Red nacional de hospitales informa a
hispanos sobre la prevención del cáncer

El cáncer es la principal causa
de muerte de los hispanos en los
Estados Unidos, según la Sociedad
Americana de Cáncer.
Con el propósito de concientizar
a la comunidad hispana de San
Antonio, José Minguez, asesor para
pacientes hispanos del Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA),
una red nacional de hospitales que se
enfocan en el tratamiento de cáncer,
viajó a la Ciudad del Álamo desde
Oklahoma para alertar a líderes
hispanos en la comunidad sobre la
importancia de la prevención de

los abuelos de Minguez también
murieron a causa de la misma enfermedad.
“El interés de ayudar a gente con
cáncer nació así”, explicó.

This is the time of year that
brings out the little kid in most of
us. Friday is Halloween and that
means little ghosts and goblins.
If there are none in your house
chances are you have the fourlegged kids.
With that in mind, Lisa Norwood from Animal Care Services
has some safety tips to insure you
keep pets safe this Howl-O-Ween.
Although Halloween is traditionally a family-oriented holiday a
lot of us like to include pets in the
festivities. Good intentions can go
bad if you don’t keep in mind the
many dangers pets can face at this
time of year. Remember these tips
as your family enjoys the trick or
treating season:

Long lost parts of San Antonio is
finally coming home.
Phil Collins’ multi-million dollar
collection of Alamo artifacts has
finally arrived in San Antonio after
the British pop star announced he
would be donating the collection to
the Alamo earlier this year.
The former Genesis drummer
said that 99.9 percent of his collection arrived Tuesday. It will be inventoried and put on display within
the next several weeks according
to Texas Land Commissioner Jerry
Patterson.
Pallets of artifacts were unloaded
from a truck and taken into the Gallagher House at 723 E. Houston St.,

Lanier High School Class of 1964 is looking for graduates to attend

CANCER IS ONE CANCER SUPPORT GROUP – The cancer
support group holds its 2014 Annual Toy Drive. It runs from November 1, 2014 - December 14, 2014. All toys collected will be
distributed to children affected cancer that are hospitalized. Toys
will also be handed out to children afflicted by cancer at C.I.O.C.s
annual Christmas Party. Every Sunday in November and December
donations may be dropped off at C.I.O.C.s office at 123 Octavia.

FREE LANDFILL DISPOSAL DAY –The City’s quarterly
cleanup event, Free Landfill Disposal Day, will take place on
Saturday, November 1, 2014 at numerous locations from 8 a.m.1 p.m. Residents who need to dispose of unwanted items such
as broken furniture, worn out mattresses or other bulky items
with some exceptions (no contractor, commercial, industrial or
hazardous waste) should bring a recent copy of their CPS Energy
utility bill along with a picture ID to enter the landfills and other
participating locations.
LA VILLITA’S DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS - The public is invited
to celebrate Día de los Muertos in the heart of downtown at La

Children’s Museum celebrates
construction with community

As the Children’s Museum of
San Antonio, now known as “The
Do Seum,” wraps up its exterior
building process, the new museum
will celebrate their hard work with
a Construction Completion Bash on
Wednesday, Oct. 29.
The bash commemorates an important milestone for the city’s new
children’s museum, which plans
for a grand opening in June 2015.
The museum welcomes families
and individuals to celebrate the
new museum with guided tours,
food, refreshments, and entertainment for all ages. Event tickets cost
$75 each, and include free drinks
for adults, music by the Flying
Balalaika Brothers, and an appearance from Giani, a local mentalist.
“This will give people will get
a firsthand look as to where we
are with the building — they can
see the details, the flooring, the
chandeliers; this is essentially a
sneak preview as to what they can
expect in June,” Erin Jines, the
San Antonio Children’s Museum’s
individual giving manager said.
The Do Seum offers attendees a
chance to experience the museum’s
playful and interactive learning approach with fun games including
a Dunk Tank, Master Striker, and
Super Football Toss.

