n some countries, much consideration is given as to how a person dresses. People are judged by the
clothes they wear. In certain places of employment there is a dress code and for example, there are things
and types of shoes that can only be worn on Fridays and clothes that are used during the week. There are
still many restaurants that require a jacket and tie. Are these dress codes important? It may not seem like
it, but in a way it reflects a person’s attitude in certain situations. You wouldn’t attend a wedding in shorts
or wear a tie to the beach. Everything has its place. The way a person dresses indicates if there is respect for the event and how one is viewed. And what do we wear to a banquet with God? The king in the
parable becomes upset that many in his party members were not wearing appropriate attire. But if they
happened to be people from the streets invited at the last minute, understandably they did not have time to
change into something different. Or is the parable referring to something else? Maybe it is referring to the
dignity and respect with which one enters a banquet. The banquet announced in the first reading is a sign
of hope in God’s restoration when we feel oppressed or anguished, crushed as the Israelites felt when
seized by their enemies. This banquet is announced again in the New Testament as the Eucharist and as a
garment for the future. Heaven will be God’s grand banquet. Who wouldn’t want to attend a banquet? It
would seem absurd to reject such an invitation, unless we do not like the host of the banquet or are afraid
they will have to return the hospitality in some way. Those who received the call did not go and the people
that went did not have the right disposition. It may seem weird but don’t we behave this way sometimes?
How many times have be received God’s call—which always promise abundant life—and we have something better to do? How many times have we done something simply because we had to, but without any enthusiasm or love, without sincerity and
trust? Attending a banquet without the proper attire is like assisting an
event without caring about who invited you. It is taking advantage of the
banquet without showing an ounce of gratitude toward the host. We must
attend God’s banquet with profound loyalty and with love in response to the
extravagant love we are given. We cannot allow ourselves to give a

En algunos países se cuida mucho la vestimenta. Se juzga a las
personas por su manera de vestir. En algunos trabajos existen normas de vestir. Hay prendas o tipos de calzado que no se pueden
usar en la semana. Hay restaurantes donde hay que ir con traje y
corbata. ¿Son importantes estos códigos? No parecería, pero en
cierto modo, reflejan la actitud de la persona en las diversas situaciones. No se iría a una boda con pantalones cortos, o a la playa
con corbata. Cada cosa tiene su momento. La manera de vestir
indica si hay respeto por el acontecimiento y cómo se considera.
¿Y para entrar al banquete de Dios? El rey de la parábola se
indigna porque algunos no llevaban el traje apropiado. Pero si eran
gente de la calle, invitado a última hora para la fiesta, lógicamente
no habrían tenido tiempo de vestir de otra manera. ¿O se refiera a
otra cosa? Quizá se refiera, más bien, a la actitud, a la dignidad y
respeto con que se entra al banquete. El banquete anunciado en la
primera lectura es como un signo de esperanza de la restauración
de Dios en un momento de agobio y angustia, abrumados como
estaban los israelitas por el asedio de sus enemigos. Este banquete
se vuelve a anunciar en el Nuevo Testamento como Eucaristía y
como prenda del futuro. El
cielo será el gran banquete de
Dios.¿Quién no querría acudir a
un banquete? Parece absurdo
rechazar una invitación así. A
no ser que no se le tenga ninguna simpatía al anfitrión, o que
se tema el compromiso de tener
que responder a la hospitalidad de alguna manera. Los que recibieron la llamada no acudieron. Y algunos de los que acudieron,
iban sin la disposición correcta. Parece raro, pero ¿no somos
nosotros a veces un poco así? ¿Cuántas veces hemos recibido una
llamada de Dios—que siempre promete vida abundante—y teníamos algo más que hacer? ¿Cuántas veces hemos hecho algo solamente porque “teníamos que hacerlo,” pero sin entusiasmo y sin
amor, sin sinceridad, con desconfianza? Acudir al banquete sin el
traje apropiado es ir sin amor por quien invita. Es ir a aprovecharse
de la fiesta, pero sin poner ni un gramo de respuesta agradecida al
anfitrión. Al banquete de Dios se va con una lealtad profunda, con
amor en respuesta al amor que tan extravagantemente se nos da.
No podemos permitirnos nada menos.
Para la reflexión
¿Cómo puedo ponerme el traje necesario para estar con Dios? En
qué áreas de mi vida tendría que estar dando una respuesta más
sincera, firme, clara y fiel?

RETIRO PARA MATRIMONIOS
¿Qué es un Retiro? Se trata de un encuentro de un fin de semana para
ayudar a las personas a encontrase a sí mismas, reencontrar a su pareja
y juntas encontrar a Dios. Es un espacio de silencio y confianza para
revisar la vida en pareja.

• No es una terapia de grupo.
• No es un retiro donde te la pasas sólo rezando.
• No es un espacio para enterar a los demás de
los propios problemas.

día a otro.
¿Sólo casados por la Iglesia Católica pueden asistir? No necesariamente!, pueden asistir parejas que sólo vivan juntos, casados sólo por el
