ANOINTING OF THE SICK
The Anointing of the Sick is not a sacrament for those only
who are at the point of death. Hence, as soon as anyone of the
faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age,
the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly
already arrived. (CCC 1514)
If a person is in need of Anointing of the Sick, please call the
parish office for a priest at 602-242-1300.
If the parish office is closed and there is an immediate danger
of death, please call the after-hours emergency number at
602-246-3534. The after-hours number may only be used for life
and death emergencies.

remission of all temporal punishment due to sin. In

CATHEDRAL HOLY DOORS
On December 13, 2015 Bishop Olmsted officially opened the
Holy Doors of Mercy here at the Cathedral. The doors are
marked with green garland and plaques explaining the
plenary indulgence. A plenary indulgence can be obtained by
walking through these doors along with meeting the
conditions for the indulgence listed below. These doors will
remain open until November 20, 2016.
THE PLENARY INDULGENCE
Participants in the Year of Mercy can gain a plenary indulgence
for the Jubilee Year of Mercy, provided they meet the
following conditions:
· Be in the state of grace
· Have complete detachment from sin
· Pray for the Pope's intentions
· Confess their sins and receive Communion up to about 20
days before or after completing the other acts

FRIDAY ADORATION AND
CONFESSIONS
Every Friday during the Year of Mercy Ss. Simon and Jude
Cathedral will have Confessions and Adoration from
6PM-8PM. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed on the main
altar for adoration. Fr. Lankeit will be available to hear
Confessions and Bishop Olmsted will be available occasionally.
There will be occasional exceptions due to scheduling conflicts,
such as Friday of the Eucharistic Congress and Good Friday.

Bereavement Support group will meet on Jan.

to Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza for live music, and the
best line up of inspirational speakers in the nation,
including international speaker and abortion survivor

CLOSING MASS FOR
THE YEAR OF CONSECRATED LIFE
To be held on the Vigil of
The Feast of the Presentation
All are invited to join Bishops Olmsted & Nevares along with the
Religious, Priests and Deacons of the Diocese of Phoenix to
participate in the Closing Mass for the Year of Consecrated
Life on Monday, February 1st, 2016 at 6 p.m. at St. Mary’s
Basilica where there will be a Solemn Mass with the Blessing of
the Candles and a candlelit procession to honor the Light of the
World, Our Lord Jesus Christ.
There will be a reception following the Mass in the Hall of St.
Mary’s Basilica (downstairs). Please invite your friends and
family members.

In the Gospel today, at the wedding feast in Cana, Jesus reveals
himself to his disciples and they began to believe in him.
Everyday, God also gives us signs of his love and so we also can
respond in faith and trust.
Your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul becomes a sign of
God’s love to those who are suffering and you give them reason
to believe and to trust. We are always in need of your gifts
dropped into the Poor Box and also for the food items you bring
to church with you and drop into the SVdP Food Box in the rear
of the church. We need items such as spaghetti and spaghetti
sauce, peanut butter, rice and beans, mac and cheese, cereal,
tuna, canned meat, canned vegetables, canned beans or chili,
and also toilet paper. Thank you for remembering the poor as
you shop each week.
In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, let us always pass on the gift of
God’s mercy to the poor and needy, and may the Lord’s blessing
be upon you for your generosity.

PUERTAS SANTAS DE LA
CATEDRAL DE SAN SIMÓN Y

El 13 de diciembre del 2015, el Obispo Olmsted abrió
oficialmente las Puertas Santas de la Misericordia aquí en la
Catedral. Las puertas están marcadas con guirnalda verde y
cuadros los cuales explican la indulgencia plenaria. Una
indulgencia plenaria puede obtenerse caminando a través de
estas puertas, junto con el cumplimiento de las condiciones
para la indulgencia descritas a continuación. Estas puertas
permanecerán abiertas hasta el 20 de noviembre del 2016.
LA INDULGENCIA PLENARIA
Los participantes en el Año de la Misericordia pueden obtener

en nuestro estado en el centro de Phoenix para la
Marcha y el Rally por la Vida en Arizona, un evento que
celebra y aboga por la belleza y dignidad de toda
vida humana.
Nos reuniremos a las 11:00 de la mañana y la Marcha
por la Vida comenzara a las 11:30 am. El Rally por la
Vida será de 12:30 a 2:00 de la tarde. Los conferencistas
incluyen a Gianna Jessen, sobreviviente de un aborto y
defensor de la vida cuya historia inspiro la película
“October Baby”. Habrá música, camiones de comida en

En el Evangelio de hoy, en la boda de Caná, Jesús
manifestó su gloria y sus discípulos creyeron en él. Cada día,

convierte en una señal del amor de Dios para los que

y coloca en la Caja de Comida de SVdP en la parte
posterior de la Iglesia. Necesitamos artículos tales como
espagueti y salsa de espagueti, mantequilla de maní, arroz
y frijoles, macarrón con queso, cereal, atún, carne enlatada,
verduras enlatadas, chili o frijoles enlatados, así como papel
higiénico. Gracias por acordarse de los pobres mientras va
de compras cada semana.
En este Año Jubiloso de la Misericordia, transmitamos
siempre el don de la misericordia de Dios a los pobres y
necesitados, y que la bendición del Señor caiga sobre
ustedes por su generosidad.
LA CAMPAÑA DE CARIDAD
