Estimada comunidad
de St. Hilda’s:
Sólo le queda una semana de
clases a este año académico
y uno tiende a pensar en todo
lo que pasó durante el mismo
y a disfrutar de los recuerdos.
En el discurso que pronunciaré en el Acto de Fin de Curso
de Secundaria cubriré los temas más destacados, pero en este comunicado deseo
dar especial mención a los alumnos de Año 12, los
graduados que finalizan su ciclo lectivo hoy (viernes
29 de noviembre).
La promoción 2014 está compuesta por 31 alumnos,
el grupo más grande en los últimos tiempos, con una
amplia variedad de intereses, fortalezas y personalidades. Fue eficazmente liderado por la Capitana Azul
Ongarato y el Vice Capitán Nicolás Díaz de la Torre,
que mostraron un gran entusiasmo y mucha energía
al momento de trabajar con los alumnos más jóvenes, generando espíritu de House en los eventos de
Interhouses, y otras actividades. Todos los días tengo
el privilegio de compartir el almuerzo con dos “prefects” que rotan diariamente, y es admirable su nivel
de madurez, del idioma inglés y compromiso con el
colegio. Creo que han establecido una vara muy alta
en cuanto la dedicación y a “tener puesta la camiseta
del colegio” y espero en que los próximos grupos se
esforzarán para igualar este nivel de entusiasmo y
compromiso con St. Hilda’s. Les deseo todo lo mejor
en sus vidas y futuras carreras y espero que retengan
el legado de St. Hilda’s en todo lo que hagan.
Uno de los aspectos de egresar y que a menudo se
pasa por alto, es que uno se convierte automáticamente en un miembro potencial de la Asociación de
Ex alumnos de St. Hilda´s. Cynthia Pini lidera nuestra
Asociación de Ex alumnos, la cual está creciendo en
número de miembros activos, y cada vez se ve más
su apoyo a eventos y programas del colegio. Disfruté
mucho leer el informe y ver las fotos de una reciente
reunión de ex alumnos en Londres, y espero enterarme de la participación de nuestros ex alumnos en muchos eventos más.
La semana pasada mencioné una serie de actividades
de fin de año que me pareció que, tanto padres como
miembros de la comunidad, estarían interesados en
conocer y asistir. Como se mencionara en comunicados anteriores, el jueves 11 de diciembre por la
noche en la Ceremonia de Fin de Año de Secundaria,

tenemos el honor de contar como orador invitado al
embajador del Reino Unido, el Dr. John Freeman junto con el apoyo del Obispo Venables, quien también
estará presente. Todos los miembros de la comunidad están invitados a compartir esta noche en la que
honraremos los logros de los alumnos y despediremos a varios miembros de nuestro personal con muchos años de docencia en el colegio. Sin embargo,
también quiero asegurarles que serán cálidamente
recibidos el martes 9 de diciembre en la entrega de
Diploma del Jardín de Infantes, y el miércoles 10 de
diciembre en el Acto de Fin de Curso de Primaria.

Year 7 - Proyectos de Inglés
Durante la semana del libro, los alumnos de 5º C organizaron una campaña para que la comunidad del
colegio donara libros.
Esta semana entregaron 115 libros a la Prof. Lic.
María Fernanda Grosso, quien también trabaja en
Secundaria en Santa Hilda, con el fin de ayudar y
colaborar con un proyecto de lectura y escritura para
niños y jóvenes del Instituto Parroquial Nuestra Señora de la Paz de Ciudad Oculta en Floresta.

En las clases de Year 7 de este año se han visto una
variedad de proyectos interesantes incluyendo Ébola,
La Primera Guerra Mundial, Toys R Us, Youtubers,
Sherlock Holmes, Juana de Arco, Nelson Mandela,
J. F. Kennedy, Diabetes, perros guía, Apolo XI, Apple
Graffiti, Shakespeare, el Met, Louvre, Origami, Pérez
Celis, Anonymous 4chan. Los alumnos tuvieron que
presentar sus trabajos en una variedad de formatos,
incluyendo presentaciones digitales y posters.
Las presentaciones orales son una oportunidad para
que los alumnos expongan a sus compañeros un
tema de su preferencia y de ser evaluados de acuerdo a criterios que incluían: contenidos, interés, dicción, claridad, información y gestión de materiales.
También recibieron el ya conocido “Assessment for
Learning” (Evaluación para el Aprendizaje) en forma
de feedback “dos estrellas y un deseo”.
Olimpíadas de Matemática Charito
En nuestra búsqueda constante de incentivar a los
alumnos en su aprendizaje, participamos desde el
año pasado en las Olimpíadas de Matemática Charito
para alumnos de 3º y 4º Año. Aunque les parezca
increíble, muchos de nuestros chicos se divirtieron
haciendo matemática. El jueves 27, en el Colegio San
Fernando se entregaron los premios. Alejo García
Zavaleta de 3º Año resultó campeón de su categoría

