Saylor was diagnosed at the age of 2 and is spreading her story and raising money in hopes for a cure for her and the other 300,000 kids in the US that have arthritis. LADIES OF THE PARISH May 10, June 14, July12, Aug 9, Sept 13 The St. Jude Council of Catholic Women has made the decision to make the Second Tuesdays of the Month our regular evening meeting in the St. Jude Parish Life Center. Please mark 7 p.m. on your calendars at least for the summer months. We don’t have a complete “line up” for the year, but will begin with a presentation from some ladies of our parish that just returned from a pilgrimage to Italy. It will be great fun to hear about the trip first hand and hopefully see some pictures as well. We will also let you know how wonderful the Council of Catholic Women convention was in Jefferson City in midApril for those of you who were unable to attend. Acabas de llegar a casa del trabajo, completamente exhausta. Prendes la televisión, te tumbas en el sofá, y miras tu programa favorito. Saboreas este momento de silencio.Entonces, tu hijo comienza a lloriquear sin parar. Quiere un pedazo de pastel de chocolate antes de cenar. Le dices que no.“Me lo prometiste”, dice. “Me dijiste que podría comerlo cuando llegara a casa”.Le dices que espere hasta después de cenar. Entonces se para frente a la televisión. “¡Lo quiero ahora, ahora mismo!”.Cierras los ojos y respiras. Tal vez cuentas hasta 10. Pero tu hijo aumenta el tono: “¡Me mentiste! ¡Te esperé todo el día! ¡Te odio! ¡Eres una estúpida!”.Esta prueba de paciencia termina volviéndose un bullyingmomentáneo. Estás siendo agredida y degradada verbalmente por tu propio hijo.¿Qué haces?3 tácticas comunes de contraataqueNormalmente, los padres eligen una de las tres respuestas en esos momentos: rendirse, castigar o negociar.1.Rendirse En toda batalla vale la pena luchar. Rendirse y dar a tu hijo lo que quiere es, a veces, una buena opción, especialmente si estás queriendo un poco de paz. Pero cuando la prueba de paciencia se transforma en un asedio moral, ¿qué hacer?En este caso, nunca cedas a las exigencias del niño. Hacer eso equivaldría a recompensar el comportamiento abusivo. Este es un momento de enseñanza que ofrece la lección equivocada.Cada vez que te rindes al asedio moral de tu hijo, le envías este mensaje simple: la intimidación funciona. Entonces, la próxima vez que él se sienta frustrado por tus restricciones, te intimidará para lograr lo que quiere: Finalmente, le has enseñado que si insiste lo suficiente, te rendirás tarde o temprano. 2.Castigar Cuando tu hijo te hace bullying, es difícil no incomodarse y responder a la provocación. Poseer la fuerza de carácter para resistir al comportamiento agresivo de un niño no es una habilidad que surge naturalmente. Como sucede con cualquier forma de autodominio, es necesario cultivarla.Perder la calma, gritar e imponer a tu hijo castigos severos son formas de contra bullying que crean una cultura de intimidación en la familia. Los padres que ganan las batallas contra sus hijos, en realidad obtienen victorias amargas. No hay ni vencedor ni ganador. Uno está feliz y el otro no. Los niños que reciben castigos constantes se vuelven despreciativos y resentidos y, más tarde, pueden surgir problemas de comportamiento más graves. Por ejemplo, el niño puede: – Volverse desafiante y opositor, de manera directa o a través de la resistencia silenciosa. – Interiorizar su frustración y terminar desarrollando una depresión o ansiedad. – Intensificar aún más las intimidaciones, ampliando los conflictos y perturbando a toda la familia. (Negociar)Ok, tu hijo está teniendo un colapso. Si fueras una madre atenta, pararías por un momento y considerarías tus opciones. Intentarías entender su punto de vista. Él te esperó todo el día (y su pastel). Entonces, cuando finalmente llegas a casa, en vez de saludarlo te tumbaste en el sofá, prendiste la televisión y lo ignoraste.Resultado: Él está molesto, y con el derecho de estarlo. Entonces decides hacer un acuerdo. Le ofreces la mitad de un pedazo ahora, y la otra mitad después de cenar. Ahora considera:¿La negociación es la mejor opción en este momento?¿Y si él hiciera una contrapropuesta?Supón que él continúa intimidándote y exigiendo todo el pedazo. La negociación es una opción popular en la paternidad moderna. Y la intención de encontrar un terreno común con tu hijo durante los conflictos no es una mala idea. Tú cedes un poco, él cede un poco, y todo el mundo se queda feliz, ¿verdad?