Weekly Faith Formation Classes for Children
Reaching
Others for
Christ’s
Kingdom
Classes are entering the sixth week of instruction. We have
been promoting and accepting registrations for classes since
April. If you have not yet registered your child, do so now.
Sunday classes are full, so please register for Wednesdays.
Forms are at the welcome desk and online for your convenience: www.saintanne.com.
We proudly announce
that the St. Anne Youth Group has an official name. The
CORE Team created four names and logos to choose from
and the 9-12 grade students voted on their favorite at the
Family Fun Night. Our new name is ROCK—Reaching
Others for Christ’s Kingdom. T-shirts are now being made
with our new logo.
Bible Study? What’s that?
This group meets weekly on Wednesday mornings from 1011:30am. We read and discuss the Sunday readings and are
digging into the Gospel of Mark this year, verse by verse! No
previous experience is necessary. In the words of a veteran
member of our Study: “The Scriptures come alive in how they
pertain to life today.” A rookie member shares: “Bible Study is
fascinating and thought-provoking! Yet, not intimidating—so
anyone should really enjoy joining us.”
The Power of Prayer: 9-12th Graders
The Power of Prayer has been moved to October 21st from
7:00-8:30pm in the Religion Room.
Sunday Morning F.U.E.L.
Sacraments for Adults!
Are you a baptized Catholic adult who has never been Confirmed or who has not made First Communion? It’s never too
late!
All 9-12 grade students are invited to come and engage in
lively discussions about our Faith: Sundays 10:30am12:30pm in the Religion Room. (F.U.E.L will not meet
Oct. 26th.)
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults
Need Service Hours?
If you interested in becoming Catholic or are a spouse of a
Catholic… if you are a “returning Catholic” … if you are curious about how a person becomes a Catholic… or if you know
someone who is… We hold meetings to help you in your journey towards Catholicism. These meetings are ongoing and the
process is tailored to your individual needs.

parents of children. The USCCB has
developed a simple, practical website
for parents: https://faithandsafety.org.
Internet safety isn't about the right software or service. Real safety in the digital world is all about active, involved, loving parenting. Check
out this website for help in building a strong Christian family!

STEWARDSHIP
“Active Parishioner” is determined by three things:
●Being properly registered in the parish—faithfully attending Mass on the weekends and Holy Days of Obligation
●Regularly supporting the parish by using any identifiable donation (such as envelope system, loose check, or electronic donation)
●Being active in at least one parish program, ministry, or organization.

A Gift
Time and Talent
Sacrificial Giving flows out of an understanding that everything we are and have is a gift from God. When we give a portion of our time, talent, and money, we are expressing our
commitment to this reality. Our baptism reminds us of our new
life in Christ. We are called to be a witness to this new life 24
hours a day—in our home, neighborhood and job. By giving a
portion of our time, talent and money and by making it visible
to ourselves and to others, we continually remind ourselves of
this reality.
When we consider our participation in Sacrificial Giving, we
need to include our time and talent as well as our money. Just
as in giving money, giving time and talent expresses our gratitude to God who has given us these gifts. Our gifts of money
do not substitute for gifts of time and talent. Neither do time
and talent substitute for giving of financial resources. All are
gifts from God. As you make your decision about the portion
of income you will give this year to your parish, consider as
well what you will give of your time and talent.

THIS WEEK- Mission Sunday
Your prayers and donations will help support churches, hospitals, schools and vocations in countries where the Church is
beginning and where it is new. By sharing the gift of faith and
your contributions towards promoting it, we can bring hope
and love to those who need it most.
NEXT WEEK - No Second Collection
This year’s St. Anne Festival
was a huge success! There
seemed to be an invisible
bubble around us protecting us
from the bad weather (thank
you for all your prayers!) But, the main reason for its success
is the hard work and effort of the volunteers. The Festival
could not have taken place without the year-round efforts of
the Festival Committee. Many of them have committed to stay
on and start preparations for our next Festival in September
2015. If you enjoyed this year’s events, and want the Festival
to continue, think how much more fun you will have when
you join the committee of fun-loving, dedicated, dynamic, and
committed parishioners. Please consider donating your time
and talent in this fun and rewarding ministry. Call Pat Fedele
in the parish office (372-5864) to discuss this opportunity to
serve, or join us on November 13 at 6:30pm in the Family Life
Center for an organizational meeting. Fun, fun, fun!
Stewardship and the Saints
Saint Luke, the Evangelist, didn’t limit
his writings on stewardship to prayer. He
also offers a sophisticated theology of
stewardship and discipleship as they relate to wealth and sharing one’s possessions. Luke has a specific interest in stewardship and his treatment of “almsgiving”
was radical. Luke urged wealthy Christians in his community to be mindful of
their stewardship responsibilities as it
pertained to their spiritual lives, their
community, and to the poor. His feast day
is October 18.