Concierto de Navidad - Invitación
Invitamos a alumnos, exalumnos, padres, personal y
amigos de la comunidad Santa Hilda a participar del
coro o la orquesta del tradicional Concierto de Navidad que se llevará a cabo el viernes 12 de diciembre
a las 20 hs en el Dining Room del colegio. Aquellos

Audiciones de alumnos
Queremos felicitar a todos los alumnos que presentaron sus progresos en las audiciones de fin de año.
Melodías, dúos, tríos y pequeños ensambles preparados junto a sus profesores fueron interpretados
con entusiasmo por los estudiantes de Primaria y
Secundaria. Un reconocimiento especial para aquellos alumnos que realizaron su última audición y
que han servido de ejemplo y modelo para los que
vienen siguiendo sus pasos.

del grupo. Estaban tan ansiosos que hasta querían

El próximo lunes partirá el grupo de 3º Año para realizar su campamento en el hermoso Palmar de Colón,
en Entre Ríos.

Semana de campamentos
Los alumnos de 2º Año disfrutaron el martes y miércoles de su campamento en General Rodríguez. Comienzan a familiarizarse con las actividades de leña,
armado y encendido de un fogón, y por supuesto, los
juegos en equipo para aprender el trabajo en grupo.
También para 1º Año realizamos el campamento aquí
en Hurlingham. Esta fue su primera experiencia en
carpa! Muy buen trabajo ya que pudieron armarla
Competencia de Escritura de St. Andrew’s
Nos complace anunciar que algunos de nuestros
alumnos han recibido premios en la Competencia
de Ensayo St. Andrew´s de este año.
En la categoría Elementary, Alanis Estathio obtuvo
un Certificado de Mérito y Julieta Enrico Ivaldi el 1º
premio.
En la categoría Junior, Natalia D’Agostino recibió un
Certificado de Mérito y Octavio Bermejo el 2º premio en su categoría.
Finalmente, en la categoría Senior, Mariana Strficek
obtuvo el 3º premio, Martina Enrico Ivaldi el 2º y Camila De Iacovo el 1º ¡Estamos orgullosos de todos
los participantes y felicitamos a los merecedores de
distinciones!

Estimados padres:
El fin del ciclo lectivo se acerca rápidamente, por lo que me dirijo a
ustedes para detallar el cronograma de eventos de fin de año.
Las clases continuarán hasta el viernes 5 de diciembre (excepto para
Año 12 que termina el viernes 28 de noviembre), fecha en la cual
todos los alumnos finalizarán su horario escolar regular. La semana
siguiente deberán asistir a su correspondiente ceremonia de Entrega
de Premios y, en las siguientes dos semanas hasta el viernes 19 de diciembre, a toda recuperación y orientación y mesas de exámenes que
deba rendir.
La semana que viene recibirán una carta más detallada con horarios
específicos de las Entregas de Premios y el Concierto de Navidad,
como así también información sobre las mesas de exámenes de dicembre para aquellos alumnos que deban rendir asignaturas para
aprobar el año.
Aprovecho esta oportunidad para agradecer, nuevamente, su apoyo
al Colegio St. Hilda’s en 2014. En las próximas semanas espero celebrar con todos ustedes el reconocimiento de los logros de nuestros
alumnos.

Headmaster’s Notes
Dear St. Hilda’s
community,
With only 1 full week of
school left in the academic
year, one’s thoughts naturally turn to reviewing the
year and enjoying the
memories that have been
generated through it. I
will be covering some of
these highlights in my speech at the Secondary
Prizegiving ceremony but in this newsletter I want
to specifically mention the Graduating Class of Yr
12 students who finish their academic work today
(Friday 29 November).
The Class of 2014 has 31 students in it, which is the
largest class group for some time, and it contains
a wide group of interests, strengths and personalities. The group has been well led by Head Girl
Azul Ongarato and Vice Captain Nicolás Díaz de la
Torre and they have shown much enthusiasm and
energy in working with younger students and engendering house spirit at house events etc. I have
the privilege of sharing lunch every day with a rotating roster of 2 prefects and their levels of maturity, English language and commitment to school
is admirable. I believe that they have set a very
high bar in terms of their application and “wearing
of the school camiseta” and I trust that the following year level groups endeavour to match their
enthusiasm and commitment to St Hilda’s. I wish
them all the very best in their future careers and
lives and hope that they will retain the ethos of St
Hilda’s in all they do.
An aspect of leaving St Hilda’s that is often glossed
over is the fact that once you leave, you automatically become a potential member of the Alumni
association. Cynthia Pini is leading our alumni
association who is growing in the number of active members, and is becoming more visible in
their support of school events and programmes.
I was delighted to view photos and read a report
of a recent gathering of alumni in London and I
look forward to seeing more of these events and
involvement from our past students.
Last week I mentioned a number of end of year
activities that I felt parents and community members would be interested in knowing about and
attending. As mentioned in previous newsletters,
we are honoured to have as our guest speaker at
the Secondary Prizegiving function on the evening
of Thursday 11 December the UK Ambassador, Dr

