Dear Parents,
I would like to begin by wishing you all a healthy and happy New Year albeit rather
belatedly!
Prior to the Christmas holiday we all enjoyed celebrating 1980’s style to
acknowledge the school’s 30th anniversary and I would like to thank you all for your
support at the afternoon event held for this occasion.
One Kilo = One Smile
Every year I am astounded by your generosity in this event and 2015 was no
exception! The donations were very gratefully received by Cruz Roja who reported
that although we are one of the smallest schools they collect from they are always
amazed by the variety and volume of goods we collect. Thank you very much to all
of you, your donations made a difference to many families in need.
Christmas Market
The Christmas Market this year was mainly organised this year by Year 6 and 7 to
support their trip to the UK. Other classes also organised various stalls and we will
be donating the funds raised by them to the charity ‘AFOL’: The association for
families affected by Haematology-oncology in Lanzarote. Again thank you for your
generosity and for helping us support this worthy charity.
The Christmas hamper was won by Maria Isabel Aguilar Díaz who bought her raffle
ticket from Aday in Year 6. The enormous hamper of sweets was won by Bendix in
Year 4!
Cambridge Awards

We are delighted to announce this year that for the second year running BSL pupils
have received awards from Cambridge International Examinations. Two pupils who
took their Cambridge IGCSEs in May/June 2015; Jaime Galván Tapiador and
Francisco Fabelo Hidalgo have achieved the highest mark in the world in their
IGCSE Spanish exams.
Carnival
Celebrations this year will be held on Friday 5th February. Pupils may come to
school in their carnival costumes. Parents are invited to come and see the children
parading around the local streets at 9:30am. We would love as many parents as
possible to come and watch the parade which will be accompanied by the BSL
Carnival drumming band. Certificates will be awarded to the most original costume in
each class! Please ensure that younger pupils can remove their costumes easily so
they can use the toilet. Pupils may stay in costume all day, but if they wish to
change, they must wear school uniform.

Pupils in F1 to Year 6 need to bring in two hard boiled eggs on Monday 7th
March for decoration. Eggs decorated by pupils in F1 and F2 will be displayed in
school on Monday 14th, those decorated by Years 1 and 2 on Tuesday 15th, Years 3
and 4 on Wednesday 16th, Years 5 and 6 on Thursday 17th and Secondary on Friday
18th March.
Roles of Responsibility
We would like to commend the excellent work done by last term’s Prefects: Alex
(Head boy), Alejandra (Head girl), Néstor, Marta, Paula, Megan and Charlie; They all
made valuable contributions to the day to day organisation in school.
School Production
We are still waiting for the theatre to confirm the date of our School Production this
year but we can tell you that it will be held as usual in the San Bartolome Theatre
on Friday 15th or Friday 22nd April. Letters will be sent home nearer the time
regarding ticket sales and costumes, etc.
Lost Property
We have quite a large collection of lost uniform items, including shoes and outside
coats. If you would like to look for any lost item please ask the teacher on the gate.
Please be informed that any items not claimed before the end of this term will be
donated to charity.
Looking to the Future
On behalf of the school governors I wish to inform you that the piece of land adjacent
to the school has been purchased by BSL with a view to expanding the school. At
this point in time plans are in the early stages of development but we are confident
that any improvements will continue to enhance the school.

Quisiera empezar deseándoles a todos un ¡prospero y feliz año nuevo! aunque sea con
retraso.
Asimismo, quiero agradecerles a todos su apoyo durante el divertido evento celebrado antes
de las vacaciones navideñas en el que disfrutamos celebrando el 30 aniversario del centro al
estilo 80.
Un Kilo = Una Sonrisa
Cada año su generosidad en este evento me asombra ¡y 2015 no fue una excepción! Los
representantes de la Cruz Roja que recogieron las donaciones de alimentos estaban muy
agradecidos y reconocieron que para ser uno de los centros más pequeños siempre se
asombran de la cantidad y la variedad de productos recaudados. Les agradecemos a todos sus
donaciones que han podido ayudar a muchas familias necesitadas.
Feria navideña
La feria navideña este año fue organizada en parte por los alumnos de Year 6 y Year 7 para
recaudar fondos para su viaje a Inglaterra. Los demás alumnos llevaron diferentes puestos
para recaudar fondos para la caridad Asociación de Familias Oncohematológicas de
Lanzarote 'AFOL'. Gracias por su generosidad y por ayudarnos a colaborar con esta caridad
tan valiosa.
Aday de Year 6 vendió el billete ganador de la Cesta de Navidad y la ganadora “María Isabel
Aguilar Díaz” vino a recoger su premio. La enorme cesta de golosinas lo ganó Bendix de
Year 4.

Estoy orgullosa de anunciar por segundo año consecutivo, que el consejo examinador de
Cambridge (CIE) ha premiado a dos de nuestros alumnos. Jaime Galván Tapiador y
Francisco Fabelo Hidalgo han recibido el reconocimiento por obtener ¡las mejores
calificaciones en el mundo! en sus exámenes de Spanish IGCSE, que realizaron en
mayo/junio del 2015.
Carnaval
Celebraremos el Carnaval en el colegio el viernes 5 de febrero. Los alumnos pueden asistir
con sus disfraces puestos. Queremos invitar a los padres a ver a los niños desfilando por las
calles colindantes a nuestro centro a las 9:30 de la mañana. Nos encantaría tener la mayor
cantidad de público posible para ver nuestro coso de carnaval que estará acompañado por la
batucada de BSL. El alumno con el disfraz más original de cada clase recibirá un diploma.
Por favor asegúrense de que los niños pequeños puedan manejar el disfraz para poder ir al
baño sin complicaciones. Los alumnos pueden llevar sus disfraces durante todo el día, no
obstante, si prefieren cambiarse de ropa más tarde deberán venir con el uniforme escolar.
Concurso Huevos de Pascua

Los alumnos desde F1 hasta Year 6 deben traer 2 huevos duros sin pelar el lunes 7 de
marzo para decorarlos en el colegio. Los huevos decorados por los alumnos de F1 y F2 serán
expuestos en el colegio el lunes 14 de marzo, los de Year 1 y Year 2 serán expuestos el
martes 15, Year 3 y Year 4 el miércoles 16, Year 5 y Year 6 el jueves 17 y Secundaria el
viernes 18 de marzo.

Nos gustaría elogiar el excelente trabajo de nuestros delegados del trimestre pasado: Alex
(Head boy), Alejandra (Head girl), Néstor, Marta, Paula, Megan and Charlie. Todos hicieron
valiosas contribuciones a la organización diaria del centro.
Producción escolar
Aun no nos han confirmado la fecha de nuestra producción escolar pero tendrá lugar como
siempre en el teatro de San Bartolomé el viernes 15 o el viernes 22 de abril. Mas adelante
les informaremos sobre la venta de entradas, el vestuario, etc.
Propiedad extraviada

Tenemos muchas prendas de uniforme sin reclamar, incluyendo zapatos y abrigos. Si desea
buscar alguna prenda extraviada, por favor pedírselo al profesor o profesora en la puerta. Les
informamos que cualquier prenda que no haya sido reclamada antes de fin de curso será
donado a alguna institución de caridad.
Mirando hacia el futuro
En nombre de los gobernadores del centro les informo que el BSL ha adquirido un terreno
adyacente al centro con miras a ampliar el colegio. En estos momentos, los planes para el
mismo están en sus primeras etapas pero estamos seguros que contribuirán a la mejoría del
centro.
