Saint Eugene hosts the Wendell Council of Churches Pre-Thanksgiving Prayer Service with Council of Churches’ Choirs Sunday, November 22, 2015 at 7PM Please join us after the Prayer Service for a Reception in our Parish Hall The Power of a Simple Gift: 'Operation Christmas Child’ (OCC- The Shoe Box Ministry) is a 'global Christmas gift exchange' project by Samaritan's Purse, a non-denominational evangelical Christian humanitarian organization working worldwide to assist people in need. Each November OCC collects shoeboxes filled with toys, school supplies, personal items, and other gifts. These simple but powerful boxes are handed out in more than 130 countries bringing joy to many children in desperate need, who have little hope and many times even less love. Please help by packing on of these life-changing Shoe Boxes. Remember the work of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:33 where Jesus exemplifies the second great commandment of God. At this time of year and with that parable in mind, it is appropriate that we take part in this project by preparing a ShoeBox gift for a child in need. Your ShoeBox means more than just smiles and laughter; they open the door to share the love of Jesus Christ. Contact Patricia Shouse at (919) 269-8448 for more information and details on how you bring Christmas joy to a child. Please visit the website at http://www.samaritanspurse.org/occ and check it out. ShoeBoxes will be collected November 14/15 and 21/22 and must be in by November 22. Thank you! We will start a little differently this year, but I am still trying to keep the time commitment to a minimum ~ I know time is especially precious this time of year! Children (ages 7 and up) are invited to sign-up after all English Masses the weekends of November 14/15 and 21/22. After parents fill out some brief information (Child's name, parent's email etc.), your child will be given a packet of all of the music we will be singing, and a rehearsal CD with all of the songs- so they can listen and learn ahead of time. Children who sing in the choir will also have the option of being among the angels in the Gospel Pageant. Rehearsals are in the music room (Trailer 4) on Saturdays from 1PM until 2:30PM on December 5, 12, and 19. It is not mandatory that you attend all three, but it is strongly recommended. In 2002 the Bishops of the United States promulgated the Charter for the Protection of Children and Youth People. If you would like to gain these skills as well, please attend a Safe Environment Training. This training is required for all clergy, employees and those in leadership positions with children and youth. When you know a person well, you know how to read the signals they give. If you live a long time with a person you learn to interpret their signs, actions and gestures often without the need to say a word. In a relationship, these signals are important because they provide leads as to what must be done and what should be avoided to improve the relationship or avoid conflicts. If we apply this reading to the signs and prodigies of heaven, we could easily conclude that the world is really coming to an end. There are earthquakes, all types of catastrophes, destructive atmospheric phenomenon, wars… Exactly all the signs that announce the end of the world. If we are in a true relationship with the living Christ, however, we can view the reading somewhat differently. If all these signs are present, then perhaps it is to make a new world. It will be a new world when we are attentive to the Word of God and to each other; work for peace in our homes; when we pray as a family; sacrifice ourselves for the good of others in our surroundings; and when our kindness brings joy, trust and peace. This will surely be a new and different world. The Kingdom of God will commence to be established. The rest, or the world as we know it, will end although Jesus tells us the day and hour are unknown. Our mission is to work with God so the world can become just as he want it. And because we love him, we know how to read what he desires. Nuestra Parroquia For Reflection ~ What things in my world do need to change? How much attention do I pay to my spouse and children so that I know just how to care for our relationship? What sacrifices am I willing to make for others? Nuestra Parroquia Thirty Third Sunday In Ordinary Time Operation LAMB Whatsoever you did for the “’Least Among My Brothers’, you did for me.” Operation LAMB comes to Saint Eugene this weekend of November 14/15. Knights of Columbus Council #10892 sponsors this yearly event and through your generosity, we hope to raise even more funds to help special needs children in local schools. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
