Like Peter, at times, we want to respond to the presence of God by making a quick response, such as “Let us make three tents”! The Lord may not want us to respond so quickly, just to have something to say or do. Rather, God the Father speaks to us and says, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.” Listening to Jesus is to become more and more attuned to him in prayer, so that we can allow his commandments, his will for us, to mold and shape our ways of thinking. To listen to Jesus, is to strengthen our wills, by choosing to reject making temptation into sin, and by choosing the good, so that Divinity can grasp and shine through our humanity. This week reflect on how you are preparing to renew your baptismal promises at Easter. Father Lee Roos R ITE OF S UNDAY M ASS AND THE C HRISTIAN I NITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA) What is a “Scrutiny”? The scrutinies, which are solemnly celebrated on Sundays and are reinforced by an exorcism, are rites for self-searching and repentance and have above all a spiritual purpose. The scrutinies are meant to uncover, then heal all that is weak, defective, or sinful in the hearts of the elect (the unbaptized preparing for Christian initiation at the Easter Vigil); to begin to bring out, then strengthen all that is upright, strong, and good. The scrutinies are celebrated in order to deliver the elect from the power of sin and Satan, to protect them against temptation, and to give them strength in Christ, who is the way, the truth, and the life. These rites, therefore, should complete the conversion of the elect and deepen their resolve to hold fast to Christ and to carry out their decision to love God above all. (RCIA #141) The scrutiny rites are celebrated on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Sundays of Lent and will be celebrated at Masses on Saturdays, 5:30pm and Sundays, 7:30, 9:30, and 11:30am on March 7-8, 14-15, and 21-22. Pray for our elect, Catholics who are completing their initiation sacraments, and candidates for full communion in the Church as they approach the initiation sacraments at Easter. All men of the parish are invited to the 6th annual diocesan Men’s Conference on Saturday, March 7th. This year’s conference – V ictory over the Common Enemy – will feature renowned speaker Fr.
