Sacramental Life of our Parish
Baptism for children (under the age of 7) is celebrated in
English on the first three Sundays at 1 pm; in Spanish on
the last Sunday of the month at 1 pm; in Kreyol on the 3rd
Saturday at 1 pm. Parents attend a preparation session on
the first Monday of the month from 8 to 9:30 pm in the
church. Please call the Parish Center (334-0021) to make
arangements to speak to one of our priests or deacons
about your child’s upcoming baptism.
Celebration of Marriage
Please call the Parish Center (334-0021) at least six
months in advance to make arrangements for an interview
with one of our parish deacons or priests who will meet
with the engaged couple, set the time and date of the
wedding and make arrangements for our parish marriage
preparation program.
Rite of Christian Initiation
Adults who have never been baptized are prepared for the
reception of the sacraments of initiation (Baptism,
Eucharist and Confirmation) through the RCIA process.
Other adults may have already been baptized, but are
seeking to receive Eucharist and/or Confirmation. Those
interested in knowing more about the process of becoming
a full member of the Catholic Church are invited to call
Sister Ann Horn at 516-333-9434. Parents who have
school-aged children who have never been baptized are
also invited to speak to Sister Ann about their process of
preparation for these sacraments.
Sacraments of School Age Children
Our parish religious education program prepares children
for the celebration of the sacraments of Eucharist,
Reconciliation and Confirmaton. The norm is that children
receive a two-year preparation for Reconciliation and
Eucharist (normally celebrated in the second grade) and a
two-year preparation program for Confirmation (normally
celebrated in the eighth grade). Our religious education
program deepens the experience of faith and religious
formation in the years betweeen the celebrations of these
sacraments.
Parents who have children older than first grade and are
seeking to have them receive the sacraments of Eucharist
(First communion), Reconciliation or Confirmation are
asked to call the Religious Education office.
Communion to the Sick and Homebound
Anyone who is not able to attend Mass because of frailty,
chronic or temporary illness, or admission to hospice can
have Holy Communion brought to them at home on a
regular basis. Please call the parish office to make
arrangements for a lay minister to bring holy communion.

Breaking Open the Word
Reflecting on next Sunday’s Gospel before you come to Mass can bring
so much more meaning to your experience of liturgy. Here’s the gospel
for next Sunday. How does this Gospel touch your life?
April 12th - Second Sunday of Easter
John 20:19-31
On the evening of that first day of the week,
when the doors were locked, where the disciples were,
for fear of the Jews,
Jesus came and stood in their midst
and said to them, "Peace be with you."
When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side.
The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you.
As the Father has sent me, so I send you."
And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them,
"Receive the Holy Spirit.
Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them,
and whose sins you retain are retained."
Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve,
was not with them when Jesus came.
So the other disciples said to him, "We have seen the Lord."
But he said to them,
"Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands
and put my finger into the nailmarks
and put my hand into his side, I will not believe."
Now a week later his disciples were again inside
and Thomas was with them.
Jesus came, although the doors were locked,
and stood in their midst and said, "Peace be with you."
Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands,
and bring your hand and put it into my side,
and do not be unbelieving, but believe."
Thomas answered and said to him, "My Lord and my God!"
Jesus said to him, "Have you come to believe because you have seen
me?
Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed."
Now, Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples
that are not written in this book.
But these are written that you may come to believe
that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God,
and that through this belief you may have life in his name.

Gospel Reflection
Questions
• Think of a time when
God allowed you to “see”
through the gift of patience.
• Think of some of the
things you believe although you cannot see
them.
Some Questions for
Families & Children
• Think of what it means
to know that Jesus chose
to save us without knowing us.
• Think of a time when
you gave up something to
help another person.

POST
Announcing change in
Saturday Mass schedule
-- effective April 18.
Since my arrival here, there
seems to be an increasing
number of funeral services that
are scheduled at Saint Brigid’s
for Saturday morning. Wanting to
be able to accommodate those
who are desiring to bury a loved
one from our parish and also
wanting to accommodate people
who wish to schedule a wedding
or a Quincinera or other special
liturgy on a Saturday morning, I
have decided to move the
Saturday morning Mass from
9:00am to 8:00am. This change
will go into effect on Saturday,
April 18, 2015. I thank you for
making the adjustments
necessary for this new schedule.
Thank you for all who
worked so hard to make
Lent and Holy Week so
special here at Saint
Brigid’s
Once again, I am so indebted to
the many many people who work
behind the scenes to make sure
that the services of Lent and
Holy Week were prayerfully
done. To those who worked on
Tenebrae and the Seven Last
Words, those who prepared the
celebration of the Stations of the
Cross in various languages, those
who decorated the Church, the
Chapel and Monsignor Code
Auditorium, our many choirs,
cantors and musicians and all our
liturgical minsters -- to all I say
Thank you!
E-mail Father Tony: [email protected]
Warum? The sign painted in blood red stood amidst a makeshift
memorial of candles in the city square of Dusseldorf, the city of
intended destination of Germanwings Flight 9525 that crashed in the
Alps this past week. Warum? Why? Once again, the global community
shakes its head in wonder, caught unawares by the insanity of evil that
has intrusively thrust itself into our civilized world. This should not be!
Why? In the wake of this tragedy come all the unanswered questions
that ceaselessly haunt our minds and hearts. Why senseless dying? Why
the blind hatred of terrorism? Why the indifference toward the poor, the
homeless, the immigrant? In our own personal lives, we are often
overwhelmed by the irrationality that keeps families divided into
hardened camps. How did we get here? Why did we get here?
And just what is the response of the Almighty in heaven? How does He
respond to our fists shaking at his heavenly door, demanding an answer
to our challenging questions? Why the insanity – why the irrationality of
it all?
For the Christian, God’s answer once again is played out dramatically in
this past week’s events. God answers insanity with an equally insane
response. He literally fights fire with fire. He answers the irrationality
of evil by submitting to Evil itself in the death of the Innocent One, the
spotless Lamb of God. God’s answer to the insanity of evil is the even
greater insanity of choosing to love despite it all.
And Love proves to be more victorious – for Love conquers the grave.
The drama of Easter is more than just a private miracle of One defying
the grave two thousand years ago. For the Christian, Easter is more than
just another sign that proves to us that Jesus is God. Easter is God’s
declaration that evil does not win. And the power of victory is in your
hands – for you too can join in the fight against the insanity of evil by
continuing to love, to give, to sacrifice, and yes even to die. For your
loving is not in vain and your death is no longer pointless. When you
give yourself to love, you give yourself to a divine power that is
unstoppable.
The question is simply this: we can live in our brains trying to figure out
why the unthinkable horrors of this world still occur. We can allow the
insanity of it all to immobilize us with fear. We can allow the
irrationality of it all to make us question if anything is really worth it in
the end. Or, we can choose to love despite it all, and believe that God’s
insane response to evil is the only response that makes sense in the end.
In the end, the choice is yours.

