From the Pastor
Brothers and sisters:
I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was
handed over, took bread, and, after he had given thanks, broke it and said, "This is my body
that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me." In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me." For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of
the Lord until he comes.
The above passage comes from our second reading today and reminds us of the reason for our
Sunday celebrations of Mass. The Mass is the re-presentation of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. Each time we celebrate the Mass one could say that we are right there with Jesus
throughout his life on earth including the Last Supper, the Passion, and Resurrection. Most
importantly, at the Mass, we offer to God true worship. It is in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass
that we offer to God the Father the one offering that pleases him most: the Body, Blood, Soul,
and Divinity of Jesus Christ.
In turn, we are fed with the Eucharist which is the source and the summit of the Christian life.
It is in the Eucharist that we find our peace, joy, and a share in the Kingdom of Heaven. As we
read in the Catechism of the Catholic Church: Holy Communion augments our union with
Christ. The principal fruit of receiving the Eucharist in Holy Communion is an intimate union
with Christ Jesus. Indeed, the Lord said: "He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in
me, and I in him." Life in Christ has its foundation in the Eucharistic banquet: "As the living
Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me."
But the Eucharist does more, as food does for the body so does the Eucharist for us spiritually.
It obtains for us the remission of venial sins (mortal sins still need confession). The Eucharist
also strengthens us in the face of temptation and helps us to do works of charity.
Finally, the Eucharist is our pledge of salvation and is in fact a share in the Kingdom of
Heaven even while we are on earth. And so, with our “Amen” to “The Body of Christ” we
have every right to be filled with heavenly joy and peace and a share in the many good things
to come for those who love and have faith in the Lord.

FAITH IS
Faith is not merely praying
Upon our knees at night;
Faith is not merely straying
Through darkness into light . . .
Faith is the brave endeavor,
The splendid enterprise,
The strength to serve, whatever
Conditions may arise.

Santísimo Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo
29 de Mayo de 2016
Del Pastor
Hermanos y hermanas:
