GENERAL STATEMENT 1. These Terms and Conditions serve as a binding contract between the European Board of Radiology (EBR) and the candidate of the European Diploma in Radiology (EDiR) examination. 2. All candidates must familiarise themselves with the Terms and Conditions before applying for the EDiR exam. 3. By paying the examination fee, EDiR candidates agree to these Terms and Conditions. 4. The EBR reserves the right to make the final decision in all matters relating to the European Diploma in Radiology, including the final decision on the selection of candidates. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA 5. Candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria in order to sit the examination: a. Candidates must be full ESR members, corresponding members or members in training for the year in which the examination is to take place. b. Candidates must be certified radiologists or be in at least their fifth year of national radiology training at the time of the examination. In cases where the length of the national radiology training programme is less than five years, experience as a supervised staff radiologist will be considered. The total amount of training and supervised practical experience must be more than four years at the time of application. c. Candidates must be members of a national radiological society for the year in which the examination is taken. 6. The final decision on a candidate’s admission will be made by the European Board of Radiology on a case-­‐by-­‐case basis. 7. If an applicant cannot meet all entry criteria by the application deadline, their registration for the examination will not be processed. REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION 8. The following documents must be submitted and received by the EBR office by the application deadline given. a. Proof of training indicating the duration of radiology training and expected date of completion (if not completed) issued by the training institution. b. Proof of membership of a national radiological society. c. In cases where the duration of the training programme is less than five years, proof of experience as a supervised staff radiologist is required. d. Proof of profession provided by the current employing hospital/institution (for corresponding members only.) e. Scanned copy of the candidate’s passport. 9. Completed documents should be provided in English. 10. Candidates are responsible for the validity of all documents and application data. APPLICATION DEADLINES 11. Application will close three weeks before the examination date or when there are no more places available. 12. All required documentation must be submitted by the end of the application deadline. 13. Each applicant will be notified whether their application has been accepted two weeks after the application deadline at the latest. V. EXAMINATION FEES 14. The fee for the European Diploma in Radiology (EDiR) examination is: a. €500 for full ESR members and ESR members in training. b. €1,100 for corresponding ESR members. VI. PAYMENT POLICY 15. Full payment must be received by the end of the application deadline. 16. Only applications for which full payment has been received will be accepted. 17. No refunds can be provided if an applicant withdraws their application. EXAMINATION REGULATIONS 18. The examination will take place according to schedule, except in circumstances beyond the EBR’s control. 19. When all places for an examination are taken, applicants may choose to be added to a waiting list and will be contacted by the EDiR team if a place becomes available. 20. The EBR does not tolerate any form of cheating. 21. Copying or sharing any examination content, such as questions and cases, from the European Diploma of Radiology examination is strictly forbidden. 22. Candidates must follow the instructions of the EDiR staff at all times. 23. Candidates will receive the examination guidelines and instructions prior to the examination. Infringement of these regulations will result in failure and exclusion from all future exams. EXAMINATION STRUCTURE 24. The examination consists of four components and two parts that will take place in two days: DAY 1: SHORT CASES, MULTI-­‐RESPONSE QUESTIONS AND SKILLS EXAMINATION a. PART 1 -­‐ Shorts cases and multi-­‐response questions: i. Component 1 -­‐ Short cases (SCs): computer-­‐based examination of 90 minutes duration. ii. Component 2 -­‐ Multi-­‐response questions (MRQs): computer-­‐based examination of 90 minutes duration. b. PART 2 – Skills and oral examination: iii.
Component 3 -­‐ Skills examination: Practical-­‐oriented cases, computer-­‐based examination of 40 minutes duration. DAY 2: ORAL EXAMINATION (for candidates who pass part 1) iv.
