A graduate in Medicine and Surgery from Universidad Complutense of Madrid, he specialized in family and community medicine at Puerta de Hierro University Hospital of Madrid between 1988 and 1991. From 1991 to 1994 he worked as Family Doctor and residents instructor at Centro de Salud Universitario Pozuelo de Alarcón where he was named Head of Studies at the Family and Community Medicine Unit of Puerta de Hierro University Hospital of Madrid, and later the Continuing Education and Research Director until 2010. In 2011, he won the Best Healthcare-Medicine Education Idea Award for his project, “Early Clinical Immersion of Medicine Students in a Medicine Degree”. She has been involved in interprofessional education (IPE) for over 6 years. She currently collaborates with University of Central Florida College of Medicine, University of Florida School of Pharmacy and School of Social Work, and is a TeamStepps trainer. She has published on IPE in the Journal of Interprofessional Healthcare, where she detailed her experiences in the Dominican Republic. She has held positions as past director for a large simulation center in South Florida. She is currently interested in the use of simulation to enhance clinical decision-making and to enhance psychomotor skill performance. She is a member of INACSL, and incoming VP of Programs. The institute provides in-house training for the 13,000 hospital employees, technical qualification programmes, nursing school, continued education programmes and scientific conferences. The institute has two simulation centers and trained 8,000 employees and staff of other healthcare organizations in 2014. Mr. Carvalho holds an MBA from the University of Bath, England, and a BSc in Production Engineering from PUC-RJ, Brazil.
