THE MEANING OF OUR BAPTISM
Lent is the time of year that we devote to scrutinizing
our lives in the light of our baptism into the death and
resurrection of Jesus. Today’s readings are a nice
shorthand catechism of what our baptized lives mean. As
Noah passed through the waters of the flood to a covenant
with God, so did we enter into a covenant, a promised
relationship with God through our baptism.
The psalm reminds us that if we truly keep the
covenant, the way of life God expects us to follow will not
be a burden, but a source of love and truth. Peter’s letter
gives one explanation of what our baptism means: it is an
appeal that we make to God for a clear conscience. How
do we obtain this clear conscience? The words that Jesus
proclaims immediately following his temptation show us
the way: “Repent and believe in the gospel.” It might be a
good spiritual exercise to keep these readings before us
throughout the entire season of Lent, a means to help us
return to a life lived in our baptismal promises.

Today’s Readings
First Reading — I will set my bow in the clouds to serve as a sign
of the covenant between me and the earth (Genesis 9:8-15).
Psalm — Your ways, O Lord, are love and truth to those who
keep your covenant (Psalm 25).
Second Reading — The water of the flood prefigured baptism,
which saves you now (1 Peter 3:18-22).
Gospel — Jesus was tempted by Satan, and the angels ministered
to him (Mark 1:12-15)

Together, We Change Lives
A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who made a
commitment to the 2015 Archbishop’s Charities and
Development Drive (ABCD). To date, 214 of our 800 or
so parish families have responded. However, we need the
support of all members of St Bartholomew Parish if we are
to be successful in reaching our parish goal of $ 73,000.
Now is the time to make a return to the Lord for all He has
given us. Even a small gift can make a big difference in
the lives of those in need. Whether your gift is $50, $365,
$1,000 or even $5,000, it is truly impactful and appreciated.
If you have not yet responded to the 2015 ABCD, please
consider making a gift—a gift from the heart—by using the
pledge envelopes available in the pews or by making a gift
online at www.isupportabcd.org. Thank you for all that you
do and the spirit in which you do it! God bless you!

State Spelling Bee
On February 7, 2015 John Voigt, a 5th grade student from St. Bartholomew School, Miramar, FL., traveled over 400 miles with his
family to participate in the Knights of Columbus State Spelling Bee competition held in Kissimmee, Florida. It is an international
spelling bee competition held annually for boys and girls in 5th - 10th grades, which consists of four levels of competition: Council,
District, Regional and State.
John’s journey actually began in October 2014, spending countless hours studying word lists in preparation for the spelling bee.
John’s preparation served him well as he won the local and the District/Regional competitions. After winning at the regional level,
John became eligible for the state spelling bee competition.
John Voight
The competition was intense and mentally grueling. It took 98 words
to determine a winner in his grade level category. Unfortunately John
did not win or place. Despite this, he did a great job representing us
in the competition. He made us proud.
b
Thank you John for a job well done.
The Knights of Columbus Holy Spirit 6032 congratulate you and your
family for competing in the spelling bee competitions.

Bondye, se konsa tou nou menm nou antre nan yon kontra,
yon relasyon ak Bondye ke li te pwomèt nou jou batèm nou.
Sòm jodia fè nou sonje ke si nou vrèman kenbe kontra
a, fason Bondye ta renmen nou viv la pap yon chay pou
nou, men yon sous renmen ak verite. Lèt Pyè a bay yon
pwoklame imedyatman apre tantasyon l nan dezè a montre
nou yo.
Ansanm Nou kapab Chanje Lavi
Ak tout kè nou n ap remèsye tout moun ki fè pwomès
yo pou Kanpay Charite ak Devlòpman Achevèk la
(ABCD). Jodia gen 214 moun sou 800 fanmiy ki nan
pawas la ki deja reponn. Sepandan, nou bezwen sipò tout
manm Sen Batelmi si nou vle atenn objektif pawas nou ki
Men yon ti don ki tou piti kabay fè yon
gwo diferans nan lavi sila yo ki nan bezwen. Menm si
don w lan se $50, $365, $1,000 osinon $5,000, l ap fè
ladiferans e li gen valè. Si ou poko reponn pou ABCD
2015 lan, silvouplè panse pou bay yo don– yon don ki
nan www.isupportabcd.org. Mèsi pou tout sa w ap fè ak
nan lespri ou fè l la. Se pou Bondye beni w.
Seigneur, enseigne-moi tes voies,

a nuestro Señor Jesucristo”.
