You may also contact someone from the Eucharistic Apostles of Divine Mercy who will pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy or other prayers with you. Please call Lillian Pente at 843-705-7170 The apostle Paul was absolutely certain the love of God would find us no matter what happened and that if we had any role model and ancestor in faith, it was Abraham. The stories are familiar. Abraham left his ancestral home to find a land promised him by a God who had only recently revealed himself. Abraham believed a child would come to him and Sarah, though both were old. Finally, he showed he would give everything in obedience to God when he was asked to sacrifice his beloved son, Isaac. This last story is troublesome to us. Would God require human sacrifice? We can understand this as a story of faith in two ways. The traditional interpretation is that God requires everything from us and wants nothing to come between us and our love of God. God’s “test” of Abraham is a test of obedience. Will we give our “all?” The second way of seeing the story begins with our understanding that many of the surrounding nations practiced child sacrifice. It may not have been a surprise when God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son, since his neighbors were doing it too. But at the critical moment, when the angel calls out to tell Abraham to stop, he does. The Lord wants a different relationship with his people. Abraham’s faith is shown as much in his obedience to the second order as to the first. God doesn’t want us to be just like everyone else. Rather, God wants us as his own people, following the path he carves for us— even if it means going against the tide. Mary Katharine Deeley [email protected] St. Gregory the Great Adoration Society “Could you not spend one hour with Me?” Eucharistic Adoration is adoring the Eucharistic Presence of Christ Our Perpetual Adoration Chapel gives us an opportunity to spend an hour of prayer and give thanks for the many blessings we have received. This hour in peace and meditation with the Blessed Sacrament can also be an opportunity to pray for our friends and family who are sick or just need our prayers. Christ instituted this Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist in order to remain with mankind until the end of time (Jn. 14:18). Our wish is to have someone present for each of the 24 hours throughout the day in silent contemplation and reflection. We can use more adorers for this ministry. Please be generous with your time and sign up for one hour of adoration If you have any questions or feel you can sign up for just one hour per week please call John Klinger 757-7454 or send an email to [email protected] ADORACIÓN SEGUNDO DOMINGO DE CUARESMA ESCUCHA Y SIGUE “Este es mi Hijo amado; escúchenlo”. —Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. March 7/8 Forward in Faith & Capital Needs PARISH LIFE 2015 Lenten Parish Mission Monday, March 23 through Wednesday March 25 Presenter: Father John Anglin, OFM The Theme of this year’s Parish Mission is Filling the World with the Gospel of Christ In a world torn by war, violence and injustice and in a Church dealing with scandal and declining membership, the call that came to Francis of Assisi 800 years - “Go, and rebuild My House” is as vital and timely today as it was in the thirteenth century world of Francis. This parish mission seeks to put that call before us and invites us to respond both as individuals and as Church. Monday Evening: God comes to us in humble love. We will look at Francis’ vision of a mighty and powerful God who came in humble love as one of us and likewise look at who we are in the light of this gift. Talks will center around two questions that St. Francis raised in prayer, “Who are you, O God? And Who Am I?” Tuesday Evening: The Cross: A gift of love and forgiveness We will look to Francis’ vision of the Crucified One as a gift of total love to humanity, at the perspective that Jesus did not come just to be punished but to give Himself in love no matter what the cost, a gift that was planned from the beginning of time. We will ask what might be our response to this gift. The evening will close with an examination of conscious in light of this reflection and an opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Wednesday Evening: The Cross: Source of meaning in our suffering We see today how we find healing for ourselves and the world. We look at questions of human suffering, God’s response and our response in light of the Franciscan vision of the Cross. The evening will close with either an anointing of the sick or non-sacramental laying of the hands and prayer for healing. Bereavement Group Are you grieving the loss of a loved one?
