Insertion Flow Meters Municipal Market Customer Presentation Topics for Discussion Product Description Specifications Product Offering Standard Package Product Name Principal of Operation Competitive Comparison Why the New FPI Mag? Development Team Comparison Model Changes Applications Features and Benefits Product Description The SPI MagTM is a single point insertable electromagnetic closed conduit/full pipe flow meter. The FPI MagTM is the successor of the Multi Mag. A Full Profile Insertion electromagnetic flow meter that has a fully submersed sensor with multiple electrode points to measure flow across the entire cross-section of flow. Now Available 394L Bi-Directional Configuration Product Offering Single Point Model Multi-Point Models Model 282L 395L – Forward Flow 394L – Bi-Directional Flow 1” Small Diameter Sensor For 4” to 24” 2” 1” for pipe sizes 2” to 30” 2” for pipe sizes 6” to 96” Forward flow only Large Diameter Sensor For 24” to 138” Product Name TM The FPI Mag is a next generation product, the name TM changed from Multi Mag to FPI Mag . TM Why FPI Mag ? Name change gave us an opportunity to highlight the Key Point of Difference. FPI Mag delivers a full profile of the flow similar to a full-bore meter by measuring across the diameter of the pipe. The SPI Mag is the same product as the Single Mag to TM change. Name was changed to align with the FPI Mag . TM TM Pull away from the pack. Differentiate and claim a position closer to a full-bore! Principle of Operation FPI & SPI Mag: Based on Faraday’s Law of Electromagnetic Induction. When a conductive liquid moves through a magnetic field, it produces a voltage. The voltage is directly proportional to the velocity of the conductive medium. Michael Faraday Discovered Electromagnetic Induction in 1831 Principle of Operation SPI Mag: Sensor generates an electromagnetic field, creating a voltage in the water. Two velocity electrodes along with the ground electrodes measure this voltage. A faster water velocity produces a higher voltage. By accurately measuring this voltage, a velocity is determined. Ground Electrodes Velocity Electrode Velocity Electrodes Ground Electrodes 2” sensor 1” sensor Principle of Operation FPI Mag: Multiple electromagnetic coils inside the sensor produce multiple magnetic fields, and multiple sets of stainless steel electrodes on the sensor’s surface measure the voltage generated by the moving water. Principle of Operation FPI Mag: Electrode pairs are located so that each measures an equal cross sectional area. The velocity measurements are added together, providing an area-weighted average velocity across the pipe centerline. Flow is then calculated by multiplying the average velocity by the crosssectional area of the pipe. Why the new FPI Mag? NEW! Bi-Directional – 394L Applications •Storage Tanks – This can be useful in both above ground or below ground water storage. In order to understand the net flow into and out of a storage tank, bi-directional measurement is required. •Water Selling or Sharing - It is common practice that nearby municipalities will often sell/share water with one another. The water does not necessarily always flow in one direction in these cases. Supply and demand changes between two locations mean that the water needs to flow in both directions. •Multiple Water Sources - As cities look to diversify their water sources, it is becoming more common to have more than one source for a municipal plant’s water. Multiple sources of water often mean that water can be flowing in different directions. •Ring Main Distribution Systems - In certain distribution configurations, the water flow is designed so that it can flow in both directions depending on real-time usage. •Unknown Flow or Complex Plumbing Environments - Bi-directional measurement can be valuable for customers with complex plumbing configurations where the flow is unknown. The 394L can be used to help municipal customers better understand water flow in locations where they could not economically measure before. This can be especially valuable in systems that have been expanded since their original construction or in applications where the plant may have been retrofitted several times and the flow in some areas is simply not known. The compact design and ease of installation make the McCrometer’s FPI Mag a perfect fit for these applications. Features and Benefits Ease of Hot Tap Installation Install without service interruption, de-watering lines, cutting pipe or welding flanges Reduces installation cost by more than 45% by eliminating the need for heavy equipment or extensive manpower Perfect for retrofit or sites never metered before Light Insertion design for total accessibility Removable in pipes under pressure Easy removal for inspection, cleaning, calibration or verification with our NIST traceable lab Installs in confined spaces Multi-electrodes span diameter for full profile Unique operating principle delivers accuracy unmatched by other insertion mag meters and rivaling full-bore mags Continuous measurement across entire flow profile Unbeatable value in cost of ownership & installation Cost for inline full bore meters and installation increases dramatically as nominal pipe diameters increase The most economical flow meter solution for large pipe sizes.