Keepin’ it crafty for Halloween

For last-minute Halloween
shoppers, a trip to the costume
store can quickly turn into an expensive and ill-fitting nightmare.
If you’re not in the mood to fight
over the last Princess Elsa or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle costume
this year, you’re not alone.
A recent survey by Goodwill
found that more than 60 percent
of women and 57 percent of men
prefer DIY costumes to pre-made
outfits.
The poll also found that many
Halloween goers are looking for
funny (17 percent), minimalist
(17 percent), and unique (14 percent) costumes. Eleven percent
of Americans go for classic costumes, and 10 percent preferred
couple’s costumes.
Although superheroes, vampires, zombies and pirates remain
the most popular costume choices,
more trick-or-treaters are finding
options outside the traditional
retail outlets.

stores and thrift shops like Texas
Thrift and Goodwill allow for
costume customization.
“Look for individual pieces that
you can put together to create an
awesome look,” Evette Rios, a
lifestyle expert and Goodwill
spokesperson said. “Stores get
new inventory every day. Customers should check back regularly
to find the Halloween pieces they
need without breaking the bank.”

San Antonio Fashion Week starts this weekend

Though the weather is barely
starting to get chilly in the mornings, the creative minds behind
what’s the latest and greatest in
fashion are hard at work putting
together the new trends for the
upcoming spring and summer
seasons.
Although Fashion Week takes
place during September in major
cities all over the world, San Antonio Fashion Week kicks off this
weekend on Nov. 1 through Nov.
7 with over 12 events going on at
101 S. Santa Rosa.
All seven days, Arte of Fashion
Gallery on Houston will be open
daily with free admission with
an exhibit that spreads through
several blocks of Houston St. It
is described as a “dynamic avant
garde exhibition exploring fashion
as an art form and celebrates the
interconnected roles of fashion
visionaries as artist.”

Rampage comanda división oeste

El plantel Rampage de San
Antonio, asociado a la American
Hockey League (AHL), en su primera gira de la temporada 2014 AHL
(con cuatro victorias consecutivas)
se ha apoderado del liderato de la
división oeste en la Conferencia
del Oeste.
Bajo la dirección del entrenador
en jefe Tom Rowe, este miércoles
en Glens Falls (Nueva York) Rampage tratará de ganar su quinto partido cuando enfrente al rival local
Flames de Adirondack.
Este encuentro será de gran importancia para la franquicia Silver
& Black que, con los valiosos servicios del veterano arquero Dan Ellis,
se ha destacado ganándole partidos
a los locales Barons de Oklahoma
City, Comets de Utica (Nueva
York) y a los Bulldogs de Hamilton, de Ontario (Canadá), cuadro al
que derrotaron en su doble partido
jugados en el FirstOntario Center.
El sábado 25 de octubre Rampage doblegó a los Bulldogs con

