“Here begins the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.” (Mark 1:1)
At the beginning of every Lent, on Ash Wednesday, we are marked with ashes as a sign of repentance and we hear the words “Reform your life and believe in the Gospel.” Mark begins his Gospel with the simple declaration that what follows is the Gospel of Jesus. Mark was not only beginning the story of his experience with Jesus. He was also beginning the Gospel tradition that would be followed by many other writers. Only four authors are canonically included the Holy Scripture—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Each of them tell of their journey with the Lord in order that each of us can walk with Him in faith, hope, and love.
Where did the Gospel of Jesus Christ begin for us? In one sense it began through the faith of our parents. They presented us for baptism as infants for most of us. During our growing up years, our parents set the pace for our faith formation. In another sense, the Gospel of Jesus begins for us each year in Advent with a new cycle of the mystery of Jesus. This cycle includes this Lenten time of conversion and renewal, a time for us individually and as a community of faith, to believe more deeply in the Gospel of Jesus. It is the words that he proclaimed, the miracles and actions that he witnessed to, and the saving death and resurrection through which he gained for us the hope of eternal life. In reality, the Gospel of Jesus begins for us each day. We turn to the Gospel of Jesus as is told to us by the four Gospel writers to bring us comfort, or strength, or wisdom, or perseverance, or hope, or any of the spiritual graces that we need to grow as his disciples. As we enter into these final weeks of Lent 2015, may we know more deeply the Good News of Jesus, and live it more perfectly in our life. ~ Fr. Jack

WOMEN’S RETREAT
St. Joseph Retreat for Women will be held at Mater Dolorosa Retreat Center on the weekend of April 17-19. Join your fellow parishioners for this weekend of spiritual enrichment and growth. Fifth Sunday of Lent
NOT FOR MY SAKE . . .
We struggle with the meaning of losing our life in order to find it, of dying in order to live. In the cove-­
nant of our world, these contradictory concepts make no sense. But Jesus came to establish a new covenant, one of service and of love. “He learned obedience from what he suffered” (Hebrews 5:8). “Obedience” and “suffering” are two much misunderstood concepts. To obey means to listen and take to heart. Jeremiah speaks of God’s law being written in our hearts, and that we will come to know our God. Psalm 51 cries out to God for “a clean heart,” for it is with a clear conscience and clear vision that we will see God’s will for us.
BUT FOR YOURS
Just as the prophets and the psalms proclaimed the true way to know and follow God, Jesus shows us in his teaching and in his life how we are to love and serve God and each other. The letter to the Hebrews speaks of Jesus’ reverence for God that manifested itself in obedience and suffering, not for its own sake, but for ours and for the glory of God. This mutual love of God and humanity is made perfect in Jesus, and we begin to see how our suffering can serve others and give glory to God. Our work and our prayer are to be for the good of all, not just for our own benefit: “I will draw everyone to myself” (John 12:32). Jesus’ goodness and his sacrifice attract us to him and show us the enormity of his love and care for us. He held nothing back that could help us find God.
“Where I am, there also will my servant be” (John 12:26). We look to Jesus for our help in loving God and each other, in giving glory to God and service to others. Our glory and honor lie in serving God and our neighbor with love and reverence.

The Catholic faithful use palm branches at Mass on Palm Sunday and bring them home for devotional purposes. Palm Sunday is the popular name for the Sunday before Easter, though its full title is Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion. Two Gospel passages are proclaimed at Mass that day: One tells of people waving branches or spreading cloaks to welcome Jesus in triumph to Jerusalem, and the other tells of his passion and death.
Any branches may be used in the liturgy, but parishes usually provide palm branches, as mentioned in John’s gospel (12:13). The faithful hold them at the beginning of the Mass for the blessing and procession.
After Mass, people may bring the branches home as a sacramental. Various customs have developed. Some place branches behind a wall-mounted crucifix or other religious image. Others cleverly fold them into crosses. Still others incorporate blessed branches into improvised prayers for protection during harmful weather.
Used palm branches are burned the following year, and the ashes are placed on the heads of the faithful on Ash Wednesday. Some parishes burn their own ashes. People who wish to dispose of old palm branches may offer them back for burning or dispose of them at home in some reverent manner.
Palm branches appear in religious art as a symbol of martyrdom. In the Book of Revelation (7:9), a great multitude praises God with palm branches in hand. In the apocryphal gospel of pseudo-Matthew (2021), a palm tree miraculously bends over to nourish the Holy Family on the flight into Egypt, and an angel plants one of its branches in paradise, making the palm a sign of victory in any contest.

Maury Rosenberg, a retired Air force officer, will tell about his courageous career flying the incomparable SR71 Blackbird surveillance plane during the “Cold War”. His talk includes pictures and videos. Maury is a native Californian, a graduate of Northrop University, and a graduate of USC. Parishioners are invited. Refreshments are provided.

