The Committee stated would cause to the power plant, that the discovery is yet to be explaining that the sea level rise completed and other parties may would not affect the plant. NRG identify their concerns. They also HERE de California. Si el proyecto fuera aprobado, este comenzará a construirse el 1º de junio de 2020 y será un proyecto de 2 a 3 años. regarded the potential flood threat for which their staff will determine whether or not the project is considered critical infrastructure and how the effects of flooding should be incorporated into the project design. In regards to sea level rise, the staff will follow the seven policy recommendations listed in the State of California Sea-Level Rise Guidance Document and focus on the 2050 time horizon. In regards to tsunamis, they will analyze the potential for the project site to be impacted by a tsunami and, if needed recommend appropriate mitigation. Many consider the possibility of “El Niño” to be a threat for the current power plant, along with the absence of a tsunami report. Those who attended had an opportunity to make a short 3 minute statement of why they did or did not support the Puente Power Project. Michael Stubblefield, who is part of the Sierra Club and California Energy Climate Committee, believes that a power plant can be built in Moorpark because no other Ventura County Community has even had one power plant. He noted that the city of Oxnard needs to finish the work it has planned for the coastline first and that power plants in the coast are not in the community’s vision for Oxnard. On the other hand, the Camarillo Chamber of Commerce believes that the region needs reliable power and for that reason they support the NRG Puente Power Project. One of the many arguments presented by people against the project, was the fact that there is no warranty that the electricity generated here will be used by local residents. This electricity will go to another county in Southern California. Many also said that these power plants generate lots of contamination to the environment and are the cause of many diseases to the residents in this county, like cancer asthma and many more ugly diseases. Ellen Tracey, an Oxnard resident stated that NRG is putting profit before Oxnard’s resident’s wellbeing and suggested they continue to be a good neighbor elsewhere in the city. Juan Carrillo, a young student asked if there were any power plants in Santa Barbara and questioned why Oxnard needed one more when it already has 3. It was said that NRG would take two of the power plants down in exchange of the construction of the new one. Carrillo ended his statement with: “2 is better than 4, but 0 is better than 2”. What lies ahead? A wait period in which a final decision has to be made. If the project were to be approved, then it would be a 2-3 year construction project and it would begin on June 1st, 2020. VIDA NEWSPAPER 09-03-15 Page B2 www.vidanewspaper.com We stand with Jorge Ramos... Continued from page A1 ald Trump in Iowa, there is much debate about why it happened and what it means. Here’s the take from Frank Sharry, Executive Director of America’s Voice. “Let’s not sugarcoat it. Donald Trump doesn’t just have a hardedged immigration stance. He is calling for the mass deportation of 25% of the nation’s Latino population. He is calling for the roundup of 11.3 million undocumented immigrants and 4.5 million of their U.S. born children. He is calling for the rollback of the 14th Amendment’s guarantee of birthright citizenship, one of our nation’s greatest victories in the quest for equality for all Americans. As the recent hate crime in Boston and the emergence of white nationalist and neo-Nazi support for Trump shows, he is fostering a climate that demonizes and dehumanizes 55 million Latinos because of the way they look or speak, even if their families have been here for centuries. “Trump claims to be only talking about “illegals” and “anchor babies”— not the Latinos who are “the good ones” or who “love Trump.” Tell that to the millions of Latino kids who are now scared that their constitutionally-protected right to citizenship in America may now be taken away. Tell that to the millions of hardworking immigrant families who are deeply rooted in America but are now deeply concerned that they might be subject to an Americanized version of ethnic cleansing. Tell that to the 55 million Latinos in America whose contributions to Donald Trump kicks out Univision news anchor, Jorge Ramos from a news conference in Iowa. the country they love could well be overshadowed by the specter of a significant increase in discriminatory treatment and racial profiling. “It’s time for people of good will to stand up to this repulsive and racist attack on one sixth of our nation. It’s time to stand up for America’s finest ideals and not bow to its worst instincts. It’s time for Americans from across the spectrum to denounce the scapegoating of an entire group of our fellow Americans. “Jorge Ramos did just that. He stood up and demanded that his voice, and the voice of millions of Latinos, be heard. For his efforts he was forcibly removed from a press conference in a nation that prides itself on a free press. After he was escorted out of the press conference, one of Trump’s supporters told him to “get out of my country, go back to Mexico.” Ramos calmly responded, “I am a citizen.” Ultimately, Ramos was allowed back in the room and was able to engage in a testy exchange with Trump, but not after ORDINANCE NO. 2894 ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OXNARD APPROVING FIRST AMENDMENT TO DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT NO. The First Amendment to Development being singled out as a problem, as the other, as someone who should “go back to Univision.” “To Jorge Ramos, we say thank you for standing up – for millions of Latinos, millions of immigrants and millions of Americans who believe in an inclusive society where you’re supposed to be granted dignity and treated equally no matter the color of your skin, the place of your birth or the accent with which you speak." “To Donald Trump, we say shame on you for stirring nativist passions and racial animosity for the purposes of gratifying your runaway narcissism." “And to those pundits and media mavens for whom this has been good theater – and to Americans from all walks of life – we say this isn’t a joke. Trump has never been funny to those he has been attacking. Instead of celebrating him, you should challenge him. For what’s at stake is not just a nomination race, but what kind of society we are and want to be.” Agreement No. A-7122 between City and Developer, a copy of which is on file with the City Clerk, is hereby adopted. The vote was 21-10. The bill passed off the Assembly floor earlier this week on a bipartisan, 56-13 vote. Senate Bill 142 now heads to Governor Jerry Brown’s desk. California law already prohibits someone from entering private property – a person’s home or backyard, for example – without their permission, and prohibits them from photographing or recording conversations. Senate Bill 142 clarifies that the rules pertaining to trespassing by a human being also apply to entry by remotely operated aerial vehicles known as drones. The bill would create a drone ‘no-fly zone’ of 350 feet above private property. “I’m very pleased to see this bill move on to the Governor’s desk for his consideration. Drones are a new and exciting technology with many potentially beneficial uses. But they should not be able to invade the privacy of our backyards and our private property without our permission, “ said Jackson. Owners would also be free to use drones on their own property, or on property in which they had been given permission to use drones. The bill follows numerous public incidents with drones, including incidences of drones impeding firefighting efforts. Often, drones are equipped with video cameras and sound-recording equipment. As they become more widespread, the potential for colliding with established privacy rights increases. “This bill establishes clear rules so that we can properly balance privacy and innovation,” said Jackson. Oregon currently has a law in place, passed in 2013, prohibiting the flying of drones over private property without permission up to 400 feet.