of the community are welcome to join us on this
evening as we honour student achievement and
take some moments to farewell several long serving members of the teaching staff. However, I do

on Tuesday 9 December and Primary Prizegiving
on Wednesday 10 December as well.

Year 7 English Projects
During Book Week 5º C students organized a campaign to collect books among the community. This
week 115 books were given to Lic. María Fernanda
Grosso, a teacher who works in St. Hilda’s Secondary School, to help with a reading and writing project for children and teenagers from the “Instituto
Parroquial Nuestra Señora de la Paz de Ciudad
Oculta” in Floresta.

This year the Year 7 English lessons have seen a

The oral presentations are an opportunity for the
students to present to their peers a subject of their
preference and of being assessed according to criteria which included content, appeal to audience,
diction, clarity, information and material management. They also received the now well-known
system of Assessment for Learning in the form of
“two stars and a wish” feedback.
‘Charito’ Mathematics Olympics
In our constant search to encourage students in
their learning, as from last year we have been participating in the Charito Mathematics Olympics for
students in Years 3 and 4. Although it might seem
unbelievable, many of our students had fun doing Maths. Prizes were awarded in San Fernando
school on Thursday 27. Alejo García Zavaleta, Year
3, was the champion in his category, and Heran
Mei and Bautista Gourdy Allende in Year 4 were

Christmas Concert - Invitation
We invite students, alumni, parents, staff and
friends of the St. Hilda’s community to participate
in the traditional Christmas Concert choir and orchestra which will be held on Friday, December 12
at 8 pm in the school Dining Room. For those who

Student Individual Performances
Congratulations to all students who showed their
musical progress at the end-of-year individual
performances. Primary and Secondary students
played with enthusiasm melodies, duets, trios and
small ensembles that were prepared together with
their teachers. A special mention goes to students
who performed for the last time and have served
as an example and model for those who are following in their footsteps.

a tent! They did a very good job setting them up
(with a little help from their teachers) which was a
very good cooperation activity among team members. They were so eager they even wanted to
have lunch inside the tents. This will also be their
first opportunity at zip-lining and walking on a suspension bridge.
Next Monday Year 3 will be going on their camp
trip to Palmar in Colón, Entre Ríos.

More camps...
Year 2 students enjoyed their camp in General
Rodriguez on Tuesday and Wednesday. They began to familiarize themselves with camp activities
such as: assembling a bonfire, wood selection and
lighting a fire and, of course, playing group games
to promote teamwork.
Year 1 also enjoyed their camp experience here
in Hurlingham. This was their first experience in
St. Andrew’s Essay Writing Competition
We are pleased to announce that some of our students obtained awards in this year’s St. Andrew's
Essay Writing Competition.
In the Elementary category, Alanis Estathio deserved a Certificate of Merit and Julieta Enrico
Ivaldi obtained 1st prize.
In the Junior Category, Natalia D’Agostino got a
Certificate of Merit and Octavio Bermejo 2nd prize.
Finally, in the Senior category Mariana Strficek
obtained 3rd prize, Martina Enrico Ivaldi 2nd prize
and Camila De Iacovo 1st. We are very proud of all

Dear parents,
As the end of the year rapidly approaches, I am writing to you to
clarify the end of year timeline and events.
Classes (except for Year 12 who finish on Friday 28 November) will
continue until Friday 5 December when all students will be released
from regular school timetable. Students are then expected to attend
their relevant Prizegiving function in the following week and any
orientations, recuperatorials or exams that are necessary over the following 2 weeks until Friday December 19.
A more detailed letter will follow next week with specific timings of
prizegivings and the Christmas Choral Concert, as well as information for those students who need to undertake a "December process"
in order to pass the year.
Can I take this opportunity to thank you again for your support of
St Hilda's College in 2014? I look forward to celebrating with you
all over the next weeks as we reflect on and acknowledge the achievements of our students.
