 AN INVITATION FROM THE PASTOR 
8 MARCH 2015
As Pastor of Our Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church in Freeport, I want anyone and everyone who calls
Our Holy Redeemer “home” to know how much I appreciate your participation in the offering of time, talent,
and treasure that helps make coming home what it’s all about! Christ is present in that offering, and through
Him, with Him, and in Him “we the people” gathered, pursue our desire to live the Gospel message and share
it!
The Gospel lived and shared by believers like you, has allowed the celebration and vibrancy of Christ’s Real
Presence in the Blessed Sacrament to be experienced by people where everywhere It is taken. In a very real
sense, your faith proclaims the Real Presence of Christ in Word and Sacrament to the world!
Every year during the Holy Season of Lent, Our Holy Redeemer offers anyone and
everyone a Mission to help enrich that proclamation. This year, Father William Fickel
S.S.S., of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament has been invited to show us the
Way to enrichment through what he is calling “three Eucharistic days”
(16 March – 18 March); designed to engage you at the very depth of your spirit, where
you will grow in your appreciation of the great Mysterium Fidei/Mystery of Faith and
discover new ways of bringing the Real Presence of Jesus into your daily life.
16 March/The First Day: Eucharist – as the means of encountering God’s love for us. Our lives
become lonely when love is not there. The Eucharist feeds the hunger of the heart. Times of
prayer help us to cultivate a receptive attitude of attentiveness and quiet listening to the inner
voice. The Holy Spirit separates us from our separateness and leads us to divine union. We
evangelize best through a prayer that gives people a sense of being united in God’s love.
17 March/The Second Day: Eucharist – God’s love in the healing power of Jesus Christ to enliven
our lives. The celebration of the Eucharist embraces the suffering of humanity with compassion
and a power to awaken our hearts in God’s mercy. The forgiveness of God is poured upon us.
Our lives are transformed by the Holy Spirit to become the living Body of Christ in the world. We
evangelize by witnessing to the sufferings of Christ healing a suffering humanity.
18 March/The Third Day: Eucharist – God’s love in the Mission of Jesus Christ. Having shared in
Holy Communion we are sent on our way as disciples of Christ. We are entrusted to be agents of
communion by sharing our lives completely with others. Christ showed His love in humble service
of others. Such actions of communion evangelize others to believe in the love of Jesus.
These three days focusing on the Eucharist offer a unique opportunity for us to
come together and be blessed by the transforming power of the Spirit. Our
celebration of Eucharist remains incomplete until we begin to experience how to
live a Eucharistic lifestyle. Saint Augustine taught, “You hear the words, ‘the
Body of Christ’ and respond ‘Amen.’ Be then a member of the Body of Christ
that your Amen may be true.” [St. Augustine, Sermon 272] so please save the
dates (16 March – 18 March) and plan to attend these days of communal prayer
and spiritual enrichment through which our parish, even during this Holy Season
of Lent, will share the experience of the disciples on the road to Emmaus as they
listened to the Scriptures explained to them and said; “Were not our hearts
burning within us as He spoke to us on the way?” I hope you will set aside the
time to take part in the Spread the Eucharistic Fire Everywhere Mission!
NOW A WORD FROM OUR SAINTS
(ABOUT THE FAMILY)
APOSTOLIC EXHORTATION
FAMILIARIS CONSORTIO
OF POPE JOHN PAUL II
TO THE EPISCOPATE
TO THE CLERGY AND TO THE FAITHFUL
OF THE WHOLE CATHOLIC CHURCH
ON THE ROLE OF THE CHRISTIAN FAMILY
IN THE MODERN WORLD
(22 November 1981)
PART THREE
THE ROLE OF THE CHRISTIAN FAMILY
IV - SHARING IN THE LIFE AND MISSION OF THE CHURCH
The Family, Within the Mystery of the Church
49. Among the fundamental tasks of the Christian family is its ecclesial task: the family is placed at the service of the
building up of the Kingdom of God in history by participating in the life and mission of the Church.
In order to understand better the foundations, the contents and the characteristics of this participation, we must
examine the many profound bonds linking the Church and the Christian family and establishing the family as a "Church
in miniature" (Ecclesia domestica), in such a way that in its own way the family is a living image and historical
representation of the mystery of the Church.
It is, above all, the Church as Mother that gives birth to, educates and builds up the Christian family, by putting into
effect in its regard the saving mission which she has received from her Lord. By proclaiming the word of God, the
Church reveals to the Christian family its true identity, what it is and should be according to the Lord's plan; by
celebrating the sacraments, the Church enriches and strengthens the Christian family with the grace of Christ for its
sanctification to the glory of the Father; by the continuous proclamation of the new commandment of love, the Church
encourages and guides the Christian family to the service of love, so that it may imitate and relive the same self-giving
and sacrificial love that the Lord Jesus has for the entire human race.
In turn, the Christian family is grafted into the mystery of the Church to such a degree as to become a sharer, in its own
way, in the saving mission proper to the Church: by virtue of the sacrament, Christian married couples and parents "in
their state and way of life have their own special gift among the People of God." For this reason they not only receive
the love of Christ and become a saved community, but they are also called upon to communicate Christ's love to their
brethren, thus becoming a saving community. In this way, while the Christian family is a fruit and sign of the
supernatural fecundity of the Church, it stands also as a symbol, witness and participant of the Church's motherhood.

