TITLE AND SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
Computational Intelligence/Statistical Machine Learning
The recruited candidate will join either the LFI or the MLIA team of LIP6.
LFI's research focuses on Computational Intelligence and is devoted to developing intelligent systems that perform
interpretable decisions.
MLIA develops different methodologies for tackling Statistical Machine Learning.
EURAXESS RESEARCH FIELD
Computer science
Other
TEACHING
Relevant teaching topics
Undergraduate and master’s level computer science
At least half of the successful applicant’s teaching responsibilities will be at the undergraduate level. He or
she will also participate in the master’s program in computer science, particularly in the Data, Learning and
Knowledge (DAC) specialty.
Teaching objectives and supervisory requirements
The new Data, Learning and Knowledge (DAC) specialty covers a wide range of practical and theoretical
topics within the field of data sciences and computational intelligence (databases, information retrieval,
artificial intelligence, statistical learning, symbolic learning, data mining, big data, business intelligence,
and digital humanities). The recruited candidate will be expected to teach topics related to his or her
specialty as well as take on training and supervisory responsibilities.
The successful applicant will also be involved in career guidance or professional development training for
undergraduates, especially by supervising internships.
The recruited candidate will be involved in the student research projects (AREs) for first-year students
as well as career guidance and workforce readiness training, particularly through the formal career guidance
and workforce readiness courses offered as part of the undergraduate curriculum.
RESEARCH
Research in the Department of Artificial Learning (DAPA) focuses on learning (automatic, statistic
and symbolic) and databases. This vacancy targets two research profiles, computational intelligence
and statistical learning, which will involve the LFI or MLIA teams, respectively, within the department.
The research topics associated with this position fall along two axes:
•
Computational intelligence: Artificial learning approaches, model-based reasoning with
imperfect knowledge (numero-symbolic models based on logical flow or non-probabilistic
models…). Learning models and accounting for dynamic environments.
•
Statistical learning: We welcome both formal and algorithmic approaches to statistical learning
and associated fields. Particular fields of interest include handling complex data, big data,
distributed learning, online learning and neuronal networks.
The successful applicant will strengthen and develop research projects and collaboration between the LFI
(Learning Fuzzy and Intelligent Systems) and MLIA (Machine Learning and Information Access) teams
in their existing research and applied fields, which include e-health, intelligent sensors, artificial perception,
affective computing, ecotechnology and data science.
