas compitieron. Este fué el primer año en el
que lo ganadores del grupo de 9 años de edad son elegibles para la segunda
ronda.
Felicitaciones a los ganadores:

Niños de 12 años – Michael Toman
Niñas de 9 años – Ashley Hernández

Ningún otro Consejo del Distrito #16 tuvo competencia este año, y por esa razón, el Consejo de
San Brendan mandará sus 5 ganadores a representar el Distrito #16 en la competencia del Estado.

YMCA Soccer Program
We agreed to sponsor two soccer teams in the YMCA soccer program. This Fall league has one St.
Brendan's team, we hope to have two in the Spring season.
Dusty Gunn, one of our brothers, is coaching the 10U girls team. They are 3-0 and just won their last
game this last Saturday, 9-0. He really has accomplished a great deal with the girls in the last few
weeks. It is so much fun to watch him coach!! If you would like to contact him is email is

Decision Time -- Open Enrollment

Notes from the September 8th, 2014 Council Meeting
1. A first degree was held for 3 brothers, Jason Roberts, Kevin Garrett, Derek McNeeley.
a. Jason was from Good Shepherd.
2. Our insurance agent gave a short status on the insurance programs.
3. Chris B. reviewed the updated changes to our by-laws, they will be voted on at the next meeting.
4. Charlie gave a status on the upcoming soccer challenge on Sept. 21.
5. Bill H. also indicated that they had formed teams to compete in the YMCA league, boys and
girls teams.
6. Mark reviewed the detail information on the upcoming Fourth Degree scheduled for Nov. 8,
2014 in Duluth, Ga. The cutoff date is Oct 16, 2014.
7. Bill gave a status on the upcoming Polish dinner, he also requested help from all brothers.
8. Quentin gave a status on the upcoming breakfast this coming Sunday:
a. The church staff will work in the dining room, knights will do the cooking.
b. He also stated that the knights will have a booth at the Parish Fair.
c. The knights breakfast is scheduled for December.
d. Our monthly Social is scheduled for 9/26/14.
9. Curtis W. gave a status on the Whispering Hope Project:
a. We raised $19,000 and supreme gave us 16,488 to purchase the equipment and provide training for the staff at Whispering Hope.
10. The Trustee's said the new year budget was almost done and would be ready by the next
meeting.
11. Dick F. requested workers for the breakfast on Sunday.
12. The Grand Knight requested that everyone update the address list with the correct phone
numbers and correct E-mail addresses.
13. Doug mentioned that the knights would support the Trunk & Treat again this year on October
31st. More details at the next meeting.
