un grupo de expertos a organizar un encuentro
internacional, probablemente sin sospechar la importancia que lograría esa iniciativa con el paso
de los años.
Desde aquella primera vez, en Londres en 1952,
ya han pasado más de seis décadas, tiempo su½GMIRXI TEVE GSRWSPMHEV EP 'SRKVIWS HIP -14'
como un imperdible para toda la industria relacionada con el procesamiento de minerales.
Hoy, el IMPC es considerado como el foro mundial más prestigioso en el campo de la promoción
HIPGSRSGMQMIRXSGMIRXu½GS]XqGRMGSIRIPTVSGIsamiento de minerales y la metalurgia extractiva,
gracias a las 26 versiones de su congreso internacional realizadas hasta ahora.
Pero la edición N°27 es especial. Después de más
de tres décadas, el congreso retorna a Sudamérica para llegar por primera vez a Chile, un líder
mundial en minería, que ya tiene todo dispuesto
para recibir a más de 1.000 profesionales y académicos de la industria minera, provenientes de

Los preparativos para el Congreso IMPC 2014 se
iniciaron hace seis años, previo a la 24° versión del
congreso realizada en Beijing, China, en septiembre
de 2008. Ese año, un consorcio formado entre las universidades de Chile, de Concepción, y Federico Santa
María, además del Colegio de Ingenieros de Chile y la
empresa Gecamin, permitió presentar la candidatura
del país ante el Consejo del IMPC, en competencia
con Brasil y Canadá. Después de esa presentación

Preparations for the IMPC 2014 Congress began six years ago, prior to the 24 th version of
the congress held in Beijing, China, in September 2008. That year, a consor tium amongst the
University of Chile, the University of Concepcion
and the Federico Santa María University, in addition to the Chilean Council of Engineers and the
company Gecamin were allowed to submit the
application of the countr y before the IMPC Council to compete with Brazil and Canada. After
the official presentation, Chile and Canada were
shor tlisted and invited to submit final proposals
at the IMPC’s 25 th version in September 2010 in
Brisbane, Australia.

para IMPC 2014
Asistentes
Más de mil par ticipantes vinculados al procesamiento de
minerales de 50 países se encuentran en Santiago para asistir
a la versión número 27 del Congreso IMPC 2014, que se
realiza en el Hotel Sheraton de Santiago, entre el
lunes 20 y viernes 24 de octubre.
Trabajos técnicos
Casi 500 trabajos técnicos estarán presentes en el congreso,
350 de los cuales serán presentados en las sesiones técnicas,
mientras que otros 140 se presentarán en formato poster.
Agenda
El programa considera 9 sesiones plenarias y 17 presentaciones
“keynotes”, además de un simposio de sustentabilidad. Durante

Over a thousand participants involved in mineral processing are coming from
50 countries to Santiago to attend the 27th version of the IMPC, held at the
Sheraton Hotel, between Monday October 20th and Friday October 24th.

Papers
Nearly 500 papers will be presented at the conference, 350 of which will be
presented orally in the technical sessions, while another 140 will be presented
in poster format.
Agenda
The program includes 9 plenary sessions, 17 keynote presentations, and a
sustainability symposium. The weekend prior to the congress (October 18-19)
3 short courses will take place and on Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th,
technical visits near Santiago are available.
Technical visits
On Friday the 24th site visits to Las Tórtolas and El Soldado, both Anglo
American; and a third visit to Minera Valle Central are scheduled. On Saturday
the 25th there will be a visit to the Sewell mining town, a UNESCO world
heritage site. All visits are one full day.
Venue
The Sheraton Hotel and Convention Center in Santiago will host the 27th
version of the IMPC. Nestled at the base of San Cristobal Hill in the
Providencia district, the hotel is located only 15 minutes from the Santiago
International Airport, and near the metro station Pedro de Valdivia.

The conference is organized jointly by the Department of Mining
Engineering, University of Chile; Department Metallurgical Engineering,
University of Concepción; Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María;
the Chilean Council of Engineers; and the company Gecamin.
Southern Cross
The IMPC 2014 logo originated from the Andean cosmovision concept.
This concept explains the perception and interpretation through which the
indigenous inhabitants of the Andean region experience their natural and
cultural environment. The cosmovision is based on the Southern Cross
constellation, formed by the stars Alfa, Beta, Gamma and Delta, and is the
most important symbol of the indigenous cultures in the Andean region
as it is present in all of their iconographic designs.

a nivel internacional está ganando terreno, es la minería urbana. El
reciclaje de productos electrónicos desechados abre las puertas
a una nueva tendencia para recuperar metales y minimizar el

Urban mining is one issue that has not generated much
debate in Chile but is gaining ground internationally. The
recycling of discarded electronic products opens the
door to a new trend for metal recover y while minimizing

El trabajo para organizar el Congreso IMPC 2014 en Santiago se
inició hace seis años, previo a la 24° versión del evento realizada
en Beijing, China (septiembre 2008). Fue un largo camino y un
arduo trabajo de dos años que concluyó en 2010, cuando Chile
quedó seleccionado como país sede de la versión N° 27 del
congreso.
The work to organize the International Mineral Processing
Congress (IMPC 2014) in Santiago began six years ago, prior
to the 24th version of the congress held in Beijing, China
(September 2008). A 2-year road paved with hard work ended in 2010, when Chile was selected to host the IMPC’s 27th
edition.

Con un contexto global y cambiante, la organización buscó apoyarse en la propia historia de los congresos para involucrar al
máximo a autores, participantes e instituciones comprometidas

The audience attending the IMPC 2014 Conference, which will
be composed of about 1,000 people from around the world,
