St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Parish 440 Kendall Street, Burlington, WI | 262.763.2260 October 25, 2015 / Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Rev. Jim Volkert, Pastor | Rev. Yamid Blanco, Associate Pastor Lifesavers for Life This weekend the Knights of Columbus, Council 1578, will be handing out LifeSavers for Life and collecting for pro-life activities in Burlington and throughout the State of Wisconsin. Knights will be stationed at the exits at the end of all Masses that weekend. Please be as generous as you can for this worthy cause. 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time! When you have an opportunity to take a once in a lifetime chance, do you take it? Granted, there is no strict definition for such an instance, but in the strictest sense of the term, do you take chances or do you play it safe? One could argue that our lives are a series of opportunities, and some of the choices we make are the only chances we'll ever have. We may decide to go to work rather than college, and years later we're unable to find the time or the will to go back and get that degree. Or, sometimes a once in a lifetime chance is as simple as asking for something. Bartimaeus figured that he had nothing to lose; blind since birth, he had heard that Jesus was preaching to a crowd nearby. Knowing in his heart that Jesus was truly the Son of God, Bartimaeus went to Jesus, and interrupting his sermon asked Jesus to cure his blindness. Jesus' compassion for a man who had such faith without seeing led him to grant his wish. If we can have faith in Jesus without ever having seen or heard him, will we realize a "once in a lifetime chance"? The Catechism of the Catholic Church, teaching on faith, states: "[A] disciple of Christ must not only keep the faith and live on it, but also profess it, confidently bear witness to it, and spread it" (CCC 1816). Bartimaeus not only possessed great faith in Jesus, he was unashamed and unafraid to call out to his Savior in front of the many people around him. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus said, "Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father." Today, if you meet someone who needs the loving arms of Jesus Christ, take that chance to share his promise of everlasting life. ©2009 Liturgical Publications Inc Register Now for the 2015 Women of Christ Conference The 7th annual WOMEN OF CHRIST CONFERENCE will be held Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Washington County Fair Park, West Bend. It was an absolute success, and once again an amazing experience! Our St. Charles faith community generously supported this event. Our donors contributed $1437.00 to help fund our tuition assistance at St. Charles School. Our walkers consisted of 29 members of the school, the Hispanic Ministry and our Parish. We also collected 45 pairs of shoes that will be donated to those in need. God gave us the perfect day to thoroughly enjoy this very beneficial event. I believe the most important function of the walk is the awareness it brings to Catholic Education. It is critical that we, as a faith community, continue to promote the positive impact Catholic education has on our children, our families, our communities and beyond. It does make a difference! A special thanks goes out to Julie Mermal for stepping in to head the walk on Saturday. God bless everyone who played a part and thank you again!! Hna.Emma Teresa Nunez HMFJ Pine Street Cafe 141 N.
