Be sure to read the PTSA Blast and check your email for upcoming events at Central Middle School. April 10 is the last day of the marking period. The report cards will be distributed on April 21. As students enter their fourth and final marking period on April 13, it is a good time to remind them to stay focused. Their social life, team sports and end of the year events become huge distracters. It is important that both home and school are encouraging students to make good choices. We have just completed our registration for the 2015-2016 school year. Thank you to everyone who returned their forms on time. Our staffing has been adjusted to our enrollment and we are presently building the new master schedule. Every effort is made to honor all encore choices , however there may have to be some adjustment to balance students across the encore schedule for morning and afternoon sections. Unfortunately when a class is only offered in the morning or afternoon we cannot always accommodate students 1st, 2nd or 3rd choices. We will notify students and parents of any adjustment we make. Schedules will be available to students on their first day of school August.25. The sixth graders will get theirs on their first day August 24 The eighth graders are reminded that office referrals or suspensions from school will disqualify them from attending the end of the year eighth grade celebrations. Planning is underway for our eighth grade celebrations. The eighth grade teachers will be planning awards ceremonies and other events after spring break. Volume 38, Issue 9 Eighth grade parents should be on the look out for more information to come. The counselors are working with teams and parents to support students in danger of failing this year. Our goal is to have no child fail any grade while in middle school. A failure in middle school significantly decreases a students chances of graduating from high school. Working together we can prevent failure. Please contact your child’s counselor if you have concerns about your child. I hope you will check our calendar on the school website for upcoming events. Our students give quality performances and I encourage you to come out and support the arts at Central Middle this spring. Sincerely, Millie Beall Principal [email protected] Page 2 From the Guidance Office…. Just a reminder that if you will be transferring out of Central Middle over the summer or not going on to South River High School next year, please contact Mrs. Donnelly in the Guidance office prior to the final week of school. You will need to withdraw and obtain transfer papers for your new enrollment. All Parents and Visitors must have a government issued ID in hand upon entrance to our building. NO exceptions! Our Mission All Students will achieve high levels of performance on quality standards through active engagement in instruction tailored to their needs and interests. Video Camera System/V-Soft School Security CMS is equipped with a video camera system. It covers selected interior and exterior public portions of the building/ grounds. It is NOT monitored constantly, but is monitored during emergency situations. During events when the safety or security of students may be in question, authorized personnel from local, state or federal police or fire emergency units may be given access to view images projected on the camera system. If you have any questions about the system, you should call the supervisor of School Security at 410-222-5083. V-Soft by Raptor Ware….. When you visit our school you will be asked to present a government/state issued photo ID (i.e Driver’s License) to a staff person in the school office. The ID will be scanned and the following information collected: your photo, name and date of birth. This information will be utilized to check you in, create an ID badge, and compare your information against sexual offender databases throughout the county. If your name appears on the list or you refuse to allow the use of your ID, you will NOT be allowed access to the school. You will also be asked to check out with the office upon leaving. The information will not be shared outside of the school and is kept on a secure server. Your assistance in keeping students safe is appreciated. Introduction to French 7th grade students survived the frenzy of Winter Carnival in Quebec and Mardi Gras in New Orleans! Many demonstrated excellent prior knowledge about the holiday while many others showed exemplary learning by the amount of “throws” (beads) they earned. Students have wrapped up café vocabulary with Michelin star menus. We have been marking time by telling time, using the calendar, discovering holidays, learning the seasons and weather as we close out the third marking period. Students have been relying on many already established English skills as they master these new French concepts and vocabulary. Students who may feel they need an extra boost should be attending Help Days on Tuesdays afterschool! Remember, help is also just a click away at the textbook website at https://my.hrw.com Enter your special password and choose a unite to explore! Need extra credit? Keep your eyes and ears open for French opportunities! French 1 8th grade students took to heart the Mardi Gras motto “Laissez les bons temps rouler!” (Let the good times roll!). Thanks to Alissa Burkhart and Alexis Owens (period 3) and Emily Vining and Lucy Galvin (period 6), we had enough King’s cake to crown the royals Queen Alexis Owens and King James DuBois (pd. 3) and Queen Hannah Brown and King Ryan Jones (pd. 6)! The Royals ruled the Mardi Gras mania game, and the royal subjects were pushed to the limit to share their Carnival knowledge! Their treasure of beads marks their playful revelry! Students have finished puzzling about their personalities and possessions and are going places with unit 5 vocabulary! They have explored their own houses and communities and have ventured out into the towns to discover some of the high speed transports of France! Students can continue to practice on their textbook website at https://my.hrw.com . Enter your special password and choose a unite to explore. Keep an eye out for French Spring fashions! What do Zydeco music plus le Hoogie Boogie dance make? Cajun Mardi Gras fun for everyone! With Mrs. Yuan’s King CupCakes, Queen Lindsay Robertson and King Franky Reicherter were crowned and were the overseers of the Royal dance-a-thon! All members earned throws, doubloons, or boas from the “Royal Drawing” along with other Cajun party favors! We are continuing our College Chateaucoin exchange as we draw ever closer to our French Week spring extravaganza! Our creativity is starting to heat up as Spring approaches! Watch out CMS! This non-governmental organization was founded in Montréal, Canada in 2007. The purpose is to develop access-to-water and sanitation projects in countries around the world where water is lacking and to help raise awareness among individuals and communities on water-related issues to adopt sound habits for managing this precious resource for future generations. Currently One Drop initiatives are running in Nicaragua, Honduras, Haiti, El Salvador, India, and Burkina Faso. Since Cirque du Soleil pays for all administrative costs, 100% of donations to One Drop go to these projects! For ONE DROP, harnessing the creativity of artists and communities to underline the importance of water is second nature! Water inspires artists who, in turn, inspire communities.
