MISIÓN PARROQUIAL
MISSION STATEMENT
We, the people of St. John XXIII, are a multi-ethnic Roman Catholic
parish (founded on July 1, 2006) formed from the union of the Church
of the Resurrection, Fontana and St. Thomas More, Rialto. We seek
to nourish the Gospel of Jesus Christ in all families and people, so that
they can rejoice in the love of God in this life and in the life to come.
We endeavor to do this by fostering: an authentic Christian Stewardship, the Christian education of our youth and adults through Resurrection Academy and other programs, outreach to the poor and needy, and
the celebration of the sacraments, especially the Holy Eucharist.

FR. IMO’S REFLECTION CORNER
CELEBRATING LENT AS GOD’S LOVE FOR HUMANITY (2)
In our last reflection we discussed about the forgiving
love of God. This week we wish to reflect on how God wants
us to share his forgiving love. He initiated forgiveness as a way
to rid the world of revenge and then build a society of peace
and love. During his earthly ministry, Jesus taught his disciples
how to pray to God and ask his forgiveness for their sins while
ready to forgive others. He added “For if you forgive men their
trespasses, your heavenly Father also will forgive you; but if
you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father
forgive your trespasses” (Matt 6:14-15). At the end he gave up
his life for the remission of the sins of the world. Then after his
resurrection, not only did Jesus give the Apostles the ability to
forgive sins in his name, he commanded them to preach
“repentance and forgiveness of sins” to all nations (Jn 20:21-23;
Lk 24:47). It is through forgiveness that the Church continues
to make the love and mercy of God available to Christians till
date. In his letter to Christians in Corinth Paul said: “Christ has
reconciled us to God and gave us the ministry of reconciliation” (2 Cor. 5:18-19). It is this forgiveness of God in his son
that we celebrate this Lent. It then becomes a wasteful exercise
if we celebrate the forgiving love of God at the expense of
Christ and fail to be part of what we celebrate.
“Forgiveness,” I must say, “is not easy.” It is not easy
to forgive the person who injured or abused you without asking
for forgiveness. It is difficult to forgive the person who offended you, and still threatens to deal with you. It is not easy to
forgive the arrogant offender who cares less about the trouble
he puts you into! It is not easy to forgive the person who killed
one of your beloved relations! It is not easy to forgive the person who falsely accused you of what you did not do and in the
process present a false image of you to the public. These and
similar situations may make forgiveness difficult to handle.
The expression of our human response to these situations is not
something we can take for granted. Basic Counseling has it that
when a person denies her feelings and sets aside her wounds,
pain, anger, and grief in order to forgive, she often finds that
she is not able to heal. Ultimately, in the absence of healing,
forgiveness doesn’t last. What are we to do then? First, we
need to take stock of our relationship with people to see where
we stand. Are there people you have offended who are yet to
forgive you? Are you hurting from any offence that you are yet
to forgive?
From the above, it looks like forgiveness entails a lot. Before we talk about how to forgive our neighbor, let us see if there is
any good reason why we should forgive. Does God know about our
pains that make it difficult to forgive? Why must we forgive wicked
people who do not have our well-being at heart? Does forgiveness not
mean condoning sin? Why is it important to forgive? Unforgiveness
is a jumble of emotions. Unforgiving spirit inspires war, traumatizes
entire nations, destroys marriages, divides families, ruins friendships,
splits churches, and poisons communities. It is natural to be angry
when something goes wrong but the problem comes when it grows
from anger to resentment, to bitterness and hostility. Resentment as a
constant and deep seeded anger becomes toxic and corrodes our system. Before you know it, it begins to breed depression, sadness and
insensitivity. When this happens the person gradually becomes isolated and miserable as people find it difficult to relate with him or her at
the level of his negativity. The damage such a chronic emotional state
can do to our health is very enormous. According to some psychologists, forgiveness is good for our heart, and brings lower heart rate,
blood pressure and stress relief.

