May 10, 2015—Sixth Sunday of Easter (Mother’s Day)
Prayer to the Mother of the Lord for all Mothers
Mary, on this day when we honor all mothers, we
turn to you . We thank the Lord, whom you serve,
for the great gift of motherhood. Never has it been
known that anyone who sought your intercession
was left unaided by grace. Dear Mother, thank you
for your “Yes” to the invitation of the angel which
brought heaven to earth and changed human history. You opened yourself to God’s word and the
Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.
Dear Mother, intercede for all of our mothers. Ask
your Divine Son to give them the grace of surrendered love so that they could join with you in giving
their own “Fiat.” May they find daily strength to
say yes to the call to the sacrificial love-the very
heart of the vocation of motherhood. May their
love and witness be a source of great inspiration for
all of us called to follow your Son.
On this Mothers Day, Mother of the Word Incarnate, pray for us who have recourse to you.
Amen.

2015 Bishop’s Annual Appeal
Update
In asking for support of this year’s
appeal, Bishop Burbidge said, “Each
year, parishes across the Diocese seek
to carry out the teaching of Christ by
participating in the BAA. When we
reach out to serve the poor and defenseless in society, we are putting
our faith into action, by caring for
those in need through charity….
When we open the door of faith to
others to know and love God, we are
becoming joy-filled witnesses in
bringing others to Christ through
evangelization…. And when we
nourish and strengthen our faith
through the Holy Eucharist, we participate fully in the worship and celebration of the cross, aligning our suffering and those of others with
Christ. I encourage each of us to reflect upon the gifts God has given to
our families over the past year and
pray for discernment and guidance in
determining our pledge for this year’s
appeal.”
I want to thank all those who have
contributed to the 2015 BAA. I continue to be overwhelmed by the generosity of many people in our community. A special thanks to Kevin
Bacon and all who helped organize,
support and conduct the campaign
this year. This type of work requires
hard work, patience and lots of hope.
Thanks for Kevin’s leadership.
Here is a brief summary of key stats
and information as of gifts entered by
Wednesday, April 29th:
•
23,860 donors have pledged over
$6.558 million to the BAA. This
is 91.22% of the overall goal of
$7,189,931.

Landings, A Program to Bring
Catholics Home…
Did you know that there are as many
fallen away Catholics in our community as there are attending Mass every
weekend? Landings is a ministry to
help bring our family of Catholics
home. There will be a gathering on
Sunday, June 14th after the 10:00AM
Mass in the 8th grade classroom for
those who are already part of this
ministry as well as those who may be
interested in helping. This is an opportunity to make a difference in
someone’s life. We promise that your
commitment will not be extensive but
can make a real difference. And if you
happen to know someone who has
not been to church in a while let us
know by calling the Parish Office so
we can invite them to come home.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word..
Will hold its final gathering for this
season on May 17. We will break for
the summer and begin again in September. Thank you for another wonderful year of sharing God’s word
with our children. Parents, please
prayerfully consider assisting with
this ministry next year. We need
more help to continue the program.
No formal training is needed. Please
contact Ryan or Alycia Smith for details.

Ever Wonder Why .... ? (Part II)
Why is it... that when a woman is
happy about her pregnancy, it's a
"baby"? She is asked questions like,
"when is your baby due?" When she
goes to an abortion clinic, she is often
told that "it" (the growing child) is
only a blob of tissue or a product of
conception?
Why is it... so many people are uninformed about abortion and it receives
so little coverage in the media, despite
the fact that it is the number-one
cause of death in the US every year.
Why is it... that you can kill an unborn baby anytime you want to, for
any reason under the sun, but if you
destroy a turtle egg on a Florida
beach, you go to jail?
Why is it." if abortion is supposed to
be available to give a woman a
"choice", that illegal coercion is the
number-one cause of abortion in
America today? Also, the number-one
cause of death among pregnant women is murder.
Why is it. .. that many do not see the
handwriting on the wall. .. that abortion is a catalyst to infanticide, euthanasia, assisted suicide, human cloning
etc. only to name a few contemporary
assaults on the sanctity of human life?
Why is it... that the major Fortune
500 companies will proudly support
Planned Parenthood, the largest provider of abortion, but pro-life companies are scared to death to openly support the unborn, for fear of retribution
in the marketplace?
Why is it... that when a priest gives a
pro-life homily he is accused of being
too political, when abortion is clearly
a vitally important moral issue and a
violation of the Fifth Commandment?
Why is it... that in every election cycle, God-fearing citizens cast their
vote for politicians who support abortion when we know that the greatest
gift God gives us is life and the greatest attack on life is abortion?

Happy Mother’s Day!
“for nothing will be impossible for
God.” Luke 1:37
A Letter from our Pastor
Happy Mothers’ Day,
Motherhood is a high calling. What
can replace the love of a mother and
a grandmother? The love, guidance
and influence they provide to their
children are distinct and invaluable.
All mothers who wish to be true to
their high calling need only look to
the woman who became the greatest
mother of all. Born into humble surroundings, she was called by God to
be the mother of the Son of God.
I am very grateful for the hard work
and dedication of the women in every single parish that I have been assigned to. No matter where I
have been as a seminarian or as a
priest, I have always seen the promise of Jesus fulfilled: "And everyone
who has left houses, brothers, sisters,
father, mother, children or land for
the sake of my name will be repaid a
hundred times over, and also inherit
eternal life" (Matthew 19: 29).
Concretely, not only have many dedicated women assisted me in my
ministry as a priest, I have also been
adopted by many spiritual mothers
and many spiritual sisters that have
always taken very good care of me.
On this beautiful day dedicated to
motherhood, we must contemplate
the reality that God is love that that
love is always shown through the
face of a loving mother. My prayer is
that the Holy Spirit keep renewing
the hearts of our mothers so they can
live out their calling to motherhood
with a deeper and more generous
love within the daily circumstances
of their lives.
Blessings to all natural and spiritual
mothers!
Happy Mothers' Day.

¿Por qué…cuando una mujer está feliz
por su embarazo…s por un bebé? A ella
a prisión?

los he llamado amigos" (Juan 15:15).
