Superintendent
Greetings!
Excitement is building as we prepare to welcome back our students and staff and meet
our newest learners. Our team has spent many hours during the summer months
preparing for their return, and we are confident our students will greatly benefit from
the many programs and opportunities currently in place for them.
As a District, we are rebounding from an exceptional school year where McCaskey
saluted the largest number of graduates in recent history (over 700!); the High School
Campus was ranked nationally by the Washington Post as one of “America’s Most
Challenging High Schools – based on academics; nearly 1,100 college-level tests were
given at McCaskey last spring; and our District was listed as a “Best Community for
Music Education” four years in a row!
In addition, several of our educators received outstanding recognitions including
Teacher of the Year, our business office received an award for financial transparency, and
our special education department earned six commendations from the State Bureau of
Special Education. Although this is just a few examples of our great achievements, they
provide a solid foundation to build upon this year.
We always welcome the continued support and interest of our stakeholders. You play a
significant role in the success of our students. Together We Can!

¡Saludos!
La emoción se agranda mientras nos preparamos para darle la bienvenida a
nuestros estudiantes y personal y conocer a nuestros nuevos aprendices. Nuestro
equipo ha pasado muchas horas durante los meses de verano preparándose para su
regreso, y estamos seguros que nuestros estudiantes se beneficiaran muchísimo de
los muchos programas y oportunidades planificados para ellos.
Como Distrito, nos estamos recuperando de un excelente año escolar donde en
McCaskey se homenajearon el más grande número de graduantes de su historia
(¡más de 700!); ¡el Campos de Escuela Superior fue categorizado nacionalmente por
el "Washington Post" como uno de las “Escuelas Superior Más Competitivas de
América"—basado en académicos; cerca de 1,100 exámenes a nivel universitario se
llevaron a cabo en McCaskey en la primevera pasada; y nuestro Distrito fue
enlistado como el “Mejor de la Comunidad en Educación de Música” por cuatro
años consecutivos!
Además, muchos de nuestros educadores recibieron reconocimientos incluyendo el
maestro del año, nuestra oficina recibió el reconocimiento por transparencia en
finanzas, y nuestro departamento de educación especial obtuvo seis elogios de la
Oficina del Estado de Educación Especial. Aunque estos son algunos de los
ejemplos de nuestros grandes logros, ellos ofrecen una fundación sólida para seguir
construyendo este año.

WiFi for all students!

A high priority for our Board of School
Directors and District administration is for
students to have access to online learning
through a 1:1 (student/device) initiative. Our IT
Department has been working to make this a
reality by incorporating wireless access points in
each of our buildings. Over the next few months,
our six remaining schools (King, Price, Lincoln,
Reynolds, Wheatland, and the McCaskey Campus)
will be equipped with wireless connectivity. Ultimately,
electronic devices will be incorporated into every
day classroom instruction to provide students
with the best and most practical learning environment possible.

Meet our Newest Principal
The District welcomes Mr. Don Trost, who will
begin his 20th year in education as the new
Wheatland Middle School Principal. Mr. Trost
most recently served as an assistant principal and
principal of New Hope Charter School in York
City. Prior to that he was a teacher in Maryland
and principal for almost 15 years. He looks forward
to working with the families, staff and teachers at
WMS. His goal is to create a climate where students
love their school and teachers are proud and are
recognized for the work they do every day.

Mr. Trost is an avid sports enthusiast and enjoys fishing with his son Drew (8).
Both his wife Kim and daughter Rylie (13) are voracious readers and are rarely seen
without a book. Their family enjoys spending time together in Long Beach Island,
New Jersey.
Please note: At the time of print, the hiring of the new Principals for Buchanan and
Wickersham Elementary Schools was not finalized.

El Distrito le da la bienvenidad al Sr. Don Trost, quien comenzará su 20mo año en
educación como el nuevo Principal en la Escuela Media Wheatland. El Sr. Trost
recientemente fue el asistente de principal y principal de la Escuela Charter New
Hope en la Ciudad de York. Anteriormente él fue maestro en Maryland y principal
por casi 15 años. Él está ansioso de trabajar con las familias, personal y maestros
de WMS. Su meta es crear un ambiente donde los estudiantes quieran a su escuela
