For our church, it’s the grand beginning of the super bowl of getting funds to a broad range of Services throughout our vast archdiocese. It’s our annual DSF (Diocesan Services Fund) Commitment weekend. While it’s the 50th Super Bowl, it’s also coincidentally the 50th anniversary of the DSF – a half century of sharing and caring which was started by Bishop Morkovsky in 1966. Did you know that the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston is one of the largest social service providers in Texas? The Diocesan Services Fund supports 60-plus ministries which offer specialized children’s services, faith formation, support to the clergy, housing programs, pro-life activities, social service, sacramental preparation, health services, religious education, refugee and immigration programs, and countless other ministries serving those in need. This year’s Archdiocesan Goal is set at $ 13,976,150.00. Each parish that comprises this large Archdiocese has its DSF goal depending on its size in order to attain the yearly budget. Our parish goal this year is $ 52,000.00. Remember this is a yearlong campaign. We may give our support at one time or make a pledge and fulfill it in an installment basis through the year. While we are all aware of the fact that the lifeblood of our parish church is our weekly contributions, we need to be reminded that the lifeblood of the various programs and services of the Archdiocese is this yearly DSF campaign. I am so grateful for the generous people of our parish that keep our church going and had consistently participated in this DSF campaign that we always meet our goal. I only beg those who have not yet participated to get involved - even a token of your kindness is very much welcome. Pope Francis in this jubilee year, “The Holy Year of Mercy”, asks us to live in the light of Jesus’ words “Be merciful, just as your Father in Heaven is merciful.” Mercy is born from love. Through our participation in acts of mercy, we stay connected with one another. The Diocesan Services Fund Program is a visible manifestation of our connectedness as members of the Mystical Body of Christ on earth – the Church. I encourage everyone to proclaim the enduring mercy of God by considering a generous gift for this 2016 DSF appeal. Once again, I express profound appreciation to all who consistently given to this yearly campaign. It’s wonderful and would be easy for us to meet our parish goal if we have more others to participate. Blessings to you and have a good week! Fr. Padre Tony ST. Feb. 17 In this sturdy, we will walk through the main parts of the Mass—from the opening Sign of the Cross to the concluding “Thanks be to God” - and consider then in light of their scriptural background. Along the way, we will discover many beautiful spiritual treasures. For the prayers and rituals of the Mass, when understood biblically, offer much inspiration, encouragement, and practical help for our lives as Christians/ As we will see, the prayers of the Mass challenge us to examine our consciences, repent of our sins, and experience God’s loving mercy. They also remind us of God’s presence with us amid our fears, trials, and sufferings. They can inspire us to live marriages, family lives, and friendships with greater love and summon us to entrust more of our lives to Jesus. Most of all, this study will help us encounter Our Lord more deeply in the liturgy itself. By understanding the meaning of what we say and do in the Mass, we will be better prepared to give ourselves to Jesus in every prayer and gesture in the liturgy. Please sign up as soon as possible, if you are interested, so we are able to order the correct amount of supplies. (Class Cost $20.) FEBRUARY 7, 2016 Garland of Mercy... In this Jubilee Year, we are asked to open our eyes and hearts to see how God is working in our lives and to more actively spread His mercy out to others. We are creating a Garland of Mercy with our teen group to bear witness to our efforts to help others. For the entire year, we are asking each week when you do works of mercy, to write down one or more works on the strips of paper in the ends of the pews. Please put them into the collection basket so that we offer up, not just our treasure to the Lord, but our time and talent in a visible way. Red Strips are for The Corporal Works of Mercy: feeding the hungry, clothing the needy, visiting the sick or imprisoned. White Strips are for The Spiritual Works of Mercy: Counseling the doubtful, bearing wrongs patiently, forgiving offences willingly and praying for the living and the dead. Gold Ones are for the acts of mercy which we received from others. I know that all of you are part of spreading God’s mercy out into the world. Please take the time to become more conscious of it and take credit for it here before the Lord. Classes Today 8:45 & 11:15 Can You Help???