NO POR MI BIEN . . .
Tratamos de entender el significado de perder nuestra vida para encontrarla, de morir para vivir. En nuestro mundo actual, esos conceptos contradictorios no tienen sentido. Pero Jesús vino a establecer una nueva Alianza de amor y servicio. “Aprendió en su pasión lo que es obedecer”. “Obediencia” y “sufrimiento” son dos palabras muy malentendidas. Obedecer significa escuchar y tomar las cosas en serio. Jeremías habla de la ley de Dios escrita en nuestro corazón, y que llegaremos a conocer a nuestro Dios. El Salmo 51 clama a Dios por “un corazón limpio”, porque será con una conciencia y una visión claras que veremos la voluntad de Dios para nosotros.
SINO POR USTEDES
Así como los profetas y los salmos proclamaron el camino verdadero para conocer y seguir a Dios, Jesús nos muestra en su enseñanza y en su vida cómo debemos amar y servir a Dios y a los demás. La carta a los Hebreos habla de la reverencia que Jesús tenía hacia Dios y que se manifestaba en obediencia y sufrimiento, no en su propio bien sino en el nuestro y para la gloria de Dios. Este amor mutuo entre Dios y la humanidad se hace perfecto en Jesús, y empezamos a ver cómo nuestro sufrimiento puede servir a los demás y glorificar a Dios. Nuestras obras y oraciones son para el bien de todos, no solamente para nuestro propio beneficio. “Atraeré a todos hacia mí”. La bondad de Jesús y su sacrificio nos atraen a él y nos muestran la grandeza de su amor y su atención por nosotros. Jesús no ocultó nada que pudiera ayudarnos a encontrar a Dios.
“Que donde yo esté también esté mi servidor”. Buscamos a Jesús para que nos ayude a amar a Dios y a los demás, a dar gloria a Dios y servir a los demás. Nuestra gloria y honor dependen de servir a Dios y nuestro prójimo con amor y reverencia.

“Aquí comienza el Evangelio de Jesucristo, el Hijo de Dios”. (Marque 1:1) A principios de cada Cuaresma, en el Miércoles de Cenizas, somos marcados con cenizas como un signo de arrepentimiento y oímos las palabras “Reforma su vida y creemos en el Evangelio”. Mark comienza su Evangelio con la declaración simple que lo que sigue es el Evangelio de Jesús. Mark sólo no comenzaba la historia de su experiencia con Jesús. También comenzaba la tradición del Evangelio que sería seguida de muchos otros escritores. Sólo cuatro autores son canónicamente incluidos la Escritura Sagrada — Matthew, Mark, Luke y John. Cada uno de ellos cuenta de su viaje con el Señor a fin de que cada uno de nosotros pueda andar con Él en fe, esperanza y amor. ¿Dónde comenzó el Evangelio de Jesucristo para nosotros? En un sentido comenzó a través de la fe de nuestros padres. Nos presentaron para el bautismo como niños parala mayor parte de nosotros. Durante el que crecemos años, nuestros padres ponen el paso para nuestra formación de fe. En otro sentido, el Evangelio de Jesús comienza para nosotros cada año en el Advenimiento con un nuevo ciclo del misterio de Jesús. Son las palabras que proclamó, los milagros y acciones que atestiguó a, y la muerte de ahorro y resurrección a través de la cual ganó para nosotros la esperanza de la vida eterna. En realidad, el Evangelio de Jesús comienza para nosotros cada día. Damos vuelta al Evangelio de Jesús como es dicho a nosotros por los cuatro escritores del Evangelio traernos la comodidad, o la fuerza, o la sabiduría, o la perseverancia, o la esperanza o cualquiera de las gracias espirituales que tenemos que cultivar como sus discípulos. Como firmamos estas semanas finales de la Cuaresma 2015, podemos saber más profundamente las Buenas noticias de Jesús, y vivo esto más perfectamente en nuestra vida ~Padre Jack
DONACIONES DE POSTRES NECESARIAS
Donaciones de postres son necesarias para la recepción después de la vigilia de pascual el sábado, 4 de abril. Los artículos pueden ser traídos a la oficina del Centro de la Parroquia ese día de las 8:00 al mediodía o a la cocina del parroquia de 7:30 hasta las 8:00pm. Los artículos que pueden ser comidos con los dedos son preferidos.

SERVICIOS DE INMIGRACIÓN
El único proveedor de servicios de inmigración y naturalización que está aprobado para comercializar sus servicios dentro de nuestra parroquia y las parroquias de la Diócesis de Orange es Caridades Católica. El Centro de Inmigración y Ciudadanía de Caridades Católicas trabaja junto con las Apelaciones de Inmigración acreditados y ayuda a los clientes con las solicitudes de naturalización, ajuste de estatus, la petición de la familia, la unidad familiar, la reunificación familiar, visas de estudiante y un conjunto de servicios adicionales. También se ofrecen clases de Ciudadanía gratis. Las clases que se llevan a cabo tres veces al mes en el Centro.

Para poner fechar para el bautismo, todos los requisitos necesitan estar en orden, diez días ANTES de la fecha del bautismo.
CERTIFICADOS Y CARTAS Si necesita una copia de un certificado o una carta de permiso para bautizar o casarse en otra parroquia, por favor venga a la oficina parroquial.