(Sí y no)Cuando la prueba de paciencia se vuelve un bullying, la negociación está descartada. Cuando negocias con un valentón, preparas el escenario para otros conflictos. De la misma forma que la rendición, la negociación recompensa el bullying y entrena a tu hijo a repetirlo. La próxima vez que tu hijo se frustre con tus restricciones, volverá a hacer bullying, porque éste lleva a la negociación, y la negociación tiende a ser beneficiosa para él.Otro problema de la negociación: el niño puede comenzar a pensar que todo, incluso el buen comportamiento, es negociable. En vez de hacer algo por los buenos sentimientos que produce esa acción, termina haciendo las cosas sólo en vistas a una recompensa. Por ejemplo:Tu hija te pide que le pagues por hacer su cama. Tu hijo espera una recompensa por hacer sus tareas de casa.Tus hijos piden dinero por tener buenas notas.El buen comportamiento nunca debe ser una moneda de intercambio. La negociación por recompensas sustituye la conquista personal y provocará una pérdida de autoestima en tus hijos. En vez de que desarrollen autosuficiencia y autonomía, se quedan inmaduros y apegados a sus padres por la gratificación. 3 opciones que podrías elegir Has aprendido que rendirse, castigar o negociar son soluciones que no funcionan a largo plazo. Estas tácticas ofrecen algún alivio a corto plazo, gestionando los síntomas del bullying, pero no sus causas.Antes de mirar las cuestiones más profundas, consideremos los tres pasos más importantes que puedes dar en un momento de bullying: evitar el conflicto, validar sentimientos, y elevar los puntos fuertes.1.Evitar el conflict En momentos de bullying, los padres muchas veces reaccionan impulsivamente y aumentan el conflicto. Gritan o castigan, lo que aumenta la tensión y empeora el bullying. Es vital mantener la compostura y liderazgo en tales momentos. No te vuelvas reactivo o des respuestas automáticas. Permanece con los pies en la tierra, sin drama.Si el conflicto se agrava, aprieta el botón de pausa: Toma un momento y dale a todos una oportunidad para calmarse. Cuando los niños están en estado de intensa frustración, no se puede argumentar con ellos. Si lo intentas, sólo aumentarás aún más su frustración.Tú y tu hijo se beneficiarán mucho cuando comiences a dar un momento de silencio para acomodar tus pensamientos y recuperar tu equilibrio. Si puedes, sal de la sala o da un paseo tranquilo. Toma un poco de aire fresco. Le darás tiempo para calmarse. Encuentra alguna paz en ti mismo antes de intentar hacer las paces con tu hijo. Cuando las cosas se calmen, puedes concientemente determinar cuál es la acción a tomar.2.Validar sentimientos Nunca te equivocarás al validar los sentimientos de tu hijo:“Yo entiendo que estás frustrado. Yo también lo estoy”.“Puedo ver que estás molesto. Dame 10 minutos de silencio para pensar mejor en ello”.“Vamos a comer algo antes de hablar sobre eso”.Los niños responden positivamente cuando reconoces sus sentimientos. Se calman inmediatamente.Durante la pausa, pregúntate a ti misma. “¿Qué podría estar causando el bullying de mi hijo? ¿Está cansado? ¿Tiene hambre? ¿Se siente descuidado? ¿Fue un largo día para todos?”.El bullying es un efecto: tiene siempre una causa subyacente. Considera lo que podría estar irritando tanto a tu hijo. Ayúdalo a decir lo que piensa y, enseguida, valida sus sentimientos.“Yo entiendo que estás con rabia, tienes derecho a estarlo”.“Tus sentimientos están heridos. Estás irritado porque no te daré lo que quieres”.“En vez de pelear, vamos a intentar otra cosa: Dime por qué estás tan enojado”.Incentiva una comunicación más madura. El sentimiento que demostraste comprender desarmará la frustración y reformulará el momento. Recuerda: Dale al niño lo que necesita, no lo que quiere.Aprender a comunicar de forma eficaz en momentos de frustración es más importante que cualquier cosa que tu hijo esté deseando en ese momento. Rendirse, castigar o negociar le quita al niño la oportunidad de lidiar con su frustración y dominarla.Deja claro que el bullying nunca funciona:“No voy a responder mientras estés gritándome”.“De esa manera no vas a conseguir lo que quieres”.“Puedes hacerlo mejor que esto. Eres muy inteligente para hablar sobre las cosas”. 3.Resaltar sus puntos fuertesDespués de pensar en la 2uertes2 que tomarás, defiende tu territorio. No modifiques nada para que tu hijo no te pruebe e insista aún más. A lo largo del camino, asegúrate de elogiar los puntos 2uertes de tu hijo:“Yo 2uerte la manera como estás hablando conmigo ahora”.“Yo se que eso fue difícil para ti. Estoy orgullosa de la forma como estás expresándote ahora”.“Estás 2uertes2 un gran trabajo. Eso es madurez”.Al reforzar los puntos 2uertes de tu hijo aumentarás su confianza y volverás la comunicación más gratificante que la 2uertes2on.
