Jesus, the Good Shepherd Parish
Rooster: Jesus was denied by Peter ... and the cock
crowed 3 times, and after being betrayed, denied,
rejected, beaten, tortured, stripped, mocked and
crucified, He looks down from the cross and asks us “Why
do you not respond when I have given you everything I
have?” Lift our eyes to Jesus to discover the definitive
answer.

Good Friday Living Stations Service
The Good Friday - Living Stations service will be held on
March 25, 2016 in St. Peter's Church at 7:00 PM. This
service is a great way to meditate on the passion of our
Lord, while watching volunteers from the church
community re-enact Christ's footsteps on that Good
Friday. Rehearsal will be held on Sunday, March 20, 2016,
after the 6:00 PM mass at St. Peter's. Any questions,
contact John LaVerghetta at (215) 806-3819 or email at
[email protected]. I look forward to seeing you there.
What is a Holy Door?
The Holy Door is a special part of the celebrations which
take place during a Jubilee Year. The use of these doors
dates back to at least 1475. It is a unique door in each of
the Major Papal Basilicas in Rome which is ordinarily
sealed with brick, but which is opened for Jubilee Years
when pilgrims cross through it as a symbolic gesture. The
symbolism of these doors comes from the ancient practice
of offering sanctuary in churches to those who had run
afoul of the law. Today, the Church remains a home for
sinners and invites us to cross the Threshold of the Holy
Door and open our hearts to receive the mercy of Christ.
As not everyone can travel to Rome to cross the Holy
Door at St. Peter’s Basilica, The Most Reverend David
O’Connell, CM, Bishop of Trenton, has designated a door
at St. Katharine Drexel Parish, Burlington, to serve as a
local Holy Door during the Jubilee of Mercy. In this way,
greater numbers of the faithful may receive the fruits of
the Jubilee offered according to the wishes of the Holy
Father, Pope Francis.

Liturgical Bits & Bytes – Lenten Change
Lent is about change. It calls us to change our attitudes; it calls us to change our habits; and it prays that
God will change our hearts. Sometimes when we do things differently we can awaken the presence of God
in our lives. Try this: tomorrow morning brush your teeth using your left hand (if you’re right-handed). You
will immediately notice how much focus it requires. It’s the same with our worship. Sometimes we need to
do things differently just to appreciate their meaning. That’s part of the reason for the change of liturgical
seasons, a simple sign that we are willing to allow God to move us from wherever we are to wherever God
wants us to be.
