BULLETIN REFLECTION
The stewardship message in the
parable of the Prodigal Son is that
it is never too late to become a
good steward. Blessed is the elder
brother who had been a good
steward all along, but blessed, too
is the prodigal who had to lose all
he had in order to understand the
value of what he’d been given.

FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT
First Reading: Isaiah 43:16-21
 The first reading tells of God’s promise to
bring deliverance, restoration and salvation
to the people of Israel.
Second Reading: Philippians 3:8-14
 The second reading reminds us of Paul’s
acceptance of the loss of all things so that he
might gain Christ.
Gospel Reading: John 8:1-11
 In the Gospel, Jesus refuses to let anyone
condemn the woman caught in adultery, and
tells her to sin no more.
******************************
"A Christian Lent can never be entirely sad. With
the fourth Sunday the pent up spiritual joy in the
true member of Christ bursts forth in anticipation of
Easter joy to come. “Rejoice, O Jerusalem, and
come together all you that love her; rejoice with joy,
you that have been in sorrow,” a note reechoed in
Page 2
the gradual and the offertory. The melody of the
introit also is significantly that of the first Easter
alleluia. This was the day when the catechumens
were decked with roses and when roses were
mutually exchanged. Thence comes the custom of
the rose vestment.”
By Virgil Michel
“Why should we Christians feel joyful today? In the
first place, this Sunday is a festival of spring. At
least it was so in the early church. In olden times
the first roses were brought to the church for a
blessing on this Sunday. (In Mediterranean lands
spring comes much earlier.) Christians of former
times lived much closer to nature than we do.
When after the cold of winter spring comes to our
land like a smiling youth, when in the fields God
begins the miracle of multiplying bread, when God
spreads a great table from which all creatures, the
lowest to the highest, can eat their fill, when God
lifts the white pall of winter from the earth and
restores life in abundance to plants and animals–
then Christians have cause to experience heartfelt
joy, for they have a presentiment that Paradise is
not far away.”

Community Life
Dear Friends,
This weekend we celebrate the Fourth Sunday of
Lent. This Sunday is known as Laetare Sunday.
Laetare is the first word in the entrance antiphon that
is taken from the Latin translation. Laetare when
translated into English means “REJOICE.” It sets the
tone of joyful anticipation of the great feast of Easter.
It is a day to rejoice and be glad for the great feast of
Easter is so near!
The gospel this weekend is the beautiful parable of the
Prodigal Son, which is found in the gospel of Luke. It
is a very challenging parable, but most of the parables
are very challenging. A commentator on the parable
of the Prodigal Son writes; “This parable also prompts
us to ask ourselves if we really know God, and if we
are comfortable with the God who loves so lavishly,
forgives so freely and wishes to be reconciled with
every sinner.” Indeed, it’s a powerful question.
Another commentator on this passage asks which of
the two sons we identify with and then goes on to say;
“Whether you are the younger or older son, you have
to realize that you are called to become the father.”
That’s very amazing and also most challenging!

The reading from Joshua proclaims a constant theme
in the Hebrew scriptures: the journey of the Israelite
people back to God. Time and time again they have a
sense of “homecoming.” This sense of “homecoming”
always urges them on. When they sinned and turned
their backs on their Creator and Redeemer, God did
not relent. Time and time again, God’s mercy brought
them home to healing and forgiveness. For the
Hebrew people, the mercy of God was celebrated
every year on the Feast of Passover. Then, they
remembered the story of their beginnings and praised
the God who never ceased calling them home.
The Seder Supper will be held in the PARISH
CENTER. Please see the flyer for details.
Paul calls the Corinthians to become a new creation.
In other words, he calls them to the continuing
process of transformation that is at the heart of the life
of faith. This new creation that we are called to
transforms the old order of death, sin, and darkness
into a new order, which is filled with life, holiness,
and light. This is all made possible by God who has
reconciled all humanity “in Christ.” Paul has become
an ambassador for Christ of God’s reconciling grace.
His life and mission become a living sign of what God
has done for all people in Christ. Paul proclaims that
all believers are charged with the same mission, to be
living signs of God’s loving mercy and forgiveness.
 PARISH RAFFLE: Our Annual PARISH
RAFFLE chances will be mailed out shortly. Once
again, the grand prize will be $10,000 if all 300

raisers throughout the year. Please consider
purchasing a chance for 2016. Your support of this
annual fund raiser is very much appreciated.
May the abundant grace and peace of God fill us on
our journey to Easter Sunday! May we truly celebrate
on this Laetare Sunday the coming feast of the
Resurrection!
Peace,
Fr. Steve

Hi Everyone,
Trish and I have been hearing
that Season Two is being enjoyed
more than Season One. Some
positive feedback follows:
a. Some have become more
familiar with the process.
b. The spirituality of Lent is
highlighted.
c. Taking turns going around
with the readings is helping people
to focus.
d. The Gospel readings in Session
Three where 3 people
represented the characters has
been thought provoking.
Session 4 encourages 3 people to
read again.
So . . . as most of us move into
Session Four we encourage you to
keep on keeping on as you
encourage your group to be faithful
to the process.
After Easter we'll plan a gathering to
celebrate "Arise Together in Christ"
Blessings to each of you,
Trish & S. Gerri
Accept the gift of faith from God
and be deeply grateful. We have all
received and used this awesome gift. Many times
we are unaware of just how much our Faith had
sustained us. There are times when we need to be
reminded of the importance of faith in God and the
joy we received from experiencing this faith. Our
sick and Homebound have received the same gift
of faith, but there are times when they are either
too sick or feeble to realize they have it. Others are
filled with so much on their minds. They are
dealing with waiting for surgery, a biopsy, test
results and so much more. The family and
caretakers are going through their own burdens
and conflict trying to be faithful to the one who is
ill. We can sustain them and surround them with
our gift of faith. We can saturate them in prayer so
they can feel that gift of renewed faith. That feeling
of being loved and remembered by us through us.
We send the message of God’s eternal
unconditional love to them. We pray our prayers
asking God to give those patients strength, and
especially the beautiful gift of Faith, Hope and
Love. “Love patiently accepts all things. It always
trusts, always hopes, and always remains strong…and
the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 7 & 13.
Remember to share your gifts and continue to be
faithful to our sick brothers and sisters with your
prayers. Give them the gift of Faith, Hope and
Love.

UN MENSAJE DE
NUESTRO PARROCO
Queridos amigos,
preguntarnos si realmente conocemos a Dios, y si
Israel a Dios. Una y otra vez tienen un sentido de
"vuelta a casa".
Podemos
verdaderamente celebrar en este Laetare la próxima
fiesta de la Resurrección!
Paz,
P. Steve
