September 27, 2015 Twenty-Sixth Sunday In Ordinary Time St. Michael Church Newark, New York To our Friends at St. Michael’s Parish: Please accept my most heartfelt thanks for your generous donation to Catholic Charities of Wayne County in the amount of $1,879.98 received from your second collection taken up in the parish recently. I am most grateful for the opportunity Fr. Felix provided me to serve with him at Mass and to speak with all of you in August about the many ways we serve in our community. Our agency operates gratefully through the thoughtful gifts of generous churches and donors and we are very appreciative of your support of the many advocacy and outreach programs we are privileged to provide. Your generosity will help us counsel, clothe, and comfort people struggling under the burden of their everyday life challenges. Our ability to help would not be what it is today without the generosity of communities like St. Michael’s. We are grateful for the opportunities you provide us to be of service to our brothers and sisters in need. Please accept my personal thanks for this kind gift, and my best wishes for a blessed and joyful autumn season. In gratitude! Autumn Prayer O God of Creation, you have blessed us with the changing of the seasons. As we embrace these autumn months, may the earlier setting of the sun remind us to take time to rest. May the crunch of the leaves beneath our feet remind us of the brevity of this earthly life. May the steam of our breath in the cool air remind us that it is you who give us your breath of life. May the scurrying of the squirrels and the migration of the birds remind us that you call us to follow our will. We praise you for your goodness forever and ever. Amen. St. Michael Church Newark, New York Dear Parish Family, In today’s Gospel reading from Mark, Jesus is talking about removing body parts to prevent ourselves from sinning! Yikes! Could you imagine everyone walking around with a hand, foot, or eye missing? Yes, I said everyone, because none of us are without sin. But, is that what Jesus literally means, to remove a body part if we used it as part of our sin? I don’t think so! I believe Jesus is exaggerating to get his point across. Being physically whole doesn’t do us any good if we go around sinning and setting a bad example for the “little ones” mentioned in the Gospel. This coming week, take some time to think about the example you set to others. Do you act in ways or make choices that you would want friends, family, or little children to follow in your footsteps? If you do, make every effort to replace those actions and choices with those you and Jesus would be proud of. Go celebrate the sacrament of Reconciliation and decide to make every effort in following Jesus more closely. We all stumble and sin in life, but God gives us forgiveness if we are just sincere about changing our ways and ask for God’s forgiveness. Have a blessed week. Peace and love to all, June YOUTH & PARENT NEWS FIRST PENANCE & FIRST EUCHARIST There will be a parent meeting next Sunday, October 4, immediately following the 10:30 am mass, in the church, for those parents who have children that will be celebrating First Penance and First Eucharist this year.
