Director’s Message
Have you stopped by our office lately? There have been some amazing
changes! Walls and doors have been moved and we are now better able to
accommodate classes and meetings! Stop by if you have a moment.
Recreation Information
Mini Parks Action Plan
We are excited to be partnering with our very energetic and capable
Director of Public Works, Mary Grace Houlihan. Mary Grace has
implemented the planning process for our Mini Parks Action Plan. This
plan will help us find areas which might need improvement in each of
our mini parks in Larkspur. We are actively engaging neighborhoods and asking for feedback
and assistance. Please feel free to email me at [email protected]
Bicycle/Pedestrian Master Plan
The Larkspur Bicycle/Pedestrian Master Plan is also in the planning stages. There have already
been several meetings held and you may visit
http://www.ci.larkspur.ca.us/index.aspx?NID=557 to see all of the good work being done.
Community Garden
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank our volunteer Community Garden Coordinators:
Stephen Conner, who oversees the operations for the entire garden, Paul Da Silva, Katherine
Jones, Nancy Martling, Betsy McGee and Jay Shirley. These folks are responsible for the
administration and care of our organic garden and their efforts are very much appreciated by
our department. If we don’t have quality volunteers like these, we don’t function. Thank you!
Very best regards,
Dick Whitley

standing in the center of West Baltimore Ave. at its intersection with

Guide: Larkspur’s Baltimore Park neighborhood contains almost
40 species of noteworthy trees; all will be in spring leaf. A few are
survivors more than 200 years old, and others were planted within
historic yards nearly a century ago. Join tree expert Katherine Jones
for a one-hour tour that will reveal and identify some special trees in
plain view that might otherwise escape your notice. She will explain
their features and provide some memorable anecdotes. For more

Larkspur’s Historic Downtown
11
When: Saturday, April 4, 2015, at 10:00 AM-12:00PM
Where: Meet on the Stairs of City Hall
Guide: Larkspur’s downtown was developed in the late 1880s
by about a dozen families who settled here and founded small
businesses. Within a decade the dirt roads and wooden railroad
station had been joined by a variety of homes, services and
shops. Many of those original buildings remain in place, only
slightly altered after 120 years of adaptation to a changing
world. Richard Cunningham will guide walkers on a two-hour
tour through the Downtown that he researched and explained
in the 2010 book Larkspur Past and Present. For more
information, call him at 924-6976.