SYNOD NEWS
The bishops meeting at the Vatican to discuss family matters in
a pastoral context have released a message focusing on families
who suffer as a result of the world's conflicts, notably in Syria
and Iraq. The Vatican Information Service (VIS) has issued
the full text of the message of the Third Extraordinary General
Assembly of the Synod of Bishops:
"Gathered around the Successor of the Apostle Peter, we the
Synod Fathers of the Third Extraordinary General Assembly
of the Synod of Bishops, along with all participants, share
the paternal concern of the Holy Father, expressing our
profound closeness to all the families who suffer as a
consequence of the many conflicts in progress.
In particular, we raise to the Lord our prayers for
Iraqi and Syrian families, forced on account of their profession
of the Christian faith or their belonging to other ethnic or
religious communities, to abandon everything and flee towards
a future without any form of certainty.
We join with the Holy Father Francis in emphasizing that
no-one may use the name of God to commit violence,
and that to kill in the name of God is a grave sacrilege.
SAHS Freshmen meeting with SC State Senator Wes Hayes
Senator Hayes visited SAS for a special prayer service on
October 6th. Our freshman class had the privilege of showing
Senator Hayes our new science lab during his brief visit.
Offering thanks to International Organizations and Countries
for their solidarity, we invite persons of good will to offer
the necessary assistance and aid to the innocent victims
of the current barbarism, and at the same time we implore
the international community to act to re-establish peaceful
co-existence in Iraq, in Syria, and in all the Middle East.
Is St. Anne High School right for you?
An informational meeting is planned for Tuesday, October 28 th
at 6:30pm at St. Anne School. Students in 7th and 8th grade (and
parents of these students) are invited to attend. Come and hear
about our inaugural class! Come and be a part of this story!
Questions? [email protected].
Equally, our thoughts go to those families that are torn apart
and suffering in other parts of the world, and who suffer
persistent violence. We wish to assure them of our constant
prayer that the Lord may convert hearts and bring peace
and stability to those who are now in need.
May the Holy Family of Nazareth, which suffered on the painful
road of exile make every family a community of love and
reconciliation a source of hope for the whole world”.

Virtue for the Month of October: Mercy
St. Anne School’s goal this year—and all years—is to create
and foster a living Culture of Kindness. Part of the way the SAS
family builds virtue into the very fabric of its community is by
dedicating a particular virtue to each month of the school year.
October’s virtue is MERCY. The monthly virtue is explored and
reinforced throughout the month in a variety of ways—whether
at the weekly school Mass, during Morning Prayer, by being
built into course lessons and projects, or through a Virtue Card
reward system for students who have exemplified the virtue in
an outstanding way. Because, “Kindness is cool at St. Anne
School.”

Faith’s call to political responsibility and gives Catholics a voice
in shaping our state laws. Activities include:
 A legislative briefing on policy issues affecting human life
and dignity
 Pre-scheduled meetings with elected officials
 Group photos of each diocesan delegation with their bishop
 A breakfast for Catholic Days participants with the Bishop
of Charleston and legislators

October 19th WORLD MISSION Sunday
World Mission Sunday, organized by the Propagation of the
Faith, is a day set aside for Catholics worldwide to recommit
themselves to the Church’s missionary activity through prayer
and sacrifice. Annually, World Mission Sunday is celebrated on
the next-to-last Sunday in October. As described by Pope Saint
John Paul II, World Mission Sunday is “an important day in the
life of the Church because it teaches how to give: as an offeringmade to God, in the Eucharistic celebration and for all the missions of the world” (see Redemptoris Missio 81).
