grupos.
Atentamente,

Petition by Civil Society Organizations and Citizens of the United States, Colombia, and the Americas:
Give Afro-Colombian and Indigenous Peoples a Voice at the Peace Table
Dear Delegates of the Colombian Government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia–People’s Army (FARC-EP)
at the Negotiating Table for an End to the Conflict and the Construction of a Stable and Lasting Peace in Colombia,
We strongly support the construction of a just and lasting peace in Colombia with truth, justice, reparations and the
guarantee that the past will not be repeated. To construct this peace requires listening to and incorporating the views of a
broad range of the countless victims of this brutal conflict. In fact, among the operating rules of the accord’s mechanisms is
the assurance that special importance will be given to including "the widest possible participation" of citizenship and the
most "comprehensive and pluralistic proposals" at the negotiating table. The space created for groups of victims and
organizations of women to present their views to the peace table are steps towards that goal.
We urge you to take the next step in fulfilling this promise by directly considering the collective proposals of the AfroColombian and indigenous peoples who have been disproportionately affected by the conflict. These groups have a
profound stake in the construction and implementation of these peace accords and would enrich the dialogue immensely.
For the implementation of peace, truth, justice and reparations to be just and lasting, Afro-Colombian and indigenous
leaders must be heard. Thank you for your attention and consideration of the proposals set forth by these groups.
Sincerely,
The Signatories Below

The Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA)

“Afro-Columbians MUST be allowed to protect

beautiful African people who bring so much value

“The perspective of indigenous people will be
helpful, as well as crucial to achieving a lasting
peace based on justice. You know that everyone
needs to be fairly represented in these
negotiations, so why not welcome it?”

If not now, when? Si no es ahora, cuando? If not
for peace, for what? Si no es por paz, por que
entonces? El gobierno colombiano tiene la
obligación de facilitar a cualquier precio el
alcance de la paz. De verdad. De una vez por
todas. Como lo han podido hacer otros países. No
\ The Colombian
government has the obligation to facilitate peace
at all costs. Truly. Once and for all. As other
countries have been able to do. Not just giving lip
service to its people and the world as it has been
the case since 1948. It must facilitate and
promote this process without interfering or
allowing others to interfere as it has happened so
far. The Colombian government cannot continue
behaving like the spoiled bully of the family bent
on having it all his way, and only protecting those
who already have it all. It is time for it to behave
like a sensible adult and begin to seek the wellbeing of his brothers and sisters, the people. As
such, without the people’s representation in this
process, there cannot be lasting peace, but
endless harassment, destruction and death. We
have all lost and we will continue to lose without
that peace.

“It is vital that Afro-Colombian and Indigenous
Communities have significant presence and
representation in the Peace process!!! These
negotiations affect the whole country, so these
autonomous communities must be enabled to
protect their lifeplans. Their presence and
wisdom would also benefit everyone.”

“I am so very happy for the people of Columbia,
but I urge you, don't allow half measures to forge
a half peace. I could go on, but I won't. All I will
say is is please, please, please make room at the
table for everyone.”