La Prensa’s NBA power rankings, predictions

La Prensa put together a list of
the top teams in the NBA’s Western and Eastern Conferences. See
where the hometown San Antonio
Spurs and the new-look Cleveland
Cavaliers ranked.
East Predictions
1. Chicago Bulls
Don’t let the Cleveland hype
fool you. The Chicago Bulls are the
deepest team in the East, and easily
the most versatile in the Derrick
Rose era. With the offseason signing of veteran big Pau Gasol, draft
selection of sharp shooter Doug
McDermott and the acquisition of
Nikola Mirotic from Real Madrid,
Chicago has depth at virtually every
position. Even if Rose struggles
with health restrictions, the supporting cast is strong enough to carry the
team to Chicago’s first NBA Finals
berth in over 17 years.
2. Toronto Raptors
In a sport where the preseason
is often overlooked, it would be
easy to miss the Toronto Raptors.
Toronto lost only one game, and
boasted the best record prior to regular season play. While Cleveland
received all the preseason credit, the
Raptors flew under the radar, quietly
collecting wins. Could Toronto be
the dark horse of the East?
During last year’s playoffs, Toronto was blinded by the lights of
the national stage in a Game 7 loss
to veteran Brooklyn Nets. Over the
offseason, Kyle Lowry and DeMar
DeRozan have had time to mature
and develop. The young roster
remains consistent and is built on
stability and depth.
3. Cleveland Cavaliers
The simplest way to improve your
product is to copy the competition.
Cleveland has adapted this business
model and morphed their roster into
the Miami Heat 2.0 — establishing
their own “Big 3”, surrounding the
talent with versatile veterans and
young prospects, and hyping the city
with promises of a dynasty.
The biggest red flags are the
health issues, and the lack of depth
in the paint. Due to persistent injuries, Kyrie Irving and trade pick-up
Kevin Love have yet to play a
complete season. LeBron James’
health remains steadfast, but as he
approaches his 30s, the 11 years of
season and post-season play could
slowly wear down his body.
West Predictions
1. San Antonio Spurs
What can be said about the San
Antonio Spurs that hasn’t already
been said?
They are a team of destiny, one of
the greatest franchises of all-time.
They have made the playoffs an
inconceivable 17-straight seasons,
won five titles in the last 15 years,
and kept the core consistent throughout the years.
The rest of the league is still trying
to play catch-up ball to San Antonio’s blueprint of success. After
a NBA Finals upset to the Miami
Heat in the 2012-2013 campaign,
San Antonio fought back last season with a vengeance to slaughter
Miami in five games to earn their
fifth title. The Spurs championship
roster remains mostly intact. Firstround draft pick Kyle Anderson will
provide even more depth with his
versatility and slowed-down style
of offense.
2. Los Angeles Clippers
The Clippers hope to stamp their
legacy on Los Angeles by earning
their first conference title and championship in franchise history. In
order to extinguish the Lakers spotlight, who have illuminated the city
in a swash of purple and gold for
decades, the Clippers need to start
winning consistently. Los Angeles
loves a winner, and the city’s residents expect nothing less. When one
analyzes the Clippers roster, it’s like
a sports fan fell asleep and woke up
in a bizarro world where the Lakers
and Clippers switched franchises.
The Clippers boast a whose-who of
basketball personnel. Keep an eye
on Blake Griffin, who emerged last
season amongst the NBA’s elite. If
Chris Paul is healthy, there is no
reason that Doc Rivers’ Clips can’t
make a deep playoff bid.
3. Dallas Mavericks
Dallas’s new-look roster is eerily
similar to their 2011 championship
team. Dallas scored the biggest win
in the West over the offseason trading for reliable big Tyson Chandler,
and stealing Chandler Parsons and

el miembro sería afectado y como los intereses que el grupo desea proteger son pertinentes al propósito del grupo.
Después del cierre de los períodos para los pedidos y comentarios, el Director Ejecutivo enviará la solicitud y los pedidos para reconsideración o por una audiencia
administrativa de lo contenciosos a los Comisionados de la TCEQ para su consideración en una reunión programada de la Comisión.
La Comisión otorgará solamente un audiencia administrativa de lo contencioso sobre los hechos reales disputados del caso que son pertinentes y esenciales para
la decisión de la Comisión sobre la solicitud. Además, la Comisión sólo otorgará una audiencia administrativa de lo contencioso sobre los asuntos que fueron presentados antes del plazo de vencimiento y que no fueron retirados posteriormente. Si ciertos criterios se cumplen, la TCEQ puede actuar sobre una solicitud para
renovar un permiso para descargar aguas residuales sin proveer una oportunidad de una audiencia administrativa de lo contencioso.
LISTA DE CORREO. Si somete comentarios públicos, un pedido para una audiencia administrativa de lo contencioso o una reconsideración de la decisión del Director Ejecutivo, la Oficina del Secretario Principal enviará por correo los avisos públicos en relación con la solicitud. Ademas, puede pedir que la TCEQ ponga su
nombre en una or mas de las listas correos siguientes (1) la lista de correo permanente para recibir los avisos de el solicitante indicado por nombre y número del
