Even those who practice stewardship faithfully, even the best among us, have times when they may turn their back on those in need. The Solemnity that we celebrate today is popularly known as Christ the King. It is in Church terms relatively new. Instituted in 1921 by Pope Pius XI, it was originally on the last Sunday of October. It was renamed in 1969 by Pope Paul VI and moved to its present date, which is the last Sunday in the liturgical year, the last Sunday before Advent. The edict issued by Pope Pius XI in 1925 was called Quas Primas. It stated “It has long been a custom to give to Christ the metaphorical title of ‘King.’ He is King of Hearts by reason of His ‘charity which exceedeth all knowledge’.” Today’s readings trace our Lord Jesus Christ from “the shepherd who tends his flock” to the “first fruits” to the “king.” As stewards of His Word, His Kingdom, and His Hope, He invites us to see Him in everyone we see and everyone we encounter so that we can finally hear His glorious declaration, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father.” PUEDE LEER MAS EN WWW.THECATHOLICSTEWARD.COM 9am-12pm; 1-6pm 949-492-4101 w e lco m e to our lady of fatima parish NOVEMBER 23, 2014 / 23 DE NOVIEMBRE, 2014 f r o m o u r pa sto r , fr. James C. Ries Dear Parishioners and Friends of Our Lady of Fatima,/ Queridos parroquianos y amigos de Nuestra Señora de Fátima, The Platform Lift Update Informe el Ascensor Many of you have inquired about the lift that was to be installed at my apartment. It is finally installed and functioning well! We also had a stair lift installed in the Parish Office and the work in the church sanctuary to help me out when needed. I want to thank everyone for their prayers and generosity in helping to get this accomplished. As mentioned before I had concern about spending too much from the parish savings to finish these projects, but I knew God would supply. Between the Parishes in Need gift from the diocese, the gift from parishioners at St. Mary’s, a little from an estate gift, some from the For Christ Forever rebate, and the generous gifts from all of you, nearly all was paid for before using our savings. Thank you all again for helping to make my life a bit easier. Confessions on Thursday Just a reminder: I have moved up to the church building for the winter months to listen to confessions on Thursdays from 7-8pm God bless you all! Fr. Use them for your personal reflection throughout the week or as a topic of conversation at your dinner table, ministry meeting or your next social gathering. Carrying the Sunday readings into our week is a way to In the first reading today, God is compared to the shepherd who cares for his flock wherever they are, taking care of every need. The shepherd seeks out the lost and forgotten and heals the sick and injured. In Matthew’s gospel, Jesus tells His disciples that to inherit the kingdom we must imitate the shepherd in our care for the vulnerable. 1. 2. How does God care for you? How do you care for others? help us grow in our faith as individuals and as a parish. With all the preparations for Thanksgiving Day, it’s easy for the season of Advent to sneak up on us. Yet, this time of preparation is important. Next Sunday, November 30, we will light the first of four candles on our parish Advent wreath. At 10am, parish families are invited to come to McGowan Hall to assemble their own Advent wreath to take home and continue the celebration of the season. All materials including candles will be available. The gathering will conclude prior to the 11am Mass with a blessing of the wreaths. This gathering is for EVERYONE! Families with children, couples and singles. Six children are needed to participate in the blessing ritual. Contact Denise Schnarr at [email protected] if you would like to participate. Suggested wreath donation is $5. October Mass Count 2014/ Conteo de Misas de Octubre 2014 Some of you may have noticed a person counting the people at Mass during the month of October. We do this every October to gauge if we are growing or shrinking or staying the same. We also send this information to the Diocese, who combines it with the other parishes and sends it to Rome. Listed below are several years of data for Our Lady of Fatima. We attribute the steep decline to when construction on the new hall began. We have steadily been growing since it was completed.