CELEBRANDO LA CUARESMA COMO EL AMOR DE
DIOS PARA LA HUMANIDAD (2)
En nuestra última reflexión hablamos sobre el amor de
Dios que perdona. Esta semana queremos reflexionar sobre
como Dios quiere que compartamos su amor que perdona. Él
inició el perdón como una forma de librar al mundo de la
venganza y construir una sociedad de paz y amor. Durante su
ministerio terrenal, Jesús enseño a sus discípulos cómo orar a
Dios y pedirle perdón por sus pecados mientras listos para perdonar a los demás. El agrego “ Porque si ustedes perdonan a los
hombres sus ofensas, tambien el Padre celestial les perdonara a
ustedes. Pero si ustedes no perdonan a los demas, tampoco el
Padre les perdonara a ustedes” (Mateo 6:14-15). Al final dio su
vida para la remisión de los pecados del mundo. Después de su
resurrección, no sólo Jesús dio a los apóstoles la capacidad de
perdonar los pecados en su nombre, los mandó a predicar
“arrepentimiento y el perdón de los pecados” a todas las
naciones (Juan 20:21-23: Lucas 24:47). Es a través del perdón
que la Iglesia continua la disposición del amor y la misericordia
de Dios a los Cristianos hasta la fecha. En su carta a los Cristianos en Corintios Pablo dijo: “Todo eso es obra de Dios, que
nos reconcilio con el en Cristo y que a nosotros nos encomienda
el mensaje de la reconciliacion” (2-Corintios 5:18-19). Es este
perdón de Dios en su hijo que celebramos esta Cuaresma. Se
convierte entonces en un ejercicio sin sentido si celebramos el
perdon del amor de Dios a expensas de Cristo y fallamos en ser
parte de lo que celebramos.
“ Perdonar”, debo decir, “no es facil”, no es facil perdonar a
la persona que ha lesionado o abusado sin pedir perdon. Es dificil perdonar a la person que te ofendio, y que todavia te amenaza a tartar
contigo. No es facil perdonar al arrogante que se preocupa menos por
las molestias que te hace pasar! No es facil perdonar a la persona que
mato a uno de tus seres queridos! No es facil perdonar a la persona que
falsamente te acuso de algo que tu no hiciste y en el proceso present
una imagen falsa de ti al public. Estas y situaciones similares pueden
hacer que el perdon sea dificil de manejar. La expression de nuestra
respuesta humana a estas situaciones no es algo que podemos tomar en
entender. Asesoría básica tiene que cuando una persona niega sus sentimientos y pone a lado sus heridas, dolor, coraje, y el dolor para perdonar, y menudo encuentra que no es capaz de sanar. Ultimamente, en
ausencia de sanar, el perdonar no dura mucho. ¿Qué debemos hacer
entonces? Primero, necesitamos hacer un balance de nuestra relación
con la gente para ver dónde estamos parados. ¿Existen personas que
has ofendido y que todavía necesitan perdonarte? ¿Te duele alguna
ofensa que todavia no has perdonado?
De lo mencionado, parece que el perdón implica mucho.
Antes de hablar de cómo perdonar a nuestro prójimo, vamos a ver si
hay alguna buena razón por qué debemos perdonar. ¿Conoce Dios de
nuestros dolores que hacen difícil perdonar ? ¿Por qué nosotros debemos perdonar a personas malas que no tienen un buen corazon como
nosotros? El perdonar significa aprobar el pecado? ¿Por qué es importante perdonar? No perdonar es un mixteo de emociones. Un espiritu que no perdona inspira guerra, traumatiza las naciones enteras, destruye matrimonios, divide familias, arruina la amisatad, divide Iglesias,
y envenena a las comunidades. Es natural que una persona se enoje
cuando algo va mal pero el problema llega cuando crece de enojo a
resentimiento, de amargura a hostilidad. El resentimiento como constante y profunda ira sembrada se convierte en toxico y corroe nuestro
sistema. Antes de que te des cuenta, comienza a reproducirse la depresión, tristeza y insensibilidad. Cuando esto pasa la persona se convierte gradualmente en aislado y deprimido y le resulta difícil relacionarse
con los demas en el nivel de su negatividad. El daño que puede hacer
un estado emocional crónico a nuestra salud es muy enorme. Según
algunos psicólogos, el perdón es bueno para el corazón, y trae baja
frecuencia cardíaca, la presión arterial y alivia el estrés

LISTEN AND FOLLOW
“This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.” And listen they did.
From that moment on, Peter, James, and John were ardent followers,
forsaking everything to follow in their Master’s footsteps. Like the
psalmist crying, “O Lord, I am your servant,” the three disciples committed themselves to lives of incredible hardship and indescribable
joy. After that day on the mountain, they never again wavered in their
chosen vocation.
Though our tests may not be as severe as Abraham’s and our
peak experiences not as dramatic as the Transfiguration, we all face
the daily challenges of walking “before the Lord in the land of the
living.” As we follow our varied calls to love and serve, let’s be comforted by Paul’s reminder to the Romans: “If God is for us, who can be
against us?”

“Este es mi Hijo amado; escúchenlo”. Y sí que lo escucharon.
Desde ese momento, Pedro, Santiago y Juan fueron sus ardientes
seguidores, desechándolo todo para seguir las huellas del Maestro. Tal
como proclama el salmista, “Señor, he aquí tu servidor”, los tres discípulos se comprometieron a vidas de increíbles penurias e indescriptible gozo. Después de ese día en la montaña, nunca más dudaron de la
vocación escogida.
Aunque nuestras pruebas no sean tan severas como la de
Abraham, ni nuestros momentos sublimes tan dramáticos como la
Transfiguración, todos confrontamos los retos cotidianos de caminar
“en presencia del Señor en el país de la vida”. Mientras seguimos
nuestros diversos llamados a amar y servir, seamos confortados por lo
que Pablo les recuerda a los romanos: “Si Dios está a nuestro favor,
¿quién estará en contra nuestra?”

Know, dear brothers and sisters, that as we have rejoiced at the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ, so by God’s mercy we announce to you
also the joy of his Resurrection, who is our Savior.

On the 18th day of February will fall Ash Wednesday, and the
beginning of the fast of the most sacred Lenten season.

On the 5th day of April, you will celebrate with joy Easter Day,
the Paschal feast of our Lord Jesus Christ.
•
On the 14th day of May will be the Ascension of our Lord Jesus
Christ.
•
On the 24th day of May, the feast of Pentecost.
•
On the 7th day of June, the feast of the Most Holy Body and
Blood of Christ.
•
On the 29th day of November, the First Sunday of Advent of our
Lord Jesus Christ, to whom is honor and glory for ever and ever.
