The Gospel in Stone: A Brief Introduction to Church Architecture What do our buildings say about our beliefs? On October 18 and October 25, Mark Ethun, an architect, historic preservationist, and IHM parishioner, will be leading a two-part series on church architecture. The first part will cover church architecture in general, and the second part will look at IHM specifically. These events will take place in between the morning Masses (10:15-11:15). Scripture Study: Thursday mornings and evenings Each Thursday, Dr. Louanne Bachner leads an informative and prayerful discussion of the lectionary readings for the following Sunday. These classes meet in the Lower Level at two different times: 9:30 a.m. or 7:00 p.m. There is no registration required and no fees to participate. Feel free to join the group as your schedule permits. Love is our Mission: The Family Fully Alive Coming Soon! Last weekend thousands of families from around the world gathered with Pope Francis in Philadelphia. What were they talking about? Come find out later this year, when we discuss Love is Our Mission, the short book specifically prepared for that historic occasion. Stay tuned for more details. What is Liturgy of the Word for Children? The Liturgy of the Word for Children offers children, ages 4-7, the opportunity to hear God’s Word in an accessible and engaging format. They listen to the scriptures, say the Creed, and offer their prayers in language appropriate to their age -level. We offer the Children’s Liturgy at 9:00 and 11:30 Mass throughout the school year. No registration is required; simply send your children forward when the priest or deacon calls them. Adults are welcome in the Children’s Liturgy too! If you are interested in helping with this ministry, please contact Drew Denton ([email protected]). Are You Called to be a Catechist? We always welcome new catechists to help teach at all age levels. If you would like to help others understand and live their faith more fully, please consider one of the following opportunities: Adult Faith Formation (Sundays, 10:15-11:15; other times, as announced) Middle School Youth Ministry (Wednesday nights, 7:00-8:30) High School Youth Ministry (Sunday afternoons, 3:00-4:30) Elementary Age--G.I.F.T. Program (Saturdays, 2:00-3:30 or Sundays, 10:15-11:15) Liturgy of the Word for Children (During 9:00 or 11:30 Mass) Contact Drew Denton or Alicia Guerrero for more information on how to get involved. At the 9:00 and 1:30 Masses this weekend, we call forward two special groups of people: those who wish to join the order of catechumens, and those who wish to be recognized as candidates. Catechumens are the adults and older children who desire to be baptized and fully initiated into the Church this Easter. Candidates are those adults and older children who are already united with us by baptism—either in the Catholic Church or in other Christian churches—but now wish to come into full communion with the Church, receiving the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. These catechumens and candidates have come to us by many different paths, from a variety of different backgrounds. We thank God for leading them this far by faith, and we ask that he will continue to guide them along their journey. Please welcome them, pray for them, and help them learn the Catholic way of life. May we all follow their example in choosing to accept the cross of Christ. Our gifts help the charitable works of the Archdiocese AND they help our parish. If you have not already made a pledge to the 2015 AAA, please visit http://appeal.archatl.com to make your pledge today! Thank you to all who have already pledged! Today’s second collection is a combination of three national second collections; World Missions, the Church in Latin America, and the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. We are called to this Eucharistic celebration – along with Catholics in every parish, chapel and church throughout the world – to recommit ourselves to the call we heard at Baptism, to share our faith, to be missionaries. Let us pray at this Mass for all who long to hear the hope-filled, life-giving message of Jesus’ love and salvation. Let us offer generous financial help in support of the service of priests, religious and lay catechists throughout the world. Please be extra generous as this collection will be divided between three very important needs.
