Susana Balbo, also known to many as the
“Queen of Torrontés” or “Evita of Wine”
was one of the first argentine winemakers to
be hired as a consultant to make wine
outside of Argentina.
She has been
making wine since she earned her degree in
enology in 1981. Balbo has produced a
wider variety of wine than any other
winemaker in Argentina. She has been to a
variety of countries including Australia,
Chile, France, Italy, South Africa, Spain
and The United States studying and
making wine with local winemakers and
growers. After twenty years of studying
and consulting, Susana decided it was time

- malbec (Mahl-BEHK) Native to the southwest of France and specifically to Bordeaux, Malbec has
traditionally been considered a grape to be blended in minor proportion with Cabernet,

- carmenére (car-men-AIR) Sometimes called Bordeaux’s 6th grape and has primarily been used in Bordeaux blends.
This grape produces full bodied, full flavored, deeply colored wines. The wine is vegetal
and has predominant flavors of green pepper, pepper, and spices. It was introduced in
Chile where it is also known as (Grand Vidure). More than 150 years ago, where it thrived
largely due to Chile never having phylloxera as most of its vines are planted on native
rootstock. In Chile it is typically blended with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, although
it is increasingly being bottled as a single varietal wine. Carménère wines are deeply colored
and are usually well structured with smooth well rounded tannins and ripe berry fruit flavors.
