The third Sunday of Advent makes us feel really excited about the coming of the newborn. The time is quite near! Rejoice! Notice that the readings this Sunday used the word rejoice emphatically. That explains why this Sunday is called Gaudete. Gaudete means rejoice. Why does the celebration calls for rejoicing? The Lord is near and He is coming without delay. When He comes, there is peace, justice, happiness and love. o0o We love to sing Christmas carols. When I was a boy, I wanted to join the kids my age to sing Christmas carols. I saw they had so much fun when they sing Christmas carols to our neighbors. I wanted to experience that joy. One time my younger siblings had convinced our parents to allow us join our friends. They agreed provided we will not go beyond than two blocks and we should be home not later than 8:00 o’clock. We earned a little less than ten pesos and some chocolates that evening. The experience was absolutely great. The gifts we received were a bonus to the already fun-filled experience. Here’s the real fun. Two days after the experience, we were insistent to go singing Christmas carols again. Unfortunately, our parents did not feel very positive about us going. So I thought it is alright. But a plan was made in my mind. When I get the chance, I will sneak-out and go by myself. The temptation was so high because I thought of the ten pesos. If I go by myself and earn ten pesos, I will be able to buy myself a gift! The opportunity came. One night I was sent to my grandma’s house to do an errand. Well I did not go straight to her house. I went from one neighbor to the other on my way to grandma’s. It did not turn-out good. There were few houses who did not even dare to open their door for me. And remember I was expecting to earn 10 pesos. Well, what turned-out to be at least one peso per house was a quarter. Lesson: It is expensive to give one caroler a peso. I finished with one peso and fifty centavos in my hands. It was fun though. And oh, the bonus: I was scolded for taking so long. o0o Another fun thing during Christmas preparation is to make the Christmas list. Honestly I do not know how to make a Christmas list until high school. In the Home Economics class, our teacher taught us how. I was pretty uneasy making the list because I know I will be unrealistic. Well they say there’s no limit to making wishes and imaginations. So I put anything that crossed my mind. And I did the list to comply with the requirement. Well talking about the Christmas list, do you write what gives you joy? Here’s what I have found: Christmas List Buy be presents Wrap gifts someone in a hug Send gifts love Shop for Donate food Make cookies peace See be the lights Gaudete Domingo. He aquí la verdadera diversión. Comprar estar presentes 2. Envuelve regalos a alguien con un abrazo 3. Enviar regalos amor 4. Haga compras mejor dona alimentos 5. Hacer galletas de la paz 6.
