Principal’s Message
It is so wonderful to be able to welcome all of our SRE families back to another
exciting new year. It was a great feeling to see our students enter the building on
their first day and see the big smiles on their faces. SRE is ready to continue to
make great things happen this year. We are ready to build upon our successes and
implement plans to increase student achievement! Our belief that all students can
learn and achieve has helped us make the ordinary moments produce
extraordinary results. Our School Improvement Team, faculty, and staff have
created important action steps aimed at increasing student achievement for
all. We remain focused on our core business of teaching and learning.
Our school theme this year is “Magical Moments: Ordinary to Extraordinary”. We
believe that each moment counts and is valuable. If we do our best for each
moment that we are learning, we will take the ordinary tasks and produce
extraordinary results.
Teachers have taught, modeled, and practiced our school wide expectations to
“Respect yourself, Respect others, and Respect our environment” with all
students. Teachers explained what these expectations would look like and sound
like in all areas including classrooms, restrooms, hallways, cafeteria, buses, and
brain breaks. Following expectations ensures the safety of all of our students. We
appreciate your support as we work together to continue to provide a safe,
nurturing, and positive learning environment.
I look forward to another outstanding school year. We invite our families to join us
in building a solid foundation upon which our students' futures can be
built.
Parental engagement is important to our success. There will be numerous
opportunities to get involved and support our academic and social programs. Our
SRE Family Center is a wonderful resource to our parents, and we invite you to visit
and volunteer at any time. Our PTO would also love your support. We have many
daytime and evening events aimed at keeping you informed and active in our
school.
We look forward to a great year filled with tremendous success. If you have any
questions or concerns about any aspect of your child’s educational experience,
please feel free to contact the classroom teacher, Assistant Principal, or me. We are
happy to answer any questions you may have. Let's continue to successfully reach
excellence together!

Student Attendance Requirements
The St. Charles Parish Public School System would like to remind parents how important it is for
their children to attend school each and every day.
In order for a student to receive grades and meet the promotional criteria at the end of the year, they
must meet the following state requirements:
Elementary students must be in attendance a minimum of 167 days for the school year.
If a student should miss any days, we ask that parents remember to send in an excuse for each day
the student was absent. As a reminder, the school year calendar consists of 177 instructional days.
Therefore, a student may not miss more than 10 days in the school year.

Welcome back or welcome aboard as we begin our 2015-16 school year journey together. At the Title 1 Family Center, families
are invited to join other parents and children for activities, information and resources. All programs and activities are free. The activities
are supported by funds from the Title 1 program. Highlights of the family center include playgroups every Thursday at 10:00 AM., a
literacy library, educational resources, parent workshops, parent volunteer days, and much more. We hope you are able to join us
throughout the year or that we can be of service to you and your family. Please do not hesitate to contact us for additional support.
To all families and educators, it’s most important to assist your child as they journey through the 2015-16 school year. Equip
them and encourage them as they journey along their path to success. Each child will travel toward their own unique destination. We
know that the journey can often be frustrating and challenging. Guide them with love and wisdom and most of all encourage them to
persevere as they travel through the school year. You just may witness amazing achievements!
Back to School: A Complete Checklist for Parents
Getting back into the swing of things just may be the most difficult part of returning to school. After having had
months away from the rigid schedule of classes, homework and after school events, it’s hard for children and parents
to get back on schedule. The following are tips for getting back into the swing of things…
 Put bedtime battles to rest. To help adjust to





the new schedule, put your children to bed
10 minutes earlier each night. This will help
eliminate the shock from a late to early bed
time.
Help get organized when it comes to
schedules. There are many free apps and
online organizations sites such as Got Family
Get Organized, Evernote, and Remember the
Milk.
Prepare for lots of paperwork. Help keep
yourself and your student organized and
current by checking schoolbags and folders
daily. Make sure all important forms have
been completed and returned on time.
Post your child’s schedule and school
calendar somewhere you can see.
Volunteer your time or expertise. Research
shows that children whose parents are
involved in their school do better
academically and socially.
After school, let your child run inside and
play. Instead of jumping straight to doing
chores or homework, let your child have a
much needed break. Spend 15 to 30 minutes
connecting as a family: play a game, take a
walk, talk about the day, and eat a snack.

Carol Bowie-Cotton: [email protected]
Teléfono: 504-464-9254
Horas: 8:30am-3:30pm
Organized, Evernote y Remember the Milk.
