During the day, Amber Adam
oversees all operations of a 20-person, 108 year old printing ﬁrm. At
night, Amber becomes “The Blanket Lady” where she ﬁnds time to
help the less fortunate.
Over a year ago Amber began
collecting blankets from second
hand stores, friends, family and
co-workers to hand out on her
free time to local homeless. She
spends her weekends personally
distributing the blankets to areas
where the homeless gather. The
local homeless now call her “The
Blanket Lady.” After a few organizations, such as the San Buena
Ventura Mission and Cats Cradle
heard of what Amber was doing,
they both started donating things to
her weekly which has her thrilled.
The giving of blankets has grown
to clothing, shoes, hygiene products, etc. and without any time to
herself. Amber picks up donations
every day after work and still
personally hands them out. As if
that charity didn’t take all of her
time, she also donates her time to

Tuesday, June 9th to recognize
several third- through eighthgrade children for academic
achievement in the past school
year.

Matthew Klinefelter, and Ttrustees Eleanor Torres and Edith
Martinez-Cortes were on hand to
congratulate students as Superintendent John Puglisi handed them
academic achievement awards.
Students were given certiﬁcates
and medallions for mathematics,
art, writing, physical education,
social studies, high grade point
averages and accelerated reading.
"This is year three for me as
Superintendent, I'm very glad to be
here, this is a great event. When
you put a seed in the ground and
you take care of the little plant,
eventually it will grow and produce a nice fruit, that is the work of
parents and teachers and the seeds
are our students" said Puglisi, who
credited administrative staff Wanda Kelly and Sonia Cervantes with
organizing the event, held for the
second time since Puglisi became
superintendent in July 2012.
"In this room right now with
us are the cream of the crop,"
Puglisi said to the room full of
photo-snapping parents who had
gathered at Oxnard's Residence
Inn.
"By the way, school has gotten
harder--the things they asked us to
do in sixth grade, they do in third
grade," Puglisi said. "The stuff
they asked us to do in ninth grade,
they do in sixth grade."
Three students who racked up
the most points for accelerated
reading also got trophies.
In the accelerated reader program, students are tested on books
they have read.
"If they pass the test, they earn
points," explained Puglisi. "That's
the accelerated reader program in
a nutshell."
Puglisi said to get the awards,
students had to be motivated to
follow their interests and achieve
something every day, thanking
parents as well as teachers, administrators and classiﬁed staff

¿Cómo funciona la estafa? Los
impostores se hacen pasar por
empleados de SCE y llaman a
los usuarios amenazándolos con
desconectar su servicio eléctrico
a menos que realicen el pago
inmediato de una factura supuestamente vencida. El estafador
exige el pago inmediato y pide al
usuario desprevenido que compre
una tarjeta de débito prepaga, de
las cuales existen una gran variedad, le cargue una suma especíﬁca
de dinero y llame nuevamente al

impostor para suministrarle el
número de serie que aparece en la
parte de atrás de la tarjeta.
Una vez que el usuario suministra el número de serie, el dinero
ya no puede rastrearse y se pierde
para siempre.
Y aunque cada vez más usuarios
están aprendiendo a reconocer las
estafas telefónicas, los impostores
continúan estafando a la gente
con métodos más complejos y
engañosos.
“Hacemos todo lo posible por
informar a nuestros usuarios sobre
estos delincuentes de modo que no
sean víctimas de sus estafas. Solemos incluir información importante como esta en los insertos de
nuestras facturas mensuales, por
lo que recomendamos a nuestros
usuarios que los lean detenidamente”, dijo Kari Gardner, gerente
de Asuntos del Consumidor de
SCE. “Asimismo, compartir esta
información sobre las estafas con
empleados y amigos les ayudará
a estar preparados en caso de que
reciban una llamada telefónica
exigiéndoles un pago”.
Los usuarios de SCE que tengan
sospechas sobre una llamada fraudulenta deben solicitar el nombre
de la persona que llama, así como
el número de teléfono de su departamento y empresa. Una vez ﬁnalizada la llamada, deben denunciar
el incidente inmediatamente a la
policía local o comunicarse con
SCE al 1-800-655-4555. Y nunca
deben llamar al número telefónico suministrado por el impostor.
En su lugar, deben llamar a los
números telefónicos de Edison
que ﬁguran en la factura o visitar
el sitio web de SCE. Nuestros
representantes podrán ayudarle en
diferentes idiomas.
Si ya le pagó al impostor, comuníquese con SCE para denunciar
la estafa y suministre el número
de tarjeta que usó para pagarle al
estafador. Además, llame al departamento de policía de su localidad
y haga la denuncia de su pérdida.
Indicios de una estafa
Estos son algunos indicios que
pueden ayudarle a detectar una
estafa telefónica.
· Estafa: La persona que llama
exige el pago inmediato bajo la
amenaza de desconectar el servicio eléctrico.
Realidad: SCE jamás llama a
sus usuarios para cobrarles facturas vencidas y jamás exigirá un
pago inmediato bajo la amenaza
de desconectar el servicio.
· Estafa: El usuario recibe instrucciones de comprar una tarjeta
de débito prepaga durante los
próximos 30 a 60 minutos y cargarle dinero.
Realidad: SCE no acepta tarjetas prepagas para el pago de
facturas.
· Estafa: La persona que llama
dice pertenecer al Departamento
de Desconexiones de SCE.
Realidad: SCE no tiene un
Departamento de Desconexiones.
· Estafa: La persona que llama
pide que el pago se haga en persona.
Realidad: Los empleados de
SCE jamás piden ni reciben dinero
fuera de las instalaciones de la
empresa.
· Estafa: Usted recibe una llamada un ﬁn de semana o día feriado
sobre una factura vencida.
Realidad: SCE no efectúa transacciones de crédito durante ﬁnes
de semana o feriados.
· Estafa: Le informan que un
camión de SCE que dice Service
Disconnect (Desconexión de servicio) está en camino a su casa o
negocio, o que está estacionado
frente a su domicilio.
Realidad: SCE no tiene ni utiliza vehículos que digan Service

recordar a joven fallecido
Hermelinda García, la madre de Noel (derecha), recibi la camiseta con el número trece que su hijo vestia.
En noviembre de éste año se
cumplirán seis años desde que
Hermelinda García de 66 años
perdió a su hijo Noel Camacho.
Noel tenía solo 18 años de edad
cuando perdió la vida en un
accidente automovilístico en
noviembre del 2009, dejando
atrás a su familia y a un recién
nacido. Cuando Noel era niño,
formó parte del equipo de fútbol
Boca Juniors que es parte de la
Liga Agricultural del Condado de
Ventura y fue entrenado por el Sr.
Eduardo Solís. Noel comenzó a
jugar fútbol a la temprana edad de
siete años y formo parte del equipo
por casi siete años. Noel fue uno
de los delanteros y goleadores que
juagaban en el equipo.
Para conmemorar su memoria,
el Sr. Solís conto con ayuda de su
esposa Yolanda y su hijo Andy
para coordinar un juego de fútbol
amistoso entre los niños de su
equipo. Este partido se llevo a
cabo el pasado domingo, 7 de junio en Oxnard. Durante el partido,
los niños tuvieron la oportunidad
de demostrar sus habilidades
como jugadores. Los niños del
equipo llevaban puesta una playera especial. Esta playera llevaba
una foto que representaba las
diferentes etapas en las que Noel
jugó con el equipo. Cada playera
