Amen 521 3 My Dear Parishioners, Feast of the Holy Family December 27, 2015 Today, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Holy Family: the Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. It was an awesome event my dear friends, that God the Father chose His Son to be born in a human family. Think about the trust that God the Father put in Joseph and Mary, when he entrusted his Only Begotten Son to them! Think about the kind of father and mother they were! My dear friends the life of the family is rooted in the unconditional love of God, as witnessed by the Holy Family. The family and as a result the institution of Marriage, have been under grave attacks, throughout the world and in our country. They are a lot of people who want and who are trying very hard to make us believe, that a family can also be made of two moms or two dads. Indeed, my dear friends, our beloved and belated Holy Father Pope Saint John Paul II, in his Apostolic Letter “Rosarium Virginis Mariae”, “On the Most Holy Rosary”, which he wrote in 2002, asked us to pray the Rosary for families because of the attack on the family: “A similar need for commitment and prayers arises in relation to another critical contemporary issue: ‘the family’, the primary cell of society, increasingly menaced by forces of disintegration on both the ideological and practical planes, so as to make us fear for the future of this fundamental and indispensable institution and, with it, for the future of society as a whole. The revival of the Rosary in Christian families, within the context of a broader pastoral ministry to the family, will be an effective aid to countering the devastating effects of this crisis typical of our age.” (Rosarium Virginis Mariae ¶ 6). Indeed my dear friends how true are those words from Pope St. John Paul II, today! We are facing a crisis in society, concerning the divine institution of Marriage, and we must be vigilant in standing firm in our commitment to helping families, and defending the institution of Marriage that has been established by God. As you know my dear friends, on June 26 of this year, the U.S. Supreme Court in a decision of 5 to 4, legalized same sex marriage in our country, “a tragic error that harms the common good and most vulnerable among us,” as stated by Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz of Louisville, Kentucky, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, in his statement released on that same day. As you may recall my dear friends, three years ago on the Feast of the Holy Family, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops called for a nationwide effort to advance a movement for Life, Marriage, and Religious Liberty through prayer, penance and sacrifice. This call to prayer was prompted by unprecedented challenges to the Church and the nation, particularly the HHS Mandate and current trends in government and culture toward redefining Marriage. This Call to Prayer for life, Marriage and Religious Liberty had five components: 1)- Monthly Eucharistic Holy Hours in cathedrals and parishes; 2)-Daily Rosary by families and individuals; 3)-Special Prayers of the Faithful at all Masses; 4)- Fasting and abstinence from meat on Fridays; 5)- A Fortnight for Freedom in June /July 2013, and this year June/July 2016. My dear friends, as we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family today on this Jubilee Year of Mercy, and as we begin the 2016 New Year this coming Friday January 1, the Solemnity of Mary Mother of God, may we have recourse to our dear Heavenly Mother, as we celebrate her Motherhood! More than ever, we need her maternal care and her maternal protection for families and the institution of Marriage! Let us implore God’s Mercy and pray to Our Lady, the Mother of God and our Mother, the Mother of Mercy, for the protection of Life (especially Life in the womb), Marriage and Religious Liberty! Please pray the Rosary everyday throughout the year! May the Lord, the Prince of peace, the Son of Mary and Joseph, bless you all with peace, joy, love, and may he also bless you with a deep renewal of your Catholic Faith throughout this New Year and this Year of Mercy! HAPPY NEW YEAR 2016!!!¡FELIZ AÑO NUEVO 2016!!! BONNE ET HEUREUSE ANNÉE 2016!!! Love, Reverend Msgr. Beaubrun Ardouin (Msgr. This Jubilee Year promises to be a time of grace for the Universal Church. I have designated six other Archdiocesan Parishes and Shrines as “Pilgrim Churches.” Each of these Pilgrim Churches will enable the faithful to gain a Plenary Indulgence under the same conditions as those at the Cathedral Basilica. The Pilgrim Churches are: Saint Francis Xavier, Newark Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus, Linden Divine Mercy, Rahway Our Lady of mercy, Park Ridge Most Sacred heart of Jesus, Wallington Our Lady of Mercy, Jersey City The Parish of Saint Leo invites you to our New Year’s Celebration this coming Thursday, December 31st at 8:00 pm. Show us your face and we will be saved. Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things; made Peter weep after his betrayal, and assured Paradise to the repentant thief. Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman: “If you knew the gift of God!” You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified. You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God. Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord, and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind. We ask this through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy, you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen. Amen. 521 7 Commercial Rates are at an All Time Low.