Upcoming Parish In-Home Retreat
Bringing the Joy of the Gospel to Those We Meet
Three weekly meetings beginning April 27th
The first apostolic exhortation of the Holy Father, “The Joy of the
Gospel,” gives a refreshing look at the call for all Christians to be
bearers of good news in our world today. As in the past, our in-home
retreat is an opportunity for us to gather in small groups and, in the
spirit of sharing our faith and love for Jesus, encourage one another in
living the joy of the gospel. Our journey is never meant to be a solo
experience. In these groups, we come to know other people of faith
which gives us encouragement in the journey!
We make this invitation to all to sign-up for this in-home retreat now so
that we can begin to form the groups according to your personal
preferences.

Sharing Gifts
If you do, there’s a great way to help support St. Brigid

Palm Sunday
Instead of going to regular amazon.com, go to
smile.amazon.com
Everything available at amazon.com is available at
smile.amazon.com - it’s still Amazon. The difference is
that whenever you go to smile.amazon.com, a small percentage of your purchase is donated to St. Brigid Church by
amazon.com.
It’s simple to set up:
1) Have your regular Amazon account sign in and
password handy.
2) Go to smile.amazon.com.
3) Sign in using your regular sign in and password.
4) If this is the first time you are doing this, it will ask
you to choose a charity. Click on “or pick your own charitable organization” and type Roman Catholic Church of
St. Brigids. (If you’ve already chosen a charity, consider
changing it to St. Brigid.)
5) A list will come up, select the Westbury location,
and voila!
The parish will receive from then on a small donation from
Amazon as a result of each purchase you make.

P. Jason

Easter Letter from the Bishop
Easter 2015
Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Risen Lord:
How changed is the world this Easter morn! How wondrous the truth on the lips of His faithful disciples! Can there be any chant more beautiful, any news more desired, any heart that could seek for
more? Jesus Christ is Risen! It is true! He is Risen! Alleluia!
The long Lent of human history was ended that first Easter Sunday morn when Mary Magdalen discovered that the tomb was empty and the body of her beloved Lord was missing. But that body,
cruelly put to death on the tree of Calvary, was not missing. It was transformed! It was glorified! For
the Son of God made man fulfilled His destiny on this earth and so transformed our destiny from sin
and death to life in Him, life eternal.
You and I are the recipients of the long journey of love that Jesus travelled from Galilee to Jerusalem,
from birth in a stable to death on a cross. When Jesus took that sign of death and made it the sign of
glory, He accomplished the will of the Father who so loved the world that He sent His Son not to condemn but to save the world. And this is the salvation which is ours: Life in Christ Jesus, Life eternal!
My prayer this Easter is that we all with deep faith acknowledge with joy and gratitude that God’s
love triumphed in the resurrection of Jesus from the dead and that His resurrection gives us our new
destiny: we share His divine life now and will share it with Him forever in glory! My prayer is that
we all participate in Mass this Easter Sunday as a pledge of our fidelity to Him who died and rose.
My prayer is that we greet one another with that ancient greeting of Christians: Christ is risen! He is
truly risen. Alleluia.
If we do that then I am confident we will be renewed in His life and we will be so filled with His
Spirit that we will seek to share His life with others and witness His life to the world. I am confident
that we will be more eager to care for the sick, reach out to the poor, bear one another’s burdens and
be true brothers and sisters by prayer and action to all who need us in our parishes, our communities,
our nation and the world. The world needs the witness of our faith in the Risen Christ. The world
needs the witness of our hope for the future. The world needs our love that embraces all those whom
our Savior embraced from the cross. May they too share in the resurrection of our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ! For He is Risen. He is truly risen. Alleluia!

Pasqua 2015
Pascua 2015
¡Aleluya!
