Dear Parents and Guardians,
Recently, there have been many stories in the media about threats to schools across the country. We are taking
this opportunity to ask that our families speak with their children about the seriousness of making threats of
violence towards or at a school.
It is very important to communicate to your children that the implications of making threats are significant. Not
only does this have lasting impacts on the social-emotional well-being of students and staff, but there is an
impact on the family and community. One such impact on the community is the allocation of resources to
address the threat. It has a direct impact on First Responders (Police and Fire) of Greater Racine.
Whether a child perceives making a threat as a joke or a meaningless act, making such a threat could result in
suspension, expulsion and/or charges up to a felony from the local municipality.
According to the state of Wisconsin statute 947.015:
“whoever intentionally conveys or causes to be conveyed any threat or false information, knowing such
to be false, concerning an attempt or alleged attempt being made or to be made to destroy any property
by the means of explosive is guilty of a Class I Felony.”
A Class I Felony can result in up to 3 1/2 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.
We are committed to ensuring that your children are receiving their education in a safe and healthy school
environment and we ask you to partner with us in this effort. RUSD staff along with our partners with the
Caledonia, Mount Pleasant, Racine and Sturtevant Police Departments continue to collaborate on this
commitment.

Estimados Padres y Tutores,
Recientemente han habido varias historias en los medios de comunicación sobre amenazas en escuelas alrededor
del país. Estamos tomando esta oportunidad para pedirles a nuestras familias que hablen con sus estudiantes
sobre la seriedad de hacer amenaces de violencia hacia o en una escuela.
Es muy importante comunicarle a su estudiante que las consecuencias por hacer amenazas son significativas. No
solo hace un impacto duradero en el bienestar soci-emocional de los estudiantes y el personal, pero hay un
impacto en la familia y la comunidad. Un impacto a la comunidad es el reparto de recursos para investigar esa
amenaza. Tiene un impacto directo a los equipos de Primeros Auxilios (Policía y Bomberos) del área de Racine.
Aun si un estudiante piensa que hacer una amenaza es un juego o un acto sin importancia, hacer tal amenaza
puede resultar en ser suspendido, expulsado y/o cargos criminales serios por parte de la municipalidad.
Según el estatuto 947.015 de estado de Wisconsin:
“quien intencionalmente exprese o cause la impresión de cualquier amenaza o información falsa,
sabiendo ser falsa, relacionado a un intento o supuesta amenaza hecha o por hacerse para destruir
cualquier propiedad por medio de un explosivo es culpable de un Delito Serio de Clase I.”
Un Delito Serio de Clase I puede resultar en hasta 3 años y medio de prisión y una multa de hasta $10,000.
Estamos comprometidos en asegurar que sus estudiantes estén recibiendo su educación en un ambiente escolar
seguro y saludable y les pedimos que colaboren con nosotros en este esfuerzo. El personal de RUSD junto con
nuestros colaborados de los Departamentos de Policía de Caledonia, Mount Pleasant, Racine y Sturtevant siguen
colaborando en este compromiso.