Component 4 -­‐ Oral examination: one examiner per candidate, 30 minutes duration. EXAMINATION LANGUAGES 25. Both parts of the EDiR examination are in English. X. SCORING 27. In order to sit the oral examination, the candidate must pass part 1. 28. If the candidate does not pass part 1, the results of the skills examination will be invalidated. 29. If there is a technical problem during the EDiR skills examination that cannot be resolved before the end of the examination, this component will be cancelled and will not be taken into account when calculating the score 30. The score in part 1 is calculated as follows: Part1 = 0.3xSCs _ Score + 0.7xMRQs _ Score a. SCs_Score: Mean of the scores obtained in each short case. b. MRQs_Score: Mean of the scores obtained in each multiple response question. 31. The score in part 2 is calculated as follows: Part2 = (Skills _ Score + Oral _ Score) / 2 a. Skills_Score: Mean of the scores obtained in each skills case. b. Oral_Score: Mean of the scores obtained in each oral case. c. The assigned examiner will grade each skills and oral case with -­‐2, -­‐
1, +1 or +2. 32. 33. Part 1 and Part 2 must be passed in order to pass the EDiR. 34. The results of candidates who have passed part 1 will be posted in a list at the ACV at 17:00 on Day 1. All Candidates will have access to such results of part 1, being the candidates identified in such list with their ESR ID. The Candidates who pass Part 1 will be informed as well about the time and place of Part 2. Candidates having failed part 1 will be able to check their results. 35. Final results will be sent to candidates 15 days after the examination. The results of the EDiR will remain confidential. 36. Final results will be given to candidates in a results report form, and in any case final results shall not be published to all candidates but individually. The results report form includes the candidate’s overall score and detailed results in comparison with the average result. XI. DATA PROTECTION AND PRIVACY 38. During the examination the EBR may collect candidates’ personal data, including their image and their voice during the Oral Exam. By accepting these Terms and Conditions, the candidate authorises the EBR to publish the results of the Part 1 of the EDiR and to record the Oral Exam, as set forth in Annex I “Authorization for the Recording of the Oral Exam” 39. Candidates allow the EBR to store their personal data. The EBR shall not use such personal data for purposes other than those related to the EDiR examination. 41. Candidates may exercise their Access, Rectification, Cancellation and Opposition rights. The exercise of these rights must be made in writing, to [email protected] XII. AWARD OF EDiR CERTIFICATE 42. Diploma certificates will only be awarded to successful candidates who: a. Are fully licensed and in active practice as trained radiologists (ESR full membership or corresponding membership required.) OR b. Have completed radiology training, with a minimum duration of five years, in a nationally accredited programme. In cases where the relevant training programme is less than five years duration, credit for experience as a supervised staff radiologist will be considered (the total of training and supervised practical experience must be five years or more.) 43. Both of the following documents must be submitted to the EBR office either during the application process or, if not immediately available, after the examination, in order to receive the Diploma certificate c. A Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) from an official national registration body or training institution indicating a minimum of five years of radiology training. If the training has not been completed before the EDiR examination is taken, then the CCT may be provided after completion of training. APPEALS PROCESS General Terms: 44.
Appeals can only be made if there is a technical problem during the examination. Appeals may only be made regarding part 2 of the examination if candidates meet the following criteria: -­‐ The candidate’s score is no more than 5% below the pass-­‐
mark -­‐ The candidate has a maximum of one case evaluated with a mark of -­‐2. -­‐ The candidate has completed a minimum of 6 cases. Appeals cannot be made regarding the content of the examination. 45.

The Appeals Commission shall be composed of three members co-­‐
opted by the EBR. The members shall include one appointee from the ESR Education Committee, with recognised expertise in European educational standards; one appointee from the ESR National Societies Committee; and the current Scientific Director of the EBR. The Appeals Commission has the right to receive evidence from nominated experts or witnesses. The Appeals Commission’s decisions are final and are not subject to review by the EBR. If a commission rules in favour of a candidate, no costs will be incurred by the candidate. If it rules in favour of the official EBR result, costs in relation to the enquiry shall be borne by the candidate. PART 1 -­‐ Short Cases and Multi-­‐Response Questions. Candidates may only appeal in relation to technical aspects of the examination; no appeal may be made in relation to the content. Any appeal relating to part 1 must be requested immediately after the results of the first part of the exam have been published on the first day of the examination. 49.
PART 2 -­‐ Skills and Oral Examination Candidates may only lodge an appeal regarding part 2 if they comply with the requirements listed in point 44. An appeal relating to part 2 must be requested within 10 days of receipt of the results. The EDiR Scientific Board will then review the recording, as mentioned in point 40, and will subsequently issue a report within a maximum of 30 days of the initiation of the Appeal Process. XIV. An overall passing grade can only be achieved by passing each individual section of the examination. A Diploma Certificate will only be awarded to candidates who pass the EDiR examination and meet all of the eligibility criteria. Candidates who fail the exam must re-­‐sit the entire examination in order to receive the Diploma Certificate. Results from the previous exam will not be considered.
