Our season con"nues as we keep reflec"ng on stewardship the gospel of Mark and some"mes the gospel according to John. Mark 6 presents us with a narra"ve of the mul"plica"on of bread and fish to feed the mul"tude. John 6 also provides us with another narra"ve of the same miracle, highligh"ng some special details. Today, we will have the opportunity to listen and reflect on the Johannine narra"ve as part of the passages selected in the lec"onary. Considering the miracle of the mul"plica"on of the bread and fish and the feeding of the great mul"tude brings us to a close look at the mystery we celebrate when we gather around the altar to celebrate the Holy Mass. The Eucharist we celebrate joins us with the heavenly banquet, already prefigured in the events we heard of today in the gospel. The Holy Father has spoken in the past about the Eucharist addressing this very important aspect of our Chris"an life and its deep spiritual meaning to us as believers. On his General Audience at Saint Peter’s Square on Wednesday, 5 February 2014, for example, Pope Francis pointed out how “Jesus’ gesture at the Last Supper is the ul"mate thanksgiving to the Father for his love, for his mercy. ‘Thanksgiving’ in Greek is expressed as ‘eucharist’. And that is why the Sacrament is called the Eucharist: it is the supreme thanksgiving to the Father, who so loved us that he gave us his Son out of love. This is why the term Eucharist includes the whole of that act, which is the act of God and man together, the act of Jesus Christ, true God and true Man.” He also explained something important about the Eucharist: “The Eucharis"c Celebra"on is much more than a simple banquet: it is exactly the memorial of Jesus’ Paschal Sacrifice, the mystery at the center of salva"on. ‘Memorial’ does not simply mean a remembrance, a mere memory; it means that every "me we celebrate this Sacrament we par"cipate in the mystery of the passion, death and resurrec"on of Christ. The Eucharist is the summit of God’s saving ac"on.” Padre José Muñoz Page 3 Readings for the Week of July 26 Sunday 2 Kgs 4:42-44; Ps 145; Eph 4:1-6; Jn 6:1-15 Monday Ex 32:15-24, 30-34; Ps 106; Mt 13:31-35 Tuesday Ex 33:7-11, 34:5b-9, 28; Ps 103; Mt 13:36-43 Wednesday Saint Martha Ex 34:29-35; Ps 99; Jn 11:19-27 or Lk 10:38-42 Thursday Saint Peter Chrysologus, Bishop and Doctor of the Church Ex 40:16-21, 34-38; Ps 84; Mt 13:47-53 Friday Saint Igna9us of Loyola, Priest Lv 23:1, 4-11, 15-16, 27, 34b-37; Ps 81;Mt 13:54-58 Saturday Saint Alphonsus Liguori, Bishop and Doctor of the Church Lv 25:1, 8-17; Ps 67; Mt 14:1-12 Sunday, August 2 Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Ex 16:2-4, 12-15; Ps 78; Eph 4:17, 20-24; Jn 6:24-35 Save the Date...Come and enjoy the upliJing music and songs by our very own St. Isaac Choirs. We become what we consume — consuming Christ in the Eucharist leads us to discipleship in Him. St. Paul reminds us we have received a calling from the Lord. We answer His call to discipleship through the stewardship of sharing our "me, talent, and treasure with our parish communion and poor among us.
