Teacher Guide
Instructions:
•Choose a flip book template (either with
space for students to write definitions or
pictures only).
•There are 2 templates per sheet of paper in
order to reduce paper waste. I like to use a
paper cutter to cut these in half before
passing out to students.
•Each student should then receive 11 half
sheets (each with a different template page)
in order to assemble their book.
•Students fill in pages with definitions if you
desire and then color the flip book.
•To assemble the flip book, cut along the
DOTTED line indicated “corta aquí” on each
sheet.
•Order the pages from the shortest on top (the
cover page) to the longest on the bottom (La
Calavera).
•Secure the flip book at the top with staples OR
glue each page to the following page with a
small strip of glue along the top of each page.
Lesson Options:
•I often use this an internet webquest project.
I give students the template and they search
online to find the definitions of the words and
how the word is associated with Day of the
Dead.
•Alternatively, you can project or pass out the
vocabulary page to all students to have
them fill in the definitions on their flip book
templates.
•If you do not wish to include definitions in the
flipbooks themselves, use the second
template and have students create to
colorful picture book about the holiday.
Teacher Tips:
•I like to use these flip books to teach and review
important symbols associated with Día de los Muertos.
•Do you hate paper waste as much as I do?  I have
students save the extra paper cut off from this project
and add to our paper scrap bin. We then use these
scraps for students to write on if I’m collecting warmup responses, exit tickets, or as scratch paper.
•Another tip is to print each page of the template in a
different colored paper if you’d like for the books to
be more colorful.