NEWS FROM THE DE LA SALLE SCHOOL
(516) 379-8660
Just the other day Emil, the shortest of our fifth graders, was
heading to the snack closet during our Extended Day Program.
When questioned why he was in the corridor unsupervised he
responded that he had the teacher’s permission to procure an alternative snack. It
seems that the treat being offered that afternoon was a packet of peanut butter
crackers and Emil had given them up for Lent! It was great to see a ten year old
internalize the Lenten challenge to change and to alter his life accordingly.
Our daily cash donations are benefitting a fellow Lasallian school in Nakuru,
Kenya. The students of The De La Salle School have located that ministry on a
map and learned that it is eight time zones away. During a recent Morning
Assembly they viewed photos of the students, their school buildings, and their
surroundings. We are in communication with Brother Antoine, the Headmaster, in
an attempt to establish a Skype connection so we can see and speak with the
students in Kenya.
The eighth grade is taking advantage of the 9:00 A.M. daily Mass in Our Holy
Redeemer Church during Lent and at least one day a week they are joining the
congregation in prayer. This past week they invited their fifth grade buddies to join
them. It was an impressive act of leadership and witness that Emil and his
classmates experienced.
Lent is moving along well as fasting, almsgiving, and prayer find their way into the
fabric of the life of The De La Salle School.

SCRIPTURE REFLECTION
In today’s Gospel we listen to a private conversation between the Lord and “a woman of
Samaria” who “came to draw water.” (See John 4, 5-42) As we meditate on their
conversation we realize that we are this Samaritan woman, that we too have need for
Living Water. As Jesus calls the woman at the well to a new and greater reality He likewise
calls us. As Jesus requests a drink of water, He is actually inviting her and us to reflect on
the meaning of our lives and asking all of us to consider something greater than she or we
had ever thought of before. Do you thirst for Living Water? Do you thirst for something
more, something far greater than what the world can give you? Then, use this Holy Season
of Lent to truly look for The Source of Living Water by Praying, Fasting and Giving Alms! You
will be truly satisfied and will be helping others to be likewise! The beautiful words of Isaiah
remind us that He loves us and calls us. ‘You who are thirsty come to the water and drink’
(See Isaiah 55, 1)

FAITH AND THE ROMAN MISSAL
WHEN YOU PRAY/WHEN YOU FAST/WHEN YOU GIVE ALMS
WHEN YOU PRAY
The Missale Romanum/Roman Missal, the official “prayer book” of the Church, has become very popular
amongst parishioners of Our Holy Redeemer in Freeport. Young men discerning vocations to the Priesthood
and others, have purchased copies of the Roman Missal in their quest to grow in holiness with the help of the
very same prayers that men and women before them have offered enroute to becoming Saints; which should
be the goal of every one of us.
For those of you who have not purchased your own copy of the Roman Missal, this week’s Sunday Bulletin
regular feature: Faith and the Roman Missal, provides some of the Roman Missal Prayers that will help you to
grow in holiness and to belong more deeply to the Mass; prayers that the Priest and the people are supposed
to pray together during Mass.
Please, as you leave church today, take a bulletin with you and as part of your journey to Easter this Lent, offer
the Roman Missal-Prayers (or in today’s case “the Creed”) with your family so that you will look forward to
celebrating the Resurrection, not just on Easter, but every Sunday of the year!
THE CREED
I believe in one God, the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial
with the Father;
Through Him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
He came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate
of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.
For our sake He was crucified
under Pontius Pilate,
He suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and His kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
Who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
Who with the Father and the Son
is adored and glorified,
Who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic,
and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection
of the dead and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
The Roman Missal is the book containing the prescribed prayers, chants, and instructions for the celebration of Mass in the Roman
Catholic Church. Published first in Latin under the title Missale Romanum, the text is then translated and, once approved by
a recognitio by the Vatican Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, is published in modern
languages for use in local churches throughout the world.
During the Holy Season of Lent, let us pray for
the Canonization of
Venerable Father Anthony Vincent Gallo
so that he may in turn give our Christian brethren in Iraq
the heroic virtue to endure their plight.
“O Most Holy Trinity, Who deigned to raise Venerable Anthony Vincent Gallo
to the Priesthood, and endowed him with precious gifts, especially a burning love
for suffering and immolation, we humbly beseech You, if it be Your Will, that
he may be glorified on earth, and that we may obtain through his intercession
the particular grace (heroic virtue for Christian Iraqis) which we
are asking for with living faith. Amen.
Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA) was founded by the Holy Father to share the love of Christ with the poor
and the churches in the East. Your prayers and generous financial support will help Pope Francis to build up the church,
affirm human dignity, alleviate poverty, encourage dialogue and inspire hope. Thank you!

What do you do when inclement weather or sickness prevents you from attending Sunday Mass at Our Holy
Redeemer, or family/business obligations take you to Sunday Mass somewhere other than Our Holy Redeemer?
More than likely, if you use Parish Envelopes to make your offering, you will place “Sunday-missed” envelopes in the
Offertory basket the next time you attend Mass. If you don’t use envelopes, it is more than likely that your Sundaymissed offering will remain missing. It is not that you intentionally choose to give Our Holy Redeemer less, it’s just
hard to intentionally give to Our Holy Redeemer what you think is more. “Stop thinking”; use envelopes or use
E-Giving! E-Giving, like Offertory Envelopes (thank you for using them) provides you with a way of exercising faithful

¿He orado, ayunado y dado limosna a favor de CNEWA?
