6th Sunday of Easter
LOVE ONE ANOTHER
Last Sunday we heard the familiar passage from
John’s Gospel in which Jesus uses the metaphor of
the vine and the branches. In that passage we were
told that if we remained in Christ we would bear
much fruit. Today’s Gospel tells us just what that
fruit is: love. Today’s second reading and Gospel
together create a great hymn to love. The chorus of
this hymn is simple—God loves us so much that
Jesus was sent into the world so that we would have
life. The Lord Jesus, who last week told us to
remain in him, this week tells us to remain in his
love. In a world marked by division and terrorism,
the Lord’s final words in today’s Gospel are a great
challenge: “This I command you: love one
another.”

Happy Mother’s Day!
Today, in a special way, we thank God for our
mothers. Of course, we are quick to include
grandmothers, caregivers, aunts, teachers, the
many women who have inspired us.
St. John Paul II spoke of spiritual motherhood.
The summary of what he said is this: the best
biological mothers are also spiritual mothers.
And, often, the best spiritual mothers are not
biological mothers. Spiritual motherhood is
the fostering of the development of life—
physical, emotional, intellectual, moral,
spiritual, religious, etc life. Today, in a special
way, we thank God for those who have been
our spiritual mothers!
Of course, Mary is the best spiritual Mother.
As we continue to celebrate the Resurrection
during the Easter Season, we ask Mary to help
us develop the New Life of Christ in our lives.
This Saturday, May 16th, at 4pm Mass, Bishop
Murry will be coming for his yearly pastoral
visit. We ask the Spirit to guide him as he
serves our Mother, the Church.

you have been praying the Rosary daily and saying
your catena prayers, please confirm by calling Lori

member is the praying arem of the Legion of Mary.
An auxiliary brochure can be found on a table in the
entrance area. Join Legion of Mary members in
saying the rosary Tuesdays and Thursdays before
the morning Mass in the month of May. For more

are interested in attending a Legion of Mary
