All are invited to come and spend some time with our Lord in quiet praise and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Page 3 December 6, 2015 MESSAGES FROM FATHER GLENN IF YOU ARE ADMITTED TO LAKE WALES MEDICAL CENTER (HOSPITAL)….. During my entire 2 ½+ years here at Holy Spirit, I have spoken with 3 different people in charge of “chaplain services”, at the Medical Center, requesting that the Center provide a list of patients who have indicated (upon completing the admittance forms) they would appreciate a visit from the Pastor. For 2 ½ years I have been told that to do that would be a “violation of HIPPA”. I have argued that since Florida Hospital in Winter Park daily prints a list of all patients according to their religious affiliation and offers that list to any “hospital authorized” pastor, how could it be a violation of HIPPA for Lake Wales Medical Center and not for a huge hospital system such as is Florida Hospital. That argument has changed not a thing. SO... if you are admitted to the Lake Wales Medical Center and even if, during the admitting process, you indicate in writing that you would appreciate a visit from your Pastor….do not expect a visit unless you, your spouse or friend calls our parish office and notifies us that you are in the hospital. I will have no other way of knowing you are in the Lake Wales Medical Center MORE IMPORTANT THINGS: PLEASE, IF YOU KNOW OF SOMEONE IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD OR A FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER WHO IS CATHOLIC AND ILL, CALL THE OFFICE TO INFORM FR. GLENN CHAREST SO THAT HE CAN GO TO THEM AND OFFER THE SACRAMENT OF ANOINTING (THE SACRAMENT OF THE SICK). THIS SACRAMENT IS INTENDED TO BE CELEBRATED WITH FOLKS WHEN THEY ARE ALERT AND CONSICIOUS SO THEY CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE HEALING PRESENCE OF CHRIST. IT IS NOT FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE AT “DEATH’S DOOR” WHEN THEY ARE INCAPABLE OF HEARING OR SPEAKING OR OF BEING AWARE OF THE LOVING PRESENCE OF THOSE WHO HAVE GATHERED AROUND THEM IN THEIR ILLNESS. -Fr. Glenn Charest Tax Season Volunteers Needed Catholic Charities of Central Florida is looking for volunteers to serve as greeters and tax preparers during the upcoming tax season. Part of a county-wide coalition to help low-income residents receive free tax preparation, Catholic Charities has sites throughout Polk County to increase access to this needed service. The service we provide is free, but dependent on volunteers to run. Because of our volunteers, some of our families used their tax refunds to prevent homelessness by paying down bills and banking an emergency nest egg, pay the down payment on a home, and improve overall financial stability. If you have four hours or more per week to spare during the tax season, please give Martha Murphy at 863.299.7983, ext. 104 a call. Volunteers are needed throughout Polk County, but particularly in WINTER HAVEN and HAINES CITY. Training is provided. Our 2nd Annual Italian Dinner night is coming up on January 22nd. ATTENTION PARISHIONERS The Annual Italian Dinner on January 22nd is still in need of some volunteers for the following areas: decorating, servers, kitchen clean up. Our next planning meeting will be on December 14th at 11:00 in the parish office dining room. For the volunteers there will be a tasting of the dinner to make sure it meets expectations, so don’t eat lunch. FYI the last two meetings will be on Jan 4th & 18th at 1:00 pm. Also, please call Barbara at 676-1513 to let us know you will be at the taste testing. Blood Drive at Holy Spirit Church! When you are 60 years old someone may ask you to do something big. * Don’t listen to critics: just get on with the job that needs to be done. *Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs. *Remember the arch was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals. *No matter the storm, when you are with God, there is always a rainbow waiting.
