(Names will appear for a period of approximately four weeks) 2 Pastor’s Notes For the last couple of weeks I have been asking you to read Archbishop Lori’s pastoral letter entitled “A light Brightly Visible,” subtitled Lighting the Path to Missionary Discipleship. It is clear that Archbishop Lori is politely urging all Catholics in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, whether active or not, to help the church discover our true state of being. We understand that while our church may be reaching and responding to the needs of many, there are even more, by virtue of nonongoing participation, on whom we are having little impact. We, as a Catholic church, are entering a time when we are opening our doors and our minds to discover what is going on in the world and our community and gather information about those who we do not reach. Consequently, I have several requests which I am asking you to take personally: (1) Please read the archbishop’s pastoral letter. You can access it at: www.archbalt.org. It is one of the “Featured” offerings in the upper left of the home page. I am told that it is available in both the English and Spanish languages. It is Archbishop Lori’s desire that everyone who bears the name “Catholic,” either practicing or not, read it. If you do not have a computer or internet access we have the pastoral letter available both in English and Spanish as well as surveys in both English and Spanish as well as surveys for youth aged 11 thru 17 in both English and Spanish. (2) The second step is for each of us to fill out a survey on how effectively we are living out our ministry and giving you the tools for life as a disciple. It is my hope as your pastor and brother that you take the time to read the Archbishop’s pastoral letter and then take the survey. Taking the survey will tell us what your life is like and help us get better at what we are supposed to be. (3) Your reach is more extensive than ours in this way. You know folks who feel alienated or disconnected or hurt or angry. We are asking you to invite them to a safe place of expressing their opinions. Invite them to read the pastoral letter and take the survey. (4) If you have friends and family who are unable to read because of advanced age or any other reason, please offer to read it to them and then help them respond to the survey. For sure, everyone is significant in the church. They may have not felt this in the past. Help them communicate with us. (5) Right now, I need a group of Core Leaders to help me figure out how best to get this done in our Faith Community and then when it is all over, interpret the information. Consider being a part of this core group. Not everyone reads the bulletin and not everyone has use of the internet. We have a deadline of mid-December for completing the survey. By the way, for the sake of this discussion please consider our three parishes as one parish. By that I mean state that you are going to your home church if you attend one of our 10/12 weekend Masses no matter which parish you attend. CCGB has 4 worship sites (3 churches and Slade). The survey given us to fill out was designed for the typical one parish, one church entity. The more we know about ourselves and the families we are supposed to reach, the more effectively we can build our future together. Please respond personally and get others to do the same. If you are interested in helping me, please email me. My contact information: My email address is [email protected]; my cell is 410-299-6731. Remember, God loves you and so do I. Make it a good week. Please come and help save the life of 3 people in your community. One blood donation saves on average 3 lives. This is an extremely selfless gift that cost nothing but your time. You can schedule an appointment to donate at www.redcrossblood.com; the sponsor code is holytrinity. Click on the small red arrow on the left side of your screen adjacent to Holy Trinity Church. You will be directed to a screen where you can choose the time best suited to your schedule. You may choose to donate blood or “double red cells”. Double red cell donation is similar to a whole blood donation, except a machine is used to allow you to safely donate two units of red blood cells during one donation while returning your plasma and platelets to you. This option is only available for those with A negative, B negative, AB, AB negative, or O blood. “Rapid Pass” sign-in will be available on Saturday, Nov. 7 so that you can complete the pre-reading and donation questions from the comfort & privacy of your home and save as much as 15 minutes in ‘wait time’ on Sunday! Of course, walk-ins are always welcome! If you need information or help to schedule your appointment, please contact Mike Brug at [email protected] or Kathy Ferris at [email protected]. The Knights of Columbus is a fraternal Catholic organization. Our first founding principle is Charity. If interested in joining the Knights of Columbus please call Mike Brug at 410-227-4540. Saint Vincent de Paul A new Ministry at the Catholic Church of Glen Burnie! One of the scribes came up to Jesus, and asked him, “Which is the first of all the commandments?” Jesus replied: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength…and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Mark 12: 28-34). Through your participation in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul you can show your love for our Lord and your love of your neighbor who is hungry, hopeless, alone, and frightened. To learn more please join us on Thursdays at 7 p.m. in the Holy Trinity Hall or call our Conference President, Mickey Yachera, at 410-591-0409. Haiti Outreach Committee Recently I was asked to be the Godmother for the wedding of a dear couple, Daniel and Magareth. In Haiti one chooses Godparents for each Sacrament. Although I was honored by this request, after much prayer, I decided to decline. The most important role of the Godmother is to provide spiritual guidance to the couple, to be a source of strength and encouragement when they confront the inevitable 4 struggles that come with marriage. I felt unsure of my ability to counsel them because although I know Daniel quite well I am not as close to Magareth. Additionally a Godmother can choose to provide financial support if she is able. In speaking with Magareth I expressed my gratitude for our friendship which is not based on my financial status. She replied, “Wi zanmim, mwen ak Danyel pa renmen pou lajan ou men se paske ou renmen moun bò kote ou.” Which translates to, “Yes, my friend, Daniel and I don’t love you for your money but because you love those around you.” I was deeply touched by her words. What a blessing it is to be called by God to live alongside these people. Y amarás a tu prójimo… "Si no tengo amor, no soy nada".
