Tareas
There will be numerous homework assignments which must be completed according to
the course calendar. Your work in these areas will constitute approximately 40% of you
grade.
In all cases, you will receive credit for attempting and completing the assignments,
whether your answers are right or wrong. They provide practice for the tests --in which
errors will cost you points.
The following are explanations of the types of assignments:
En preparación
These study topics and their exercises are found in the back of each chapter of your
textbook in the section “En preparación” (the green pages). If the answers for the
questions in the corresponding ¡A practicar! can be written out, you are to do so and turn
them in (Tarea) on the day after they are assigned on the syllabus at the beginning of
class.
Student Audio Compact Disc
A Student Audio Compact Disc came with your textbook. The recordings accompany the
sections ¿Qué se dice? at the beginning of each Paso (there are three Pasos per Chapter).
You should listen to the ¿Qué se dice? recordings prior to each Paso to expand your
vocabulary and improve your listening skills.
¡Dímelo tú! Cuaderno de Actividades, Manual de Laboratorio y Actividades del
Video The workbook, lab manual and Video activities are online at
http://books.quia.com You should have received an access code with your textbook.
Students must complete the corresponding exercises in the workbook and lab manual as
the material is covered in class. These exercises are due the day of the Chapter Exam.
Exámenes
You will take seven tests during the semester--one for every chapter covered (there is no
“final” test). Each test is worth 100 points, and together constitutes 50% of you grade.
Every test will consist of four parts:
Listening comprehension
Grammar control
Reading comprehension
Writing competency
The best way to prepare for a test is to conscientiously complete all your homework
assignments, since the exams are based upon the very same types of exercises.
Asistencia
The final 10% of your final grade will be determined according to my evaluation of your
attendance and active participation in the class.
Note: I will only allow “make-ups” for exams if there is solid evidence of grave
circumstances of which I must be informed in advance. Homework assignments will not
be accepted late.

The Americans with Disabilities Act states: “Reasonable accommodation will be
provided for all persons with disabilities in order to ensure equal participation within the
program. If a student has a disability that will likely require some accommodation by the
