Weekly Reflection
Reflexión Semanal
Loving God
Un Dios Amoroso
Today’s readings and prayers challenge us to let go of
our earthly reasoning as we surrender to the awe and
wonder we experience when we acknowledge the
presence of God. This experience is described in the
Responsorial Psalm, “I will bless the Lord at all times;
his praise shall be ever in my mouth.” This acknowledgement or “fear of the Lord,” is the grace we experience when we are awakened to our relationship with
God. When this occurs we have accepted Wisdom’s
invitation to rest in her house which is described in the
first reading from Proverbs. Wisdom says, “‘Let whoever is simple turn in here.’ To the one who lacks understanding, she says, ‘Come, eat of my food, and drink of
the wine I have mixed.’” This is the invitation that Jesus
presents in the gospel.
Jesus asks those following
him to let go of all earthly perspectives when he says,
“I am the living bread that came down from heaven;
whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread
that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.” The
Jews, who are hearing Jesus, are perplexed and agitated, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” Jesus challenges them to let go of the foolishness noted
in Proverbs so “that [they] may live and advance in the
way of understanding.” As Saint
Paul directs in his letter to the
Ephesians, we have rested within
Wisdom’s house and been inspired in ways of understanding.
When we approach the Eucharist, all earthly reason vanishes.
Our hearts seek to pray, “O God,
[by] loving you in all things and
above all things, may we attain
your promises, which surpass
every human desire” (Collect).

Did you Know?
Keep the lines of communication
open with children
Your relationship with your child will go through several
stages, but one thing to keep as a priority is the importance of honest, open communication—both from your
kids, and from you. Your children should always know
that they can come talk to you about anything, no matter
how serious, and that you will make time to listen and respond. Without communication, parents don’t know important things about their kids’ lives who they talk to,
where they go, who their friends are.
These parents are far more likely to
miss danger signs about potential bad
influences or predators as well. For
more information on how to foster
communication with your child and for

the Child Rescue Network” email: [email protected]

Did you know that Native Americans, of course, had their
own religion and way of life? Some, such as the Luiseno,
had god named Wiyot who died for his people. So there
was a similarity between their deities and the Christian

Fray Junipero Serra wanted to teach the
First People of the Land of California the
Gospel of Love, and, as a Christian, to
baptize and save them for a heavenly
paradise.
¿Sabia Usted?

For Men Of Irish Descent
If you are a practicing Catholic of Irish descent and interested in perpetuating the history of the contribution the Irish in America have
made to the Catholic Church and our Country, then you
should be a member of The Ancient Order of Hibernians.
The AOH is the oldest and largest Irish Catholic Lay Organization in America and can trace its roots back to Ireland over 300 years ago and was formed in America in
1836. We strive to foster and preserve Irish traditions in
art, music, dance and sport as well as support our Parishes in any way we can. There are number of Divisions in
California and we think there should be one in Ventura.
For more information or an application for membership
please call Bob Berry or Bill Ferguson 805-340-2619. Email [email protected]
